The sea it swells like a sore head,
and the night it is aching
Two lovers lie with no sheets on their bed
and the day it is breaking
On rainy days we'd go swimming out
on rainy days swimming in the sound
On rainy days we'd go swimming out
You're in my mind all of the time
I know that's not enough
If the sky can crack
there must be some way back,
for love and only love.

Baby don't cry
Car alarm won't let ya back to sleep
You're kept awake, dreaming some else's dream
Coffee is cold, but it will get you through
Compromise, that's nothing new to you
Let's see colours that have never been seen
Let's go to places no one else has been
You're in my mind all of the time
I know that's not enough
If the sky can crack
there must be some way back
to love and only love

This shot could have been a bit better but when shooting from a moving car you have to make do with what you sometimes get.
Thus the title. It seems to have not a bad composition. I had to crop out the left side as there was a telephone pole there.
I seem to have this knack of nailing a tree or pole dead centre of the shot.

Wir konnten uns nicht entscheiden ob wir ins Hallenbad oder ins Freibad gehen sollen. Sind dann einfach hierher. :=
Last week you already saw a version of this scene from the terrace bank in Dresden. This showed you the compromise I had to make when trying to fit everything interesting into one photo.
Today's version forgoes such compromises. Instead, it's focusing on the elements that really matter to tell the story.
So what were the ingredients that made this morning and therefore this sight so special? In any case, it was the floods in the river Elbe that flooded the street below the terraces, allowing the morning sky to be reflected.
But it were above all the beautiful historic buildings of Dresden's old town (Residenzschloss, Kreuzkirche and Semperoper) that were bathed in a golden light by the newly risen sun.
And that's all it takes. At least that's my opinion. You can now make up your own mind about the picture.
Sometimes less is much more, and this also (and perhaps even especially) applies to photography. And even though it sounds so simple, I sometimes find it quite difficult.

Today’s image was all about trying to make the best of a compromise. I really wanted to catch both the curve of the shoreline as well as the colour of the sky but I just couldn’t get everything I wanted in frame.
On the night in question the water was millpond smooth, which was in stark contrast to my previous visit in gale force winds, and the shape of the bay was clearly visible on the edge of the sands. The colour reflected in the water was just beautiful and I wanted to make that a feature of the image. However, I was shooting with a super-wide lens to get in the sky and that has the effect of exaggerating perspective. Basically it makes distant objects appear even more distant and that spoiled the nice shape of the waters edge. I had a choice to make; foreground interest and sky but lose the curve of the shoreline or raise the tripod to get better perspective and see more of the curve but lose the impact of the foreground. Well in this image I chose the latter and decided to drop the impact of the rocks under foot. Did I make the correct decision? Well I’m still not convinced I did because the feature I wanted is just too weak to make a difference here and the rocks could have been so much stronger. At least the sky looks great!
This was our annual family trip—full of compromises and a whirlwind itinerary. I knew Lake Kawaguchiko would offer some of the best photographic moments, but we had less than 24 hours to spare. The rain forecast had loomed for days, and when we arrived by train, it poured harder than I’ve seen in years.
With nowhere else to go, we checked into our hotel and wandered through nearby museums. Then, as if on cue, the clouds began to lift. I headed straight to Arakurayama Sengen Park, hoping for a glimpse of Chureito Pagoda with Mount Fuji behind it.
Just as I arrived, the sun broke through. Mount Fuji emerged through the haze, and golden light touched the pagoda’s edges. It wasn’t a perfect sky, but the atmosphere was unforgettable—quiet, fleeting, surreal. I chose to leave the wire/electrical cables visible in the photo. I had seen so many images where it had been edited out, I didn’t even know it existed until I stood there myself. Now that I’ve seen it in person, I wanted to keep it in—to remind myself and others that this detail is part of reality.
Very often I take a photo with an image in my head. That sounds stupid I’m looking at the damn picture through the view finder, but what I mean is I have an image in my minds eye of what I want that photo to become. More often than not I fall short of my expectations. Usually the reason for this is that I’m following an ideal of something I’ve seen before, where is not important but it’s in my head, whatever the catalyst from the scene in front of me it was to far from that ideal that all the processing in the world was not going to get to where I was trying to go. So I end up experimenting to achieve a satisfactory compromise and I move on. However with this photo I feel I hit the nail on the head. Starting with taking the photo I took several interpretations over a few days, different lighting, including the sky or not and different focal lengths. Apart from the right light the focal length was really important as it needed a long one to compress the curve in path so it stood out, this in turn discounted the sky. So by now you’ve gathered I’m happy with this image, for now, If you have made it to here I would be interested to know if you can spot any influences in this image.

