CFS Alert

A member of the Port Inspection Dive Team observes as another member guides the removal of an ice block from a freshly cut dive site on the Dumbbell Bay sea ice during Operation NUNALIVUT 10.

Operation NUNALIVUT 10 is one of three joint operations conducted annually by the Canadian Forces in Canada’s North. It employs the unique capabilities of the Canadian Rangers in support of Joint Task Force North (JTFN) operations in the extreme environment of the high Artic. The operation ran from 6-30 April 2010 out of Alert, Canada’s most Northerly permanently inhabited location.

The Port Inspection Dive Team prepares a dive site on the sea ice in Dumbbell Bay during Operation NUNALIVUT 10. This operation marks the longest sustained Canadian Forces diving operation in the high Artic in history to date. During the three-week dive operation from 6 to 26 April 2010, the team estimates they will have conducted 75 dives totaling more than 50 hours of diving under the ice.

SFC Alert
