Today's sunset at Coney Island. The beach was relatively deserted for the seasonably coldness and strong wind, which all work to my advantage.

The Barred caught three mice on this rainy afternoon either it is a very skilled hunter or there are a lot of mice in the forest. The winter and the cold wave came to Switzerland.
With this picture I did not make it easy for me. At first I really could not decide which photo to put on flickr. I wrestled with myself, because I would like to present the most beautiful photo for my friends here. Secondly, the picture was made under very difficult external conditions, because it was really "bitterly cold". I could barely touch my hands after photographing and yet I wanted to get a nice photo of these beautiful ice crystals. I succeeded, more or less, because the background was not ideal for that. In addition, my faithful friend Roco had to wait for me and there I no longer want to start one try after another. This time I did not want to make any compromises with the warm colors of the picture, because the cold should be very touchable. I believe this has succeeded with this picture. I am fascinated by this "little work of art". Each little detail is a miracle of creation, because it was shaped by the elements of nature and radiates its brilliance as long as this nature allows.
I am grateful for these little things without which life would not be so beautiful and interesting.

Alex Pangman at her first performance in public this year. She had two lung transplants, so she is immune compromised and careful to stay healthy. She is a radio host at JazzFM and had mostly on-line concerts during the lockdowns and most of the last few years. It's a miracle that she is still singing. Last time I've seen her was in June 2022 (photo in my gallery). Her voice is unchanged even in comparison, when she had her own lungs in her 20's. It was really great to hear Alex Pangman performing live in public, and she was trilled too. The concert was billed as Kevin Ray Clark and friends and the New Orleans based trumpeter has fortunately excellent musician friends in Toronto. The whole weekend was full of great music in the old Gooderham Distillery, which became tourist attraction 20 years ago. It did not attract many Torononians in the last decade or so; let's hope this programming is a change for the better.

Alex Pangman performs a previously unrecorded & unpublished song written by singing legend Connee Boswell in the 1940s. This was finally recorded by Pangman in August 2019 in Toronto Canada with Drew Jurecka violin, & Nathan Hiltz guitar.
Auf dem Gelände des ehemaligen Dorfs Wollseifen errichtete das belgische Militär 1950 zahlreiche Kulissenhäuser, um den Häuserkampf üben zu können. Beispielsweise wurde hier im Mai 2001 für den Kosovo-Einsatz trainiert.
Um diese Häuser entstand eine heftige Debatte, ob alle unter Denkmalschutz gestellt werden sollten. Aus Sicht des Nationalparkforstamts sprachen Gründe der Verkehrssicherheit (jedes bestehende Gebäude muss verkehrssicher gehalten werden), die damit verbundenen Kosten, das Verbot jeden menschlichen Eingriffs in den Nationalpark, sowie die Benutzung der Häuser als ungereinigte Toiletten und Müllkippen für einen Abriss. 2012 einigten sich das Denkmalschutzamt und das Nationalparkforstamts auf einen Kompromiss: Von den ursprünglichen 52 blieben 21 Häuser stehen. Diese wurden im Frühjahr insbesondere durch Vermauern der Türen und Fenster im Erdgeschoss so gesichert, dass ein Zugang für Besucher des Nationalparks nicht mehr möglich ist. Für Reptilien und Fledermäuse wurden Schlitze gelassen und in den Kellern Aufschüttungen zum Verlassen vorgenommen. Ein Nebeneffekt bei dieser Maßnahme ist auch, dass der Blick auf die ehemalige Pfarrkirche freier ist.

On the site of the former village of Wollseifen, the Belgian military built numerous backdrop houses in 1950 so that they could practice house-to-house fighting. For example, training for the Kosovo mission took place here in May 2001.
A heated debate arose around these houses as to whether they should all be listed as historical monuments. From the point of view of the National Park Forest Office, there were reasons of road safety (every existing building must be kept safe for traffic), the associated costs, the prohibition of any human intervention in the national park, and the use of the houses as uncleaned toilets and rubbish dumps for demolition. In 2012, the Monument Protection Office and the National Park Forestry Office agreed on a compromise: 21 of the original 52 houses remained. In the spring, these were secured in particular by bricking up the doors and windows on the ground floor so that access for visitors to the national park is no longer possible. Slits have been left for reptiles and bats and embankments have been made in the cellars to leave them. A side effect of this measure is that the view of the former parish church is more free.

