These flowers do not always bloom but when they do they are so elegant.

I found out that if you touch a Calla lily, the plant releases a microscopic needle like crystals, that can cause immediate burning, pain and irritation. Ouch! This photo was taken at the Bellagio Botanical Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.

From our garden

I bought the Calla Lilly bulbs from the garden center to try out to grow my own and I was happy with the outcome. If I decided to do it again, I think I have to plant the bulbs before the beginning of Summer or late Fall. I'm not an expert in gardening but as the saying goes "we learn from our experience." :)

NO MULTIPLE INVITATIONS PLEASE Thank you!

Calla Lilies and the long white bridge reflecting in the water in the Magnolia Plantation Gardens. Magnolia Gardens are unlike most of America's gardens, which are formal and seek to control nature, Magnolia cooperates with nature to create a tranquil landscape like Eden where humanity and nature are in harmony. "Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher" - William Wordsworth.

This year my pond gave me 19 Calla Lilies, the best show in over 12 years. They looked lovely for a couple of weeks and I couldn't resist a few memory shots.

Many thanks for your kind comments

Just a closeup of a Calla lily after the rain. Eighteen images were combined in Helicon Focus to get this much depth of field at this magnification.

I bought a potted calla lily plant, so I will probably be posting photos of it over the next several days.

A very unusual flower of my otherwise very smooth and rounded Callas. It's also my first attempt of focus stacking. Didn't quite catch all areas that needed to be sharp.

I feel quite disconnected without my Flickr buddies! I've even lowered my subscription to the free one and have deleted hundreds of them to keep within the number allowed. Very strange...! But this too shall pass... we're just here for a season. Greetings and my best to you all.

Taken on the California west coast on March of 2018. It‘s hard to know the time of Calla Lily bloom season even I did a lot of home work. It was end of bloom season when I got there by plane from center of North America. It took me quite some time to find the location,

Happy New Year, my dear Flickr friends!

A beautiful white Calla Lily, captured in Berkeley, California. I came across her walking up in the hills a wonderful morning late in January.

Calla lilies are said to come from the ancient god Hera, the wife of Zeus. In the story, Zeus brought Hercules to nurse from his wife while she was sleeping. He wanted his son to have the strength of the gods. Hera awoke and pushed the baby away from her. Drops of milk flew across the sky creating the milky way and everywhere they landed on earth, calla lilies bloomed. The Marin Headlands is a hilly peninsula at the southernmost end of Marin County, California, United States, located just north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge, which connects the two counties and peninsulas. The Marin Headlands were home to the Native American Coastal Miwok tribe, who moved between the bay side of the peninsula and the ocean side seasonally, for thousands of years. The entire area is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The Headlands are famous for their views of the Bay Area, especially of the Golden Gate Bridge. In the waters surrounding the Headlands, harbor seals can be found year-round, gray whales can be seen in the spring and fall, and seabirds such as common murres and surf scoters swim within sight of shore.

Calla Lily season will be ending soon
