The Cuban hutia, also known as Desmarest's hutia, is a rodent endemic to Cuba (surprise !). It is quite large for a rodent with a body length of about 31-60 cm (12–24 in).
This is a photo from my last visit to our local zoo. It was taken through glass.
This Cuban Parakeet, Psittacara euops, was in a flock feeding in the canopy of some low trees with lance shaped yellow or green leaves where they blended in well. The parakeets are Cuban endemics considered endangered due to habitat loss and the pet trade, but they are fairly common in a few areas including the Zapata Swamp region where we saw them.

Ferrocarriles de Cuba (FCC) locomotive 52420 (Montreal Locomotive Works 1975) passes Aguacate with a westbound freight.
A Cuban Tree Frog sleeps in a philodendron during the day. Cuban Tree Frogs are an invasive species in Florida and prey upon native frogs. I've read that you are supposed to capture them and place them in the freezer for a few hours to cause them a humane death. I don't have the heart to do that. Should I? They have replaced all the native, beautiful green treefrogs, but they are abundant in my neighborhood and I don't think I could make much of a dent in their population.
Some of the many classic cars from the 1950's that are still on the roads in Cuba.
FYI- This is the car from the Driver Portraits.
Cuban refugee portrait she was at a temporary shelter in La Cruz, Costa Rica, near the border with Nicaragua, in December.
Thanks for taking the time to view this image. For more of my photography please check out my website.
My wife and I just returned from another great vacation in Cuba.
I'm rarely at the resort, but instead I head out by foot or motor-scooter or car to see and be around the regular Cuban towns, and people. (yes, I did find a few birds to photograph as well!).
I enjoyed watching these lovely young children, just being children....:)
Thanks for looking, etc.

And the word, the island, the people, the archipelago we call Cuba became the hot topic of the planet for a few months. Experts about the Cuba subject are everywhere, we had received the visit from actors, models, artists, businessmen, comedians, experts in trade, travel and architecture.
Apparently everyone has opinions about our way of saying, dress, talk, some treat you with sympathy, others just come to his own, in search of something to be shared on this island that has been here for many years, but before they dared to visit, much less to comment.
Today Wednesday March 4 must be going through TBS an special program about Cuba, "the first late night show" on the island, a refreshing and joyful vision of Cuba, earrings few key chain version of Obrien's on Havana, how many will form their opinions after seeing the show, which reflects the vision of one man and the team that assisted him during those days in Havana.
How many will remain with arms stretched and open eyes, not to give, not for pity, but to collaborate with respect to dialogue with restraint, to treat as equal to islanders which do not have access to world ¨tech¨y ¨modern¨ outside its borders and not be considered as second-class citizens.
How many will remain pending for this piece of land on the planet, when fashion Cuba pass.
