There had been a tip that grassquits were just off the road. We dashed through mud and mosquitos to find only Yellow Grassquits. Alas on our way back William Suarez doggedly hunted down a pair of Cuban Grassquits.

In his book 'My Hidden Life as a Revolutionary in Cuba' (1988) José Luis Llovio-Menéndez wrote "Against all odds the “greatest park in Latin America” [Parque Lenin - 670 hectares] was completed"..."an ostentatious display that mocked their [Cubans] real needs". Commissioned by Celia Sánchez, a Cuban revolutionary and close friend of Fidel Castro, the guidebooks will tell you the park was neglected after the fall of the Soviet Union, but digging deeper into the archives suggests that the ostentatious ampitheatres, cinemas, lakes and Chinese-imported equipment were a failure long before then.
