Here is where the little Calla quilt is at the moment. LOTS still to do but at least the basics are done - for the moment!

Winter is in full swing here on Long Island, so I decided to stay indoors and try my hand at some flower photography.
Flowers are not really my strong suit, but the cold weather is offering me a perfect opportunity to get in some practice. The first in this set is a calla lily that was sporting some beautiful curves, colors and textures. I tired to keep it simple, and just focus on the flower's best attributes.

"Curvy Calla" is a non-HDR image that was processed using a combination of ACR, Photoshop and various Topaz Labs Plugins (Adjust, AI Clear, Denoise, Glow, and Impression).

This calla lily in the Madeira botanic gardens caught my eye as it basked in the sunshine while the background was more in shadow.
Calla Lilies near Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands, a hilly peninsula at the southernmost end of Marin County, California, United States, located just north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge, which connects the two counties and peninsulas. The Marin Headlands were home to the Native American Coastal Miwok tribe, who moved between the bay side of the peninsula and the ocean side seasonally, for thousands of years. The entire area is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The Headlands are famous for their views of the Bay Area, especially of the Golden Gate Bridge. In the waters surrounding the Headlands, harbor seals can be found year-round, gray whales can be seen in the spring and fall, and seabirds such as common murres and surf scoters swim within sight of shore.
I love Calla Lilies! The curves call out, and along with the lines, draw me in. This is from the archives and I recently came across it and kept thinking about it. When that happens I have to post!

According to Wikipedia a Calla is “…is very poisonous when fresh due to its high oxalic acid content, but the rhizome … is edible after drying, grinding, leaching and boiling…”
Well, for me it is just a beautiful flower, and I’d rather have it on the table than on the plate!
Both the backlighting and black & white processing helped to reveal the delicate details of this flower…