▪️Greater Israel” is NOT a conspiracy theory, it’s an actual policy of the Israeli government.
What was once whispered in think tanks is now acted out in real time with Gaza completely leveled and the West Bank slowly being annexed piece by piece. Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt are all in their crosshairs.
Billions in US military aid to Israel and Western press too compromised to say the quiet part out loud are allowing this to happen. It’s an ongoing project of ethnic cleansing built on the erasure of the Palestinian identity and the subjugation of their neighbors under one giant Zionist entity, when it’s been hiding in plain sight for 75 years."

Every now and again I think it's worth having a dip into my archives to see if I missed anything the first time around. Looking at this image with fresh eyes, I have decided that I quite like it, even though it demonstrates a number of compromises. At the time I was in a quandry about including or excluding the masts of the boats. I made images with and without but I couldn't quite make the image work how I wanted. I wanted the orb of the sun to play a prominent role in the final image, so I compromised with the masts and went for a more closed in perspective. The wires from one of the masts cuts through the sun, which is regrettable, but I have posted this because I enjoy it's moodiness in spite of its flaws.

Freedom
Freedom will not come
Today, this year
Nor ever
Through compromise and fear.
I have as much right
As the other fellow has
To stand
On my two feet
And own the land.
I tire so of hearing people say,
Let things take their course.
Tomorrow is another day.
I do not need my freedom when I’m dead.
I cannot live on tomorrow’s bread.
Freedom
Is a strong seed
Planted
In a great need.
I live here, too.
I want my freedom
Just as you.
Langston Hughes
There are people who've said that I'm being brave for being openly supportive of gay marriage, gay adoption... With all due respect, I humbly dissent. I am not being brave, I'm a decent human being... Love is a human experience, not a political statement

But laws alone cannot secure freedom of expression; in order that every man may present his views without penalty there must be a spirit of tolerance in the entire population.

Freedom is like a bag of sand. If there is a hole anywhere in the bag, all the sand will run out. If any group of our people are denied their rights, sooner or later all groups stand to lose their rights. All the freedom will run out.

Something's at the edge of your mind
You don't know what it is
Something you were hoping to find
But you're not sure what it is
Then you hear the music
And it all comes crystal clear
The music does the talking
Says the things you want to hear
I'm young, I'm wild and I'm free
Got the magic power of the music in me
I'm young, I'm wild and I'm free
Got the magic power of the music in me
She climbs into bed
She pulls the covers overhead
And she turns her little radio on
She's had a rotten day
So she hopes the DJ's
Gonna play her favorite song
Makes her feel much better
Brings her closer to her dreams
A little magic power
Makes it better that it seems
She's young now, she's wild now, she wants to be free
She gets the magic power of the music from me
She's young now, she's wild now, she wants to be free
She gets the magic power of the music from me
You're thinking it over
But you just can't sort it out
Do you want someone to tell you
What they think it's all about
Are you the one and only
Who's sad and lonely?
You're reaching for the top
Well, the music keeps you going
And it's never gonna stop
It's never gonna stop
It's never gonna, never gonna, never gonna, never gonna stop
The world is full of compromise
And infinite red tape
But the music's got the magic
It's your one chance for escape
Turn me on, and turn me up
It's your turn to dream
A little magic power
Makes it better than it seems
I'm young now, I'm wild now, I want to be free
Got the magic power of the music in me
I'm young now, I'm wild and I'm free
Got the magic power of the music
I got the music in me
I got the power
I got the magic
She's got the power
She's got the magic
She's got the power
She's got the magic
She's got the power
She's got the magic

