While out capturing my "Hotel California" image for the 365-2013 daily challenge, I walked down the block to check out this old vacant hardware store. I've been trying for ages to photograph it, but there are always cars parked in front. Today I was excited to see that it was only partially obscured... this is only about half of the facade. I had a good exercise in using the totally cool "Content Aware" Fill tool in CS6, as I removed all of the power lines, the "for sale" sign and a parking meter ! (original image below).
Take a look at the largest images to see the wonderful texture and all of the cracks in the bricks. This building survived the big 1906 earthquake, the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and hundreds of smaller ones over the years. It has been empty for a long time, and I hope that it is not eventually demolished, but if someone doesn't renovate soon, it may just fall over!
Holmquist Hardware at Stambaugh and Main Street in Redwood City, California, was established over a century ago (in 1895) by Rudolph Carl Holmquist (1872-1952). Holmquist operated the store for 45 years before retiring and turning the business over to his son, H. E. ("Rowdy") Holmquist in 1940 (Rowdy, a former member of the City Council). The building has been vacant for some years, ever since a fire destroyed much of its interior in 1954.

As you all know we sprung a surprise on Mike Ridley on July 15th for his 50th down at Whitburn. This is my first shot taken that morning and the first shot ive tinkered with on the Mac Book Pro. Im slowly getting to grip with it but have to google stuff every 2 minutes :/ I hadnt revisisted my shots from that morning after uploading one just after the event and when opening Adobe Bridge CS6 for the first time this one was sitting there but it was very dark as i had bracketed a few shots. After a tickle in ACR and PS its came out canny. Not as good as Mark Southgates by a long stretch, someone whos shots im would love to emulate one day :)
On another note ive just uploaded this straight from the desktop without having to use the Flickr Uploader or anything :) I think its a Mountain Lion OSX update :D

I edited this photo with the new photoshop CS6 preview,
I must say I am rather pleased with the new features and look of photoshop.
first thing you see is the new interface (don't worry it's still the same, just with a more aperture/Lightroom look)
then, the new bur effects are great, easy to modify and create exactly what you want,
a big + here for adobe as it was betting annoying to have 10 layers just to get the blur you needed...
Then, the new way of saving file is great, you can finally keep working while the file saves,
remember all those 1gb+ file that need 1min to save... so much better
new better way to handle mask layers
I could just keep talking,
but, why not trying it out for yourself -it's free- labs.adobe.com/downloads/photoshopcs6.html
Please leave comments and questions about the new photoshop :)

A picture of my Airens 7 hp snowblower, that has been used quite a bit this winter, here in Connecticut. I've been using it a lot, especially this February, with all the snow storms we've had. We are supposed to get possibly another 6 inches tonight. I've got the machine apart in our garage. I'm trying to fix the self propel sprocket, which some of the teeth are worn down pretty badly.
