This is a political work. It seems to me that not only in the USA, where I live, but throughout the world we seem to be in an impasse and are not moving forward at all. The whole world should be working towards peace, love, tolerance, respect and friendship. This does not seem to be happening, we continue with these endless wars that resolve NOTHING!!! I implore all of mankind to join me in trying to get closer together, enjoy our differences and live in unity. We do not need the same beliefs or traditions but we do need to have unified values as to less greed, respect, understanding and how we treat one another.

This image came about because of compromise. Well, we were at a loose end late Friday morning and we didn't have plans.

The forecast earlier in the week had predicted rain for Friday so we planned on doing a few bits around the house. However, we woke up to find sun so we checked the forecast again and it said cloudy with outbreaks of sun so we jumped in the car and headed for Eryri (Snowdonia).

High winds meant we were to stay off mountain summits so a low-level walk was required and this is where the compromise came in. I thought an afternoon and sunset in Harlech would be good (and we always seem to have a nice sunset when in Harlech) while Becky thought a walk around Porthmadog and Borth y Gest may be better. Well in the middle of those two locations is the one in the image: Llandecwyn.

Llandecwyn has this beautiful old church and is surrounded by mountains and if you have a long enough lens you can see Harlech Castle sitting proudly on the horizon.

The temple site was uncovered in 1954 during excavation work for the construction of Bucklersbury House, As a compromise between redesigning the new building and abandoning the archaeological site, the ruin was dismantled and moved 100 metres to Temple Court, Queen Victoria Street, where in 1962 the foundations were reassembled at street level for an open-air public display. The reconstruction was not accurate and drew criticism for the

The Temple of Mithraeum was moved to its original location, following the demolition of Bucklersbury House and four other buildings in the block for the planned creation of a new Walbrook Square development,

Clem and I couldn't agree on which photo we liked best from today's photo shoot so we compromised and made a diptych. Would you have been able to pick just one? Hope you have a fantastic Thursday!

The strength and weakness of compromise. Maybe a typical Dutch idiom: when a group of people has to make a decision, not everyone can stick to their personal point of view. Each must concede something toward the other. In Dutch we say "water bij de wijn doen", literally translated "pour water on the wine'.

I am off to Orlando for a week tomorrow. I won't be uploading until later. Have a lovely week!

'Cause I don't wanna toss and turn forever

No I just wanna know what could have been

No I don't wanna sacrifice the future

No I just wanna live for me again

Life is a process of compromise. On my birthday, I made this for myself. The more you live, the better you know how to compromise. Accomodation , adjustment, tolerance, good and bad, desire and constraint, .. endless list of contradiction. In the center of this abstract picture, It seemed to me , a sitting Buddha .

I was compromised for this train due to a prior appointment, luckily I got done a few minutes earlier than expected and I was able to dash to near Trent, whilst the early running train was being held at the junction - the bad luck though, was as the road where this is taken from is well below track level, when I punted up the pole as they set off, I'd picked a spot that was blighted by bushes, the locos were clear but the stock was compromised, so this has received a fair bit of digital gardening... I also had the drone up, further back, but for whatever reason it failed to fire....

Ebb and flow...show compromise

Four thirty A.M, I'm awake again.

Singing to the dark through open eyes, while dreaming I see only you and me ..

Stuck between desire and compromise ..

Can't quite get out of black and white yet.

Shooting on the hoof is always a compromise and this image is a good example of that. Having missed a glorious rainbow on my way home from work on the previous afternoon, I decided to take my camera gear to work the following day just in case I encountered favourable conditions. As I approached Sawley Marina, I could already see banks of mist rising from the surface of the River Trent and its surrounding area. Not wishing to miss out, I hurriedly parked and rushed to the edge of the Sawley Cut. There was no time to set up a tripod or mess about with filtration as I composed this image by standing on a small wooden jetty. This was probably the best I could do under the circumstances and I know that I saw what I considered to be the strongest composition from my car as I crossed the bridge over the Trent, but there was no way I could have got there in time or got to work on time. I also regret the vapour trails in the sky - traditionally a big no-no in the world of serious landscape photography, though I am not prepared to clone them out as they were there and I don't wish to be dishonest. It's difficult to avoid them with this location being so close to East Midlands Airport.

Taken near Exshaw, Alberta.

