This view is looking north along Corporation Street at the junction with Market Street.

The top photo shows the devastation inflicted on this part of Manchester city centre when the IRA detonated a bomb on 15th June 1996.

The bottom photo shows the area has since been extensively redeveloped.

Rotherham Corporation 47 is rounding a bend on the trolleybus circuit at Sandtoft. It is a tri-axle Daimler CTE6 which was new in 1950, fitted with single-deck centre-entrance bodywork by East Lancs (Bridlington). In 1956 the single-deck bodywork was removed and replaced by new double-deck rear-entrance bodywork by Roe. In this form the trolleybus has been preserved.

This was a shuttle service running between the station and the castle.

Glasgow Corporation 1292 dates from 1948, a representative of the Cunarder series of ‘caurs’ built at the Coplawhill works. The final trams were built there in 1952, but these were a reversion to an earlier design, the Coronations of 1937.

My earliest pix of 1292 go back to 1972, at its Coplawhill birthplace, which had been transformed as the Glasgow Transport Museum. Complete with a splendid period advert, 1292 now enjoys pride of place at the Glasgow Riverside Museum.

New to Bournemouth Corporation Transport, this batch of well maintained and fairly youthful PD3as had been eagerly snapped up by the Island's transport authority. I always thought that these and similar MCW products looked incredibly tall, a feature accentuated by their tapered front end. For their new role, the batch were re-registered with appropriate IoM numbers, here LMN 81 leaves the depot adjacent to the steam railway station in Douglas. Shame the cars obscured the Scammel tractor unit!

Today (12/05/2024) was the 61st Historic Commercial Vehicles Society (HCVS) London to Brighton road run, although this year the start was moved to Brooklands Museum near Weybridge. This meant a new route for the first half of the run so it was off to Mickleham, just north of Dorking on the A24, to witness the spectacle.

It was a fantastic spot as not only did we see the 100+ HCVS entries drive past, stacks of classic cars, motorbikes, cyclists and walkers were all out doing their thing. A thoroughly enjoyable morning!!

Seen after being incorporated into the SELNEC fleet and renumbered 6411.This was the last traditional half cab bus built and was totally messed up when they painted it in that horrible orange and cream scheme.New in November 1969 the bus is a Leyland Titan PD3/14 with East Lancs H41/32F coachwork.

A former Stockport Leyland Tiger was in action at Winkleigh this weekend. It was being driven enthusiastically all day. It is seen here returning at the end of the day to be parked up. It is restored in an Irish Railway Company livery.

Due to vehicle shortages in 1975 mainly down to the unreliability of the current choice of vehicles at that time London Transport had to resort to hiring in buses.

Preserved Oldham Corporation Transport 494 (NBU494) stands outside the Greater Manchester Museum of Transport. It is a 1957 Leyland PD2/20 and carries bodywork by Charles H. Roe of Leeds - a supremely handsome combination. Oldham’s municipal bus operations were one of 11 that were subsumed into the South East Lancashire & North East Cheshire Passenger Transport Authority (SELNEC PTE) in October 1969. With the addition of the Wigan Corporation bus operations in 1974, SELNEC morphed into the Greater Manchester PTE.
