British Library.

This is straight up in the air shot, suitably colour mangled for Sliders Sunday. I thought the basic image was sufficiently abstract that a little more abstraction wouldn't, at least, do any more harm.

The British Library's new buildings are in London near St Pancras station. I went there for a conference on robotics and AI (looking at moral and ethical issues) so suitably cerebral!

The Library is arguably the largest library in the world and is one of the three legal deposit libraries in England - a copy of all print and digital publications that are published in Britain must be given to them by the publishers. The other two English deposit libraries are those of the oldest universities, Cambridge and Oxford. The preservation of learning is, I think, one of the good aspects of human civilisation that deserves celebrating.

As usual for Sliders Sunday I shall post the original.

Thank you for taking time to look and perhaps read. I do appreciate that. I hope you enjoy the image :) Happy Sliders Sunday!

[Handheld in daylight.

Developed in Capture One for rich colour and contrast, The crop was entirely driven by the rule of thirds - total lack of imagination on my part ;)

Affinity Photo for the mangling: and HSL adjustment layer for an overall shift but most of the work was done in a Curves layer in LAB mode walloping the colour channels variously :)

A trifle of Unsharp Mask, but any sharpening gave rise to haloes which I didn't have time to mask out... so a compromise. An emphatic dark vignette to heighten the surrealism (no, I don't really know what I am talking about, just trying to impress. As ever, hah! ;) )

Even though I had been to Cummins Falls a couple of times, I had never brought my camera along until this past weekend.

I took a rather dangerous shortcut to get down to this level (something I would recommend against if you have a medium-sized backpack on your back and are carrying a large tripod case). One small misstep would have meant being life flighted out of the area. I'm glad that misstep didn't happen. The next time I'll likely take the safer (but significantly longer and more time consuming) route.

If I had waited another hour or two to go to the falls, then the cliff face to the right of the falls would have been lit by the sun. I think that would have been ideal. Unfortunately, I had plans that afternoon and had to compromise by getting to the falls earlier (around 2pm).

It was relatively crowded this day and got steadily more crowded the longer I stayed. This image was one of the few that didn't have several people in the foreground.

NJ Transit's latest heritage unit on display at the "Meet Our Rail Fleet" event in Hoboken Terminal. 4202 looks sharp in a fresh coat of Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines dark green paint. This paint scheme is a mix of the simple round logos applied to PRSL GP38s and the serif lettering applied to most classes of PRSL Baldwins. The compromise makes sense, as the GP38 scheme was very spartan and they were not used in passenger service, unlike the Baldwins. 4202 was displayed along with a restored Lackawanna caboose that is part of the URHS collection. One World Trade stands tall in lower Manhattan, visible over the nose of 4202.

This photo almost didn't happen... While venturing around this place I was lucky enough to step on a rusty nail! I just barely had enough time to shoot this and drive to the doctor right before they closed so that I could get a tetanus shot. So it was a pretty eventful afternoon.

The nettle leaved bellflower loves dark places, such as the edges of woods, hedgerows and scrubland. The lavender blue flowers are found at the top of a thin stem, that can be up to a metre tall.

Photographer's notes: Shooting from this angle presents a set of challenges due to poor light, the long stamens and the shallow depth of field. As a compromise I chose to shoot directly in line with the main stamen to create a strong composition. Even in the stillest conditions the stem sways unpredictably. f3.3, 1/80th of a second, ISO 400.

The way I processed this shot was a compromise between this lovely little girl and the landscape behind her.

If I cropped it more you would miss the context wherein this girl is living, a vast empty landscape with majestic mountains, and the small tent where she is living with here parents, and vice versa you could miss how lovely she looks, but you can see it by pressing L and F11.

The picture was taken on the vast plain around Son-Kul where we were heading for the lake. Another stretch of amazing scenery, completely different culture, where people are living their lives as they did for thousands of years (instead that now many have cars and Tv's, besides there cattle and horses). Wolfgang, one of my travel companions said this looks like parts of Mongolia which is easy to imagine.

The girl is waving us goodby after we had given here a small toy. Enjoy!

20 September I came back from my journey over a part of the Silk Road to and through Central Asia. 4 months of traveling through 14 countries (Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran) before I flew home from Teheran. An impressive journey in countries that are extremely beautiful, with lovely and welcoming people and diverse cultures and history.

