Cuba has been heavily deforested. Colonials reduced the size of the forest from 65% to just 15% of the island. The Cubans are working towards reforestation with a goal to increasing this figure to 25%. Here we are at our lunch stop among teak and almond trees. I shouldn't be looking so happy as I'm leaning against a torture instrument used on former slaves.

Note: We almost didn't stop in here, but I am glad we did. This isn't a tourist trap like other places but an honest to goodness cheese shop. I only did a quick walk through and picked up a few things, but the prices were very reasonable, and the selection was very impressive.
