The winter and the cold wave came to Switzerland.

With this picture I did not make it easy for me. At first I really could not decide which photo to put on flickr. I wrestled with myself, because I would like to present the most beautiful photo for my friends here. Secondly, the picture was made under very difficult external conditions, because it was really "bitterly cold". I could barely touch my hands after photographing and yet I wanted to get a nice photo of these beautiful ice crystals. I succeeded, more or less, because the background was not ideal for that. In addition, my faithful friend Roco had to wait for me and there I no longer want to start one try after another. This time I did not want to make any compromises with the warm colors of the picture, because the cold should be very touchable. I believe this has succeeded with this picture. I am fascinated by this "little work of art". Each little detail is a miracle of creation, because it was shaped by the elements of nature and radiates its brilliance as long as this nature allows.

I am grateful for these little things without which life would not be so beautiful and interesting.

The winter has caught up with me too, for I am terribly cold. Nevertheless, or just because of this, I am looking forward to every single word from you. I am not generally that successful at bird photography even when I have consciously gone out to see birds. This shot of the chaffinch was pure luck. Mary and I were on a walk recently I had taken a shot or two of some wild flowers . I spotted the bird and took a couple of shots without changing settings not really expecting anything reasonable. In fact I am quite pleased with this one I know it could be sharper but for a grab shot its not too bad . It is very heavily cropped

In the end I could not choose one out

Svínafellsjökull is one of the many crawling glaciers out of the main glacier Vatnajökull.

The crawling glaciers carry down the weight of ice the area can hold in place. In the worming climate of the last decades all crawling glaciers get shorter and thinner. Even the main shield of ice is getting thinner (and therefore the crawling glaciers have less material to move down from the main, adding still to them being shorter and thinner)

Some few of the crawling glaciers come from very flat area of Vatnajökull. In such areas the glacier can collect ice over a period and then the crawling glacier leaps - runs down with much more energy than normal - for some weeks until some kind of ballange is reached again.

I could not resist posting one more photo of a Female Goldfinch gathering fluff for her nest. The females are still hard at work even though it seems they have been doing it for weeks. They really must be creating the deluxe version of their nests this year :)