Intense traveling with more than 20000 kilometers in our mobile home on sometimes roads that hardly could be called that way. We saw many villages and cities (some wonderful, others very ugly), countries that are transforming from the old Soviet era into something more related to older cultures and the way people live, often funded by oil readily available around the Caspian sea. We saw the amazing mountains south of the Black Sea, the wonderful Caucasus, and the high mountains in the far east close to China with peaks over 7000 meter, and not to forget the (Bulgarian) Alps!

We crossed the great steppe of Kazakhstan. a drive of at least 5000 km, the remnants of lake Aral, once one of the biggest lakes of the world, saw a rocket launch from Baikonur (this little part is Russian owned), we crossed many high mountains passes, and drove the breathtaking canyon that comes from the Pamir, beginning at ca 4500 meter, and going down for ca. 400km to an altitude of 1300 meter, driving for 100's of kilometers along the Afghan border.

And then the numerous lakes with all sorts of different colors from deep cobalt blue to turquoise, and one rare spectacle in Turkmenistan where a gas crater is burning already for more than 40 years. And finally and certainly not the least to mention an enormous amount of wonderful, hospitable and welcoming people. The woman often dressed in wonderful dresses, and bringing a lot of color in the streets of almost of all countries we visited.

Residential, military, Gothic, Manueline architecture. Small castle with a central, square plan, with towers at the angles, combining the functions of a manor house and castle. The medieval building underwent 16th century interventions, namely the staircase, ogival roofs and balcony spans with Manueline moldings. The traditional mortars used in the masonry of elevations, in particular at the level of the start of the same, are used in other monuments in the region. A singular monument in the medieval military architecture in Portugal, it is an interesting compromise between the manor house and the castle, rare for the probable time of construction. The staircase wrapped in an autonomous box in the Keep.

Quickly glossing over the dear old Snowdrop..."Artistically" compromised by Peter Blake, the designer of the Sergeant Pepper album sleeve...( Glossing over it is literally what I would like to do, but some people actually like this....hey-ho )... Traditionalist and reactionary are some of the kinder words from them to me.

Ok...getting to the enormous Stanley Dock Warehouses...although recently most famous for being the backdrop location in many episodes of T.V. tour-de-force "Peaky Blinders", the buildings, especially the enormous tobacco warehouse, have a long and impressive history. Some of this is best shown in a video embedded in the website I am linking to this photo.

Gentrification has many benefits, and also some detriments to old industrial sites like this...I am sitting on the fence, and am only adding the website link, not as advertising for the fine apartments which will soon be available ( to a select few ), but because it best shows the possibilities of what preserving such heritage, albeit transforming it to residential use, can achieve.

You will see a link to a video showing an amazing story of Eleanor Roosevelt visiting American troops in the part of the warehouse which was used as a wartime hospital...truly fascinating.

First comment in the comment box, is where you will find the link...look for the video "Echoes of the past"

We had a ringing session (under licence) near Stirling this morning and caught this Jackdaw. Its white eye and glossy black plumage indicate this is a full adult (2023 bird or earlier) and so it seems to be coping well. Often in cases like this preening is compromised but this bird was in tip-top condition

Disillusion, dissension

One love for a life but no life for one love

No sacrifice, no compromise

Misunderstandings and we’re fed up staying

If one feeling can hurt a man

I wanna be inhuman

I ain’t got no lust for pleasure

I don’t want to suffer

Dysfunction, distortion

See the modern quest, the blooming of itself

Don’t look backward, don’t look forward

This generation waits for a revelation

If one feeling can hurt a woman

She wanna be inhuman

Is there anyone who can help her ?

She doesn’t want to suffer

Tell me if it’s a game

See your empty life

Tell me if it’s a shame

See my empty life

Division, destruction

Solitude in the hive

One point for self-service lives

I like your void, do you like mine ?

We’re glad untogether

I like your freedom, do you like mine ?

After doing my research on accommodations that are available on the way to Alaska, I realized, we were going to have to compromise. We love our bed so it is always difficult knowing that there are many unknowns when you travel. But, it is all part of the adventure! I read about many people’s experiences with hotels/motels so I thought I was quite prepared. I also put a fair amount of credence into the reviews and thus booked accordingly.

We contemplated getting a holiday trailer which in hindsight would actually be the very best way to do this trip. We even thought about getting a tent installed for the truck. Our main goal was to photograph bears on this trip, even though I have a real fear of bears. I have watched the movies, THE BACK COUNTRY and THE EDGE so many times. A tent, in the middle of nowhere, even on top of the truck just was not going to work. Bears can climb! Enough said!

