Trinidad is a UNESCO World Heritage site and we visited it a few years ago. It is quite poor but the people are very friendly.

A recent business trip to Cuba gave me the opportunity to witness the many ongoing changes since I first saw this country in 2009. Unchanged, however, are all the vintage cars, although there seem to more than ever of them.

I started travelling internationally right after finishing college when I took a teaching position in Kuwait. Over the decades of my career, my partner and I have continued to work in or explore different parts of the world. More recently, since taking early retirement, we manage to spend around five months away during Canadian winters.
I kept track of all the places with a blogged list. In 2018, I decided it would be useful to find a single, personal image to represent each country I've visited. I have put these into a single Flickr Album. A photograph may occasionally be updated if we have a return visit.
These are organized alphabetically. You should be able to go forward or background from the image's main page where you can also see the names, and dates. In most cases the EXE date is correct. Some images may have been scanned and dates approximated.
For all practical purposes, the Keokuk F-Units might as well have been embargoed, as they cross through Cuba one final time on their way to westward towards La Harpe.
The slow track speed allowed me to get ahead of the train one more time. I opted for the final crossing in town, Highway 97/1st St., as it allowed me enough time to get ahead of the train with roughly a minute or two to spare. Behind me was the most interesting single-tower grain elevator I've ever seen. One guy (Chris Guss, I think) was flying a drone behind the elevator, and it turned out to be one of the best drone shots I've ever seen.
The Cuban Crow is a West Indian endemic. It is large and has a wide range of calls including some that sound like those of parrots. There were a number of them at the resort where we stayed in Playa Larga.

February was an incredible month this year! I was thrilled to lead my first photography tour in Cuba! 🇨🇺
As I prepare for the second edition starting next January, I decided to revisit some photos that had been sitting untouched on my hard drive all year. Here’s one that stood out to me—a favorite from Santiago de Cuba, featuring an old friend.
If you’d like to learn how to capture photographs like this, I invite you to join the 2026 edition, as the 2025 edition is already sold out.