This was a difficult compromise :-) I think Macro Mondays has challenged all of us members throughout the year. I chose to focus on some elements I used for the "Relaxation" theme (surfboards, see here: www.flickr.com/photos/134352553@N04/35597512936/) and a new take on the "Musical instruments" theme (piano instead of guitar, see here: www.flickr.com/photos/134352553@N04/24270050178/).
To me, using creativity to figure out what to do is quite different from the "busy" daily life. It is like diving into a paradise where heavenly music plays and "forces" you to relax... agree?
Thanks a lot to the admin group for a really nice year and HMM and HNY to you all :-)
Since birth, when it comes to travel, I have been like a dog…just open the door and I will excitingly jump in without a care of where we are going! I have posted about this sick level of wonder lust many times. You are never too old to learn new things about yourself. I just learned that I never want to travel overseas for a month again!!!
Arriving home last night around 9:45…safely…I could have fallen to my knees and kissed the ground! Don’t get me wrong – we had a wonderful time on a once in a lifetime adventure to one of the most beautiful places on earth. We knew we had set ourselves up for a fast-paced/see as much as possible trip, and if we were going to do it, sooner was better than later. It looked aggressive on paper…I had no idea how fast paced it would be…feeling my age every step along the way! Here are a few stats from our adventure:
8182 miles flown with 10 take-offs and landings
3 rental cars with more than 3000 miles driven…on the wrong side of the road and car!!
86 miles by train traveled.
17 different hotel stays.
Countless miles walked with hills and stairs…thus I ate like a pig and only gained 3 lbs.!!!
2104 photos downloaded!
Looking back on all the variables that could have gone wrong, God blessed this trip in every way that only He could!
On a personal note: I will be receiving a new right shoulder soon to replace the “End of function” (Surgeons words) one currently attached to my body. To keep from going crazy during my recovery/rehab I am going to spend more time editing and trying to improve that skill set. The shots taken during this adventure will trickle out as completed.
Here is the first shot taken, day one shortly after arriving in London. Our hotel was a stone’s throw from the Westminster Bridge over the River Thames. Everyone will recognize Big Ben, but very few know about the white lion at the base of the bridge. He is massive (13 tons) and was the carved in 1837 as a mascot for The Lion Brewery. When the brewery was demolished in 1949, King George VI himself stepped in to save it. Pidgeon’s are great for showing scale of size!
Being an avid wildlife photographer in London, I had to settle for a statue!
One of those moments when you line up the shot then hear the ominous sound of a train horn behind you.
With 69004 on the Middleton Towers to Barnby Dunn sand train I thought this might be a good spot to catch it on the side.
The train honed into view around 15-20 minutes early when I heard the toot from the Doncaster I-Port to Felixstowe liner. The consolation of losing the side shot, was the first flat was empty allowing a passing shot.
Both trains partially hidden behind the heat haze of 66315.

