Calla Lilies are native to South Africa. There are seven species which grow in colors of white, yellow, and pink.
Hybridizers have created the summer blooming colored callas, which are sometimes Mini Callas, although they grow from 8 to 30 inches tall and the flower diameter can be from 1/2 to 3-1/2 inches. Callas come in almost every color- except blue!
Calla Bar Emmon stood in the hall of kings looking around to each and every statue. There were many that graced the hall. She was simply awestruck by it all.
Moving around towards where the Crownlands consulate began, she looked towards the door of her brother, aunt, and uncle. The only family she really had any more in King's Landing.
Taking a sharp breath in she contemplated going back home and just shook her head. She could not do that to their father. His house needed a beautiful example of what a Bar Emmon should be. That seemed to be her job at this point.
With the Queen in seclusion and no word from her Calla was left with little to tend to. Her Grace had sealed off part of the keep and had not allowed anyone in or out. She was worried about Her Grace and each day Calla tried to see her. Each day she was turned away.
Sad the little swordfish would make her way back to her room and plan to try again the following day, and the next, and the next, and so on until something gave in.

We've had some amazing Calla Lilies growing in the south west corner this year! This is the last shot in the series taken a few weeks back.

Calla lilies are a beautiful addition to any garden, but you can also grow them indoors as potted plants. People love these perennial plants because the waxy and trumpet-shaped flowers come in a range of colors, because the blooms last for weeks, and because they're easy to maintain. However, it’s best to grow calla lilies from bulbs, because sprouting seeds can take a long time. Calla lilies are native to South Africa and are tropical plants, so while you can keep them outdoors in the summer, you must take steps to prepare them properly for winter in cooler climates.

I've tried several times to get a photo of my Calla Lilies, but never been happy with the shape or the colours. Then in the special light straight after a heavy rain shower, I saw the golden spathe almost glowing in invitation.
Below is one of the flies that accepted the invitation.

Looking up again at some of my calla lilies. This photo is saying "Good Morning" to Caroline on the other side of the world.
I see droplets on my callas often in the morning but none today because of some wind. It took many tries with a spray bottle to catch a drop that worked.

In fact, there are several Calla Lily Flowers scenes in the San Francisco, as well as in the North of Golden Gate Bridge. Here is the one I took it last year
While waiting for this year's flowers to unfurl, I was seized with a desire to paint some callas. Painting solves the 'noisy backdrop' problem! And the flowers are lovely to paint.
This dark version is in the early stages of being painted [plus, I played with it].
The finished version is the real color.
A 'volunteer' wild calla (Calla plaustris) in my small pond.
I transplanted a wild calla lily here maybe 20 years ago and it survived for two years, then I never saw it again.
Somehow, some way... there is a new calla lily in my pond, on exactly the opposite side.

Calla lilies are said to come from the ancient god Hera, the wife of Zeus. In the story, Zeus brought Hercules to nurse from his wife while she was sleeping. He wanted his son to have the strength of the gods. Hera awoke and pushed the baby away from her. Drops of milk flew across the sky creating the milky way and everywhere they landed on earth, calla lilies bloomed.