So, for a lack of another word and not to offend many of our gracious hosts on our trip, I will say that the accommodations are quircky. You certainly do not get what you pay for. Everything is expensive!

Our first hotel was gorgeous but ridiculously expensive. Our second, was a cabin. From the outside it looked great, but once we opened the door, well, not so great. Put it this way - I was on spider patrol - all night! Spiders everywhere! I knew they were watching me and I also knew that as soon as I fell asleep I would wake up swathed in a silk cocoon somewhere in the rafters above, unable to move, an instant meal to be devoured at their whim. Needless to say, I did not sleep.

At 2:00 in the morning I was so hungry my stomach protested louder than my husband was snoring. Damn him! He can sleep anywhere!

There was a granola bar in the truck, but, I had to get to the truck first. I sat in the cabin, weighing the pros and cons of going outside. My hunger prevailed over my fear and I got up, and slipped into my jeans and runners. I opened the cabin door. A massive, black abyss greeted me. I have never seen this side of night before. With Jager by my side, I pushed my way through the blackness and stopped on the deck and looked up at the night sky. There are no words to describe the magnificence that hung over my head. The stars glistened like diamonds on black velvet.

It was my reward for bravery!

Our third motel was so small that all we could do was sit on what we thought was the bed and laugh. It was part of the adventure.

When we woke up in the morning we were covered in bite marks and I don’t mean bear bites!

We were three days, three nights, 2500 kilometres into our trip and a very long way from home…

If you are also a pet owner, probably you will understand what I am saying.

Do you feel guilty when you want to go out to take pictures? Especially when your cat stares at you as you pick up the camera bag?

So may be you want to stay home and spend more time with her. You still love to take pictures. What will be the best compromise? Let's take her pictures!!

Puss is my little old lady and she needs to take a nap on my bed in the afternoon. She does not like pictures taken. Sorry Puss. Have a good nap and I love you.

Wish you a great weekend!

Me and Rian....showing off our teeth :D

I get asked a lot about how I manage to get saturation levels that I do without compromising on image quality or details. My simple answer is exposure. The longer you expose, the more time you give the sensor to record the same detail over and over again. The downside is that it takes a while before you can fully come to terms with manually metering your scene and be fast at it too! If you try upping the saturation levels in photoshop and zoom in, you will see the obvious loss in details.

I was out for the better part of this week and on the road. I will definitely catch up with all of your work from now on.

This is a unique location in Lulworth Cove in the sense you can stand right on the top of the cliff and look down with the sun behind you. There are lota Man-O-Wars along the English coast and this is one of them on the Jurassic Coast. There are so many elements that were in play here that I could not help but marvel this beautiful yet a quiet little cove tucked away into the coast.

Thanks for viewing and have a nice day!

The Art Nouveau is the style of natural harmony. Its committed goal is the establishment of the concord of the beauty and function without compromise. This is the last comprehensive European style enriching the European culture in the applied art, the fine art and construction design. The art of the Hungarian masters enriched the unique idiom of the Art Nouveau. Being a rich resource of the trasures of this style, the Hungarian Art Nouveau is a worthy competiror of the heritages of the French, German, Belgian and Aystrian Art Nouveau. The permanent exhibition consists of paintings, furniture, ornaments and interiors. It provides and authentic sight of the atmosphere of the civic life of the “peacetime” of Budapest for the visitors. A cafe of friendly atmosphere and shop of original silver jewelries and ceramic copies waith the visitors.

Opening hours 10-17, closed on Sunday.

The building, designed by Emil Vidor, reflects the influence of Belgian and French architecture. At the same time, the facade of the building also incorporates Hungarian patterns, like the Zsolnay ceramics patterns. Not long ago, the building was entirely renovated. Besides the private museum operating in the establishment and displaying furniture, porcelain, ironwork and paintings, visitors can sit into a lovely café, too.

In 1907 the periodical Hungarian Competition (Magyar Pályázat) presents a description of the building in the Architectonic Chronicle section (Építőművészeti Krónika) with the title: Mr. Bedő Béla's Honvéd Street Palace. The designer, Emil Vidor, took good care of the building’s interior space as well, in the spirit of Gesamtkunstwerk (all objects in the same style).

This powerful unity of the arts and crafts in 1903 was a groundbreaking event in Hungary. The Bedő House was built only six years after the Belgian Victor Horta made his first fully Art Nouveau house, and in the same time with the Scottish architect, Mackintosh's famous arts house.

Even a contemporary description mentions the planned use of specially designed murals, the richly applied stained and ground glass, and generally the special design furnishing of the whole building.