I wanted to get quite a bit of the trunk in focus, without having the background to be too much in the way.
It's not perfect (I'd like to have more of the trunk in focus), but I think it's a decent compromise.
It was an interesting one to shoot, going very low with the tripod's central column inverted and shooting upside down to manage to have that. Definitely worth it to fiddle around with it, though, it was quite dim and I got a clean file by going for long exposure.
Adding the stylish (and inefficient) Woodslites to a Looonnnng and Low hood.....eye catching on this 1930 Cord Cabriolet!
Errett Lobban Cord was, seemingly, fearless. He’d worked his way into the industry on sheer chutzpah by bluffing his way into a Chicago Moon dealership, and his success there led frightened investors at the failing Auburn manufacturer to take a chance on him as the man who could turn their brand around. First as general manager in 1923 and soon as president he did so in magnificent style. Auburn became the springboard for an empire.
Like Henry Ford, E.L. Cord believed in controlling as much of the manufacturing process as he could, and acquired Auburn’s engine supplier Lycoming. New subsidiary Duesenberg used Lycoming engines as well, albeit a heavily modified version.
With Auburn selling between $1,000 and $2,000, and Duesenberg starting at over $8,000, there was a big gap in the lineup, and Cadillac, Packard and Pierce-Arrow were all targeting a sweet spot at $3,000 to $4,000 with their mid-range cars. The market was booming, and E.L. Cord wasn’t about to miss out.
The new car would be the first with Cord’s name on it, so he was determined it had to be special, especially in styling which he wanted to be lower and sleeker than the competition. At the same time he didn’t want to compromise on headroom. In keeping with his “be different” motto, he determined that front-wheel drive was the answer.
In 1926, Cord purchased the rights to a front-wheel drive passenger car design from Harry Miller, whose FWD race car had made a very strong showing at Indianapolis in 1925. He hired Miller himself on as well to oversee engineering, and Miller in turn brought on engineer and driver Cornelius W. VanRanst; together, they had a working prototype by 1927. Together with Auburn and Duesenberg engineers in Indianapolis, they began developing it into a production-ready automobile. On a test drive in 1928, the doors popped open on a rough road, which inspired Auburn to use the first known application of an x-brace in the frame. Cross and roller joints in the driveshafts were replaced with double universal joints to quell vibration. The engineering reportedly wanted more time to develop the car further–for instance, despite the engine being set far back in the chassis with the transmission in front of it, the weight balance is unfavorable and L-29 Cords have difficulty with traction under certain conditions, such as climbing hills in the rain. The car was capable of high-speed driving, but Lycoming’s 125hp, 298.6-cu.in. straight-eight was taxed during acceleration of a 4,320-pound cabriolet and never designed to be in this reversed installation, driving the transmission in front of it.
But any shortcoming were lost behind the L-29 Cord’s styling. The longest and lowest hood in the industry combined with that sensational radiator made the car a sensation, as well as proving irresistible to coachbuilders.
In four short years of production, Auburn built just over 5,000 L-29 Cords, before the Depression combined with a lack of distribution and lingering public mistrust of the unconventional configuration ended sales in 1932. That was ample time, however, to make it a legend and completely change the course of American luxury car styling.
Because of the L-29s avant garde construction and high cost, some $3,000 and up, comparable to a less-expensive Chrysler Imperial or V-8 Cadillac, owners tended to be artistic and adventurous. Frank Lloyd Wright famously owned one, as did designer Brooks Stevens.

How can it be permissible
She compromised my principle, yeah yeah
That kind of love is mythical
She's anything but typical
She's a craze you'd endorse, she's a powerful force
You're obliged to conform when there's no other course
She used to look good to me, but now I find her
Simply irresistible
Simply irresistible
Her loving is so powerful, huh
It's simply unavoidable
The trend is irreversible
The woman is invincible
She's a natural law, and she leaves me in awe
She deserves the applause, I surrender because
She used to look good to me, but now I find her
Simply irresistible
Simply irresistible
(Simply irresistible) She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went
(Simply irresistible) She's all mine, there's no other way to go
She's unavoidable, I'm backed against the wall
She gives me feelings like I never felt before
I'm breaking promises, she's breaking every law
She used to look good to me, but now I find her
Simply irresistible
She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went
(Simply irresistible) She's all mine, there's no other way to go
Her methods are inscrutable
The proof is irrefutable, Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
She's so completely kissable, huh
Our lives are indivisible
She's a craze you'd endorse, she's a powerful force
You're obliged to conform when there's no other course
She used to look good to me, but now I find her
Simply irresistible
Simply irresistible
She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went
(Simply irresistible) She's all mine, there's no other way to go
She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went
(Simply irresistible) She's all mine, there's no other way to go