I was not expecting to shoot the dark side of the mountain so I was not using a tripod. Thus this photo has a higher ISO and and less depth of field than I wanted.

Regardless of the technical compromises, I was surprised how fast the moon climbed above the horizon. I was hoping to see it roll down the mountain though!

With the bird flying almost towards me and me facing into the flight this was never going to be as crisp as other shots.....however there's something about this I really like - mainly the light in the background reed beds and the softness that it creates in the image.

Got plenty to keep me busy however I do get an itchy shutter finger when the weather stops play. Where's this crisp, hard winter that was getting talked about?

Press L but no more as can't take too much.

First ever mobile upload, iPhone capture. Quality compromise but the light spike to me.

Lancer: "ShadowKnight Actual, this is codename Lancer. The mission has met complications, I was unable to take the primary extraction with the rest of the team and need immediate pickup, over."

ShadowKnight Actual: "Acknowledged, Lancer. I'll get back to you on the extraction method. What was the hold-up?"

Lancer: "Uhh... I was holding back hostiles while the team was breaking for the helipad. Nearly made it."

ShadowKnight Actual: "Ah, here we go. We cannot send any more aircraft for your extraction, because the US has finished stalling. Darkwater cannot take the risk of Pan-Asia discovering our cooperation with the United States. The USS Honey Badger has agreed to send a small transport boat to the coordinates 7-5... Here... I marked the extraction point on your NAV system. Copy, over?"

Lancer: "Affirmative ShadowKnight Actual. I have the coordinates."

ShadowKnight Actual: "Lancer, you have a window of 75 minutes to make to the harbor before the boat returns to the carrier. Keep a low profile. I suggest taking a route through alleys or through the sewage system. I must warn you that Tokyo is still on lockdown, which means there is a chance that either civilians or personnel may be lurking within the sewers. Just don't get caught, over."

Lancer: "Copied. In the event that I do not make it to the pickup zone on time, what will happen?"

ShadowKnight Actual: "... Don't let that happen. Over and out."

Our Daily Challenge - What doesn't belong

This abandoned church in South Bend, Texas was definitely "structurally compromised" when this photo was taken in 2009. It's flat now, or at least as flat as a pile of weathered lumber and shingles could be. It was located beside a small abandoned motor court a few hundred yards from the intersection of RT 701 and RT 67 about 10 miles south of Graham. South Bend was originally named "Arkansas", but was changed to its present name years later. Mail sent to someone in 'Arkansas, Texas" must have generated some confusion in being routed to its recipient in the days long before postal codes were adopted.

Reminds me of the old Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog cartoons where the factory whistle blows and they stop chasing each other until the lunch hour is over.

I've seen Robber Flies during their amorous activities many times...but never in this position before! It appears they've learned a new trick from the Kama Sutra!

This is my last click of a shutter for year 2010. Ironically this is also the first upload for 2011. :-) May this brand new year brings more positives to all of us.

Pitigliano and its area were inhabited in Etruscan times but the first extant written mention of it dates only to 1061. In the early 13th century it belonged to the Aldobrandeschi family and by the middle of the century it had become the capital of the surrounding county.

In 1293 the county passed to the Orsini family, signalling the start of 150 years of on-again/off-again wars with Siena, at the end of which, in 1455, a compromise of sorts was reached: Siena acknowledged the status of county to Pitigliano, which in exchange placed herself under the sovereignty of Siena.

From then onwards the history of Pitigliano resorbs into the gradually wider ambit first of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany (1562) then of the united Kingdom of Italy.

Rest day for me on Monday. Forecast was wall to wall sun down the coast and also throughout the wider Cumbria so I devised a plan.

I was going to shoot the 05.46 BIF - CAR at St. Bees but the lazyarse in me decided to have a couple of snoozes so that decision was revoked in favour of Flimby.

Then a Kingmoor - Sellafield working was activated in the path of the 6C22 flasks so there was another re-jig as the workings would pass at Flimby. There would be better lighting for trains in opposite directions at Workington docks and I would have time to re-frame for a southbound shot following the northbound.

Anyway, here's 37409 at Derwent Junction. Sun's not quite on the nose but you can't have it all.

It’s a compromised composition from what I wanted as people were everywhere. The Jackson locals shared that this has been the busiest Labor Day week in memory.