Sunrise is still a difficult time for me to get up, so I compromised and slept halfway through the evening, woke at 1 and began planning for my sunrise shoot. I expected some partially cloud skies, and decent light. Originally I was going to head towards a lake, setup and catch the sun as it splashed some color over the water. It wasn't to be though I saw the signs as I left my house at 5 in the morning [latter than I had originally intended too] low lying fog all around. Plans changed, evolved. I knew exactly where to go. Up to Looking Glass Rock I went with my traveling partner, and here is the result. Once again the sky is somewhat cloudless, but with the partial thermal inversion in effect, it takes this already stunning view to a new level.

The hardest part of capturing slot canyons is the extreme contrast between the open sky and the dark interiors, it is definitely more than most camera’s can deal with probably at least 5 stops difference in most cases. With that much light variation to deal with some compromises in shot composition and technique need to implemented in order to capture enough detail to make it worth the shot effort. In order to deal with the extreme lighting conditions I shot brackets of three shots capturing the highlights and darks so that I could combine in post processing to maximize the full exposure range needed to capture the best detail.
I took this on Dec 26th, 2019 with my D750 and Tamron 15-30 f2.8 G2 Lens at 26mm, 8s, f11 ISO 100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia ,and DXO Nik

Traveling to Tibet in 2015. This is a view of huge snow clouds in action (black skirt under the cloud was snow) at 15,000 feet Tibetan Plateau elevation. The deep blue sky (no pollution) offered a great background for the layered translucent clouds. The image quality was somewhat compromised by the train window glass.

I did manage to plant all forty milkweed plants yesterday, even with all of the distractions that were flitting about. However, I did not trim a single thing. Today, I shall begin with the firebush that is located just outside the living room window. I knew those branches were getting a little long and the little mischievous acrobatic entertainers would discover that the swing feeder was no longer out of reach. Still, it is quite a jump followed by a balancing act to get to the feeder. This little guy deserved his bounty.

However my concentration was shattered by a number of golf balls coming my way. The dragonflies just had to be near the 5th hole on the local golf course !! Even when I retired across a service road 10m from the green, an elderly gentleman shanked one perfectly between two palms & down the road just in front of me.
Discretion being the better part of valor, I beat a hasty retreat
The squall on the right of the frame was rapidly approaching the moorland plateau where i was hiking. We had some strong winds on Exmoor today, so i had to work fast to find a composition and take a couple of shots before the rain hit. Had to compromise on ISO and aperture in these conditions but had something to show for the soggy trip! (f/6.3, 24 mm, 1/60th sec at ISO 160).
Beauty on a grey day. As its an absolutely miserable day I didn't fancy going out in the rain but wanted to do something different from shooting set up shots in doors, this was the best compromise a shot from inside of the outside world. I like the refracted view in the raindrops on the window and the slight reflection of the camera lens. I shot this with a shallow depth of field so that the detail could only be seen in the refracted image.
We must find a way to live in harmony and look after our wildlife and environment. If we are unable to it will be too late.
Love is the answer, not hate! If we sit down together, listen and compromise we can find solutions!

A complex time. Many levels and layers. A lot is changing right now, willingness to compromise and flexibility are the order of the day – and not complaining so much if you are rather well (I try anyway). With today's topic I came across this cardboard in search of suitable material for layering. Cardboard is also used by many homeless people to protect themselves from the cold. This time is incredibly serious for the poorest in the world – and I don't know if a good fairy really helps ...
Anyway, I wish you all the best, take care of yourself and keep an eye on your loved ones!

Eine vielschichtige Zeit. Viele Ebenen und Schichten. Vieles ändert sich gerade, Kompromissbereitschaft und Flexibilität sind angesagt – und nicht so viel jammern, wenn es einem einigermaßen gut geht (Ich versuche es jedenfalls). Bei dem Thema heute kam ich auf der Suche nach geeignetem Material zum Schichten auf diese Pappe. Pappe verwenden auch viele Obdachlose, um sich vor der Kälte zu schützen. Diese Zeit ist für die Ärmsten auf dieser Welt unglaublich ernst – und ich weiß nicht, ob eine gute Fee da wirklich hilft ...

Tonight was my first attempt at light painting. I wanted to bring more of the foregorund detail to the image without compromising the image the noise of having my ISO up too high. The green glow of the northern lights combined with the lit up green grass reminded me of emeralds.

The Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium was designed by the Taliesin Associated Architects and was completed in 1971 in a manner compatible with the main civic center complex designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The auditorium was designed for use by the county fair with a combination of flat-floor exhibition space and tiered seating spaces, using a compromise plan devised by Wesley Peters, George Izenour, and Aaron Green. The main hall seats 1960 in an amphitheater arrangement. A separate Showcase Theater seats 300, and the exhibition hall can accommodate up to 2000 patrons.