One of the lasts shots that I ever took of The Sea Prince.
In 11 years I had never actually trailed this plane before, for some reason! Possibly due to there always been other stuff to shot and the fact that there is an annoying security light that comes on if you get too close around this side. I'm a sucker for a north star trail so it had to be this side!
I wasn't sure on the angle at first, I had already had to compromise so much because of the overgrowth and in this case battling the impending daybreak from the right. I only just capped this off in time, I tried one more photo from here in landscape and the day had already broken, not the worst shot ever but still not what I was going for.
Looks like I didn't break my streak last time as it still took me ages to decide to upload this photo next. I like this one, it's fitting, the composition, the stars, it's just right for "The Final Shot" A few minutes after this was taken we said our goodbyes and left never to return.
Just a simple cow I came across in a field during my Scotland travels. I never got to see a proper Highland cow on that trip so this is my compromise.... Shot lying low in the fields with some shadows and see thoughts from the grasses and wildflowers.
I'm not one for removing undesirable things, such as electrical cables, from photos. You can either get the image you want, or you can't. There's always a compromise.
In remembrance of September 11, 2001. Thank you to all those who gave their lives, health, and time to save us you are all remembered and this work is dedicated to you.
Now that we have finally ended the war in Afghanistan let's hope that we can continue living and debating rather than using violence because war never really resolves anything. We need to debate with empathy, respect, positivity, patience, compromise, trust, truth, appreciation, facing the problem head-on together, staying calm, defining the problem, and finding common areas of agreement in order to help us reach the goal of compatibility. If both sides have the will to solve the problem a solution can be found. It takes time, effort, goodwill, and resolve, and a great deal of diplomacy and love, but peace is possible, let's make peace our goal!
We need to come together as families, villages, counties, states, countries, and most importantly globally.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

The stone sculptures in Sno, a small village in the Kazbegi region of Georgia, are part of a remarkable art project in the Caucasus. These sculptures consist of impressive stone artworks depicting giant faces, often with a melancholic or mysterious expression. They were created by local artist Merab Piranishvili, who is renowned for his unique ability to bring faces and emotions to life in natural stone. Working primarily with local stones, he carves expressive facial features that tell stories about life, the soul, and the deep connection with nature. The sculptures symbolize the ancient wisdom of the mountain dwellers and the spirit of the past. The faces sometimes appear sad or contemplative, reflecting both the challenges and the beauty of life in the Caucasus. Fully integrated into the surrounding landscape, the sculptures stand among the mountains, hills, and rugged grasslands, blending seamlessly with their natural environment. This is what makes Piranishvili’s work so unique: he respects the natural shapes of the stones and subtly adds human characteristics without compromising their raw, natural beauty. Piranishvili often works directly in the field, selecting local stones and carving them with a hammer and chisel. He carefully considers the natural form of each stone, adapting his designs to create a result that looks organic and harmonizes with the surrounding environment.
Sno is located near the breathtaking Stepantsminda area and the imposing Mount Kazbegi. The stone sculptures are a hidden gem in this region, attracting an increasing number of art enthusiasts and travelers. The site exudes a serene, almost meditative atmosphere—perfect for those seeking something unique off the beaten path. If you ever find yourself near Kazbegi, these sculptures are well worth a visit. They offer a truly unique experience where art and nature come together in perfect harmony.
Just a new profile picture. In RL, I am a a mix, part Okinawan, Norwegian, French and maybe Blackfoot. So I thought I'd try to make a face that looked more like mine. Did not quite succeed. I have a little chin and a face that's a little more square but when I went even lower with the chin, it had a really weird profile although it looked ok from the front. So I compromised to have a both an Ok front and Ok profile.

For years I've had to keep my office doors closed during the day while I worked, because this stinker, to get my attention, would climb behind my desk where all the cords are.
I finally wised up and blocked the opening with some storage boxes, which has left just enough space for Finley to lay off the floor, directly under my desk, which has a glass top.
It's our 'compromise', lol.
