I could always tell this Great Grey Owl from the others because of his facial expression which was really just the feather work around the mouth and not a frown at all :-) From Winters' past....

A lot of Jordanathrix nr. superba, some Dicyrtoma fusca, Dicyrtomina ornata, one Orchesella cincta and a few others have been seen there...

I could spend everyday in the Bison Range. This was my first (two) visits since the land was restored to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes on the Blackfeet Reservation. It had been under the Federal Fish and Wildlife Service (the people who run the National Wildlife Refuges).

There was really no issue with *how* it was run under the federal government. The issue was that it should never have been federal at all, but simply part of the reservation (we're talking legally here, not morally).

Now, to the casual visitor, there's very little outward difference. The Flathead National flag flies above the visitor center. The pamphlets focus upon *all* of the history of the area - both tribal and white. The names of many of the hills and streams are in both English and Salish.

As to where the bison herds are, that was always dependent upon the bison. Some days you could drive the loop and see only one or two. Other times, you'd see dozens all over. There are also antelope, elk, coyotes, and any number of birds (including magpie!).

If you're traveling though Montana, you owe it to yourself to spend a couple of hours exploring the Bison Range.

It is amazing to watch these little creatures living on the cliffs so close to the edge . they are extremely social and it is wonderful to watch their interactions with each other . Could never get enough of the puffins !

I could not resist posting this photo of a Robber Crab, also known properly as Coconut Crab. Christmas Island has the largest protected population of these giant crustaceans, and they are just magnificent. As much as the island is most famous for its red crabs, robber crabs were my absolute favourites.

They feed mostly on fleshy fruits, nuts, seeds, but they will eat other organic matter if they can get their claws on it. Anything left unattended on the ground is a potential source of food, which they will investigate and often carry away – thereby getting the alternative name of "robber crab".

Coming off the loop track and onto the main so they could back into the siding and then ultimately into the upper yard at Cresson.

Sunrise at Tannery Park. Though downtown Toronto is over 50km away, I could still see the Toronto CN tower with sun rising from another side of the lake. I wanted to capture the icicles hanging on the pier, only this side the lighthouse and icicles could be seen because the waves hitting the pier all the time. But I had to miss the Toronto skyline on the opposite side… Two hours in the early morning was long enough to freeze the body, after photo session, walking along the pier to lighthouse was becoming a bit difficult, I needed a warm Coffee to survive 😉

Unfortunately i could not get the whole reflection onto the photo, because right under the bottom of this photo, there's the balustrade of the bridge from which i was shooting this. And by the way, this is nearly the same place as in "the blue hour", just needed to turn around