On PBS Masterpiece Theatre “Vienna Blood” prodution the location was used and the Dr’s apartment was within this fine building.

The house was built by Emil Vidor in 1903, for the Bedő‘ family. The contemporary furniture, decorative objects, paintings and instruments displayed on more than 600 square meters faithfully evoke the beginning of the twentieth century. In this way, the museum gives insight to the visitor into the “peace-times”, the atmosphere of bourgeois life of Budapest.

I had to compromise between the high-noise ISO and a one minute exposure, and the stars making a trail with a much longer exposure at a low ISO. Technically, the photo is pretty dirty, but the stars were so amazing that I had to share. This makes me lust for the D700.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall at 111 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, California, is the fourth hall of the Los Angeles Music Center and was designed by Frank Gehry. It opened on October 24, 2003. Bounded by Hope Street, Grand Avenue, and 1st and 2nd Streets, it seats 2,265 people and serves, among other purposes, as the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. The hall is a compromise between an arena seating configuration, like the Berliner Philharmonie by Hans Scharoun,[1] and a classical shoebox design like the Vienna Musikverein or the Boston Symphony Hall

Sometimes a compromise has to be made

Bei's compromise to being comfy

I don't mind where you come from

As long as you come to me

I don't like illusions I can't see

Them clearly

I don't care no I wouldn't dare

To fix the twist in you

You've shown me eventually

What you'll do

I don't mind...

I don't care...

As long as you're here

Go ahead tell me you'll leave again

You'll just come back running

Holding your scarred heart in hand

It's all the same

And I'll take you for who you are

If you take me for everything

Do it all over again

It's all the same

Hours slide and days go by

Till you decide to come

And in between it always seems too long

All of a sudden

And I have the skill, yeah I have the will

To breathe you in while I can

However long you stay

Is all that I am

I don't mind...

I don't care...

As long as you're here

Go ahead tell me you'll leave again

You'll just come back running

Holding your scarred heart in hand

It's all the same

And I'll take you for who you are

If you take me for everything

Do it all over again

It's always the same

Wrong or right

Black or white

If I close my eyes

It's all the same

In my life

The compromise

I close my eyes

It's all the same

Go ahead say it you're leaving

You'll just come back running

Holding your scarred heart in hand

It's all the same

And I'll take you for who you are

If you take me for everything

Do it all over again

It's all the same

Here is my Grendizer (Goldrake/Goldorak)! Being a real legend in many countries, this guy truly deserves a proper treatment, so i've made the biggest creation i've ever made so far: 320 mm is a good help while recreating the typical curved surfaces of 80ies Super Robots, but it has been also a challenge, trying to reach a good compromise between aesthetic, solidity and poseability.

Weather conditions have not been ideal for the entire day, zero light at sunset, very nice blue hour full of dark clouds (picture next week!), and then just completely overcast. I went for a short nap and I decided to wake up again around midnight to check the sky. The conditions were not ideal but it was much better than I expected. This is the only lucky shot I managed to take at the Milky Way since a strong wind was blowing clouds just to the center of the Galaxy. After that I had to fight quite hard to get a decent shot of the foreground. The terrain was next to a lake and I was litterally sinking in water every movement I was making. These flowers are called Eriophorum (cotton-grass) and they are typical of the Artic Tundra or the north-west Alps (especially high in the Adamello National Park). I wanted these beauties rather than a simple reflection (which was anyway impossible due to wind). I had to make compromises with the dept of field because a long exposure of several minutes was impossible and so were for focus stacking shots, the wind just made everything tricky. After some attempts I got away with a clean shot at high iso and low f/. This is it, the night at 2600m in the wilderness of the Adamello National Park.

Dear Friends, fellow photographers!

My old dream came true this week: I finally bought the coveted Tamron 16-300mm F3.5-6.3 DiII VC PZD MACRO lens, albeit used but in excellent condition. To hear so much criticism, to read about the so-called traveling zoom optics, in terms of quality and compromise. I don't care about these. Do I want to make posters? No? So what do I want? To bring joy to myself, to you, my loved ones, to inspire you with pictures, to give you ideas and so on. That's what I get from your pictures. And frankly (this is age-dependent I guess) I don't want to change the lens as often as I carry it.

As for this compromise and quality, please judge my friends from my photos these days. I don't see a problem. Indeed. I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I do.

Remélem nektek is annyi örömöt szereznek ezek a képek, amennyit nekem.
