"Colors of Lake Michigan Abstract Diptych" by Patti Deters. Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes, is renowned for its stunning scenery along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. However, the colors of the water are just as stunning and beautiful where the sunlight penetrates the water, creating mesmerizing patterns of light and shadow on the lake's surface. Blue-green hues which vary in intensity and shade depending on several factors such as weather conditions, time of day, water clarity, and algae blooms. During a clear, sunny day the lake often appears a brilliant and inviting turquoise, with shades ranging from a pale, almost translucent, blue near the shore to a deeper, more vibrant teal further out. The color is influenced by the depth of the lake, the reflection of sunlight by the water, as well as minerals and algae. In some areas, especially where the water is shallow and the lake bottom is sandy, the water can take on a striking emerald or aquamarine hue. This enchanting coloration is particularly noticeable in bays and coves such as in these abstract photographs captured near Miner's Castle along the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Each of the two images in this diptych collage are also available individually at the links below. Not long into our hike, we came across a wetland - a mucky system of stick and earth dams, conspicuously created by beavers at some point, probably long ago.
Sections of bridge and boardwalk, kept us out of the wettest parts of the trail, and below one of the bridges, along the bank, we came across an extended family of newts.

I also could have titled this image "stairway to heaven". What you can see here is the only entry point of the Lake Sameranger (Tyrol, Austria). And this lake can really be called "heaven" for divers. Stunning transparency of the water, a mystic mood and some sights... And here the journey begins...

The Sunken Cemetery Memorial on Camigium Island, Philippines.
The Sunken Cemetery of Camiguin Island marks the swept remains of the island’s rested locals. Driven underwater when Mt. Vulcan Daan erupted in 1870’s, the large cross has served the town's people, as well as the tourists, a scenic spot to memorialize the departed's buried there.
We went to the beach to find colored shells
the kind that when placed to our ears
make the sound of the ocean appear,
and gathered rocks that we never would find
in the places we walked,
for most of the time.
We went to the beach and all that, we did find
and the smell of the salt refreshed our tired minds.
I'll never forget the laughter and sounds
and the freedom to run,
on that wet sandy ground.
We went to the beach my family and I
and there we were one,
with the ocean, the beach, and the sky.

Los Roques, Venezuela
The Los Roques islands are a federal dependency of Venezuela, consisting of about 350 islands, cays or islets. The archipelago is an atoll located 80 miles (128 km) directly north of the port of La Guaira, and is a 40-minute flight from Caracas. Being almost an untouched coral reef, it attracts many visitors, especially from Europe, some of which come in their own yachts and anchor in the inner, protected shallow waters. However, development and tourism are controlled.
Because of the wide variety of seabirds and rich aquatic life, the Venezuelan government declared Los Roques a National Park in 1972.
It is scarcely populated, having about 1,500 permanent inhabitants; however it receives approximately 70,000 visitors a year, many of them day-visitors who come from Caracas and the mainland. The most important island is El Gran Roque ("the big rock"). It is the only populated island in the group and has an airport suitable for small or STOL aircraft, Los Roques Airport, with freshly repaved RWY 07/25 (1000 x 26 meters). The airport is controlled from the Maiquetía airport on the mainland. Other important islands are Francisqui, Nordisqui, Madrisqui and Crasqui.
Activities include fishing (bonefish, barracuda, tarpon, jack (Carangidae) and Spanish mackerel), birding, snorkling, diving, kite-surfing and there is a sea turtle research center located on El Gran Roque. Accommodations include Pez Raton Lodge, a property primarily used to host fishing guests, and Posada Mediterraneo, a 5-room inn which accommodates non-fishing guests.

Update (9/24/2015) - I recently saw a post on Reddit about a photo that NASA took of Great Exuma Island in the Bahamas. Their photo looked really similar to this one, so it looks like my mystery location is actually the Bahamas -- pretty excited to know where this beautiful place is!
