Settled in 1860s; named for Salty Creek, cattle licks. Joseph and Sarah Frasure gave site for Methodist Church, 1871. Earliest burial in cemetery was in 1875. Community had school by 1878. Violence erupted in area in 1880s over barbed wire fencing. Salty was designated a voting precinct in 1886. Mail service was initiated 1897. Settlement had telephones, stores, a barber shop, at least three doctors.
About 1900 the Annual Salty Singing Convention was founded by A. J. Jackson. This institution remains, although stores and the school were closed in the 1940s. (1971) (Marker No. 8000)
College and local community leaders recently celebrated the opening of the College’s second major art exhibition. “Warhol Featuring Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop| Works from the Bank of America Collection” features portfolios and individual prints by Andy Warhol. The exhibition also includes more than 100 photographs by Warhol, comprised of both black-and-white gelatin silver prints and color Polaroid prints featuring unidentified figures and celebrities alike.
Rooted in the community, the Pineville Branch of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library officially opened to the public on Saturday December 10th, preceded by a ribbon cutting ceremony the previous morning. The community enjoyed a variety of programs and activities on opening day including a family storytime, henna and face painting, a photo booth, a magic show, other kids activities, and of course all of the wonderful books that the Library has to offer. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is proud to officially welcome Pineville residents to the staff and spaces that will empower children, teens, and adults with knowledge and resources to pursue lifelong learning.

Students from HCC’s Silas Craft Collegians program take a break from their summer class orientation to pose for a photo. During the three day orientation, the students met with veteran Collegians, participated in team building activities, and learned about the various support services provided by the college.
On the day when the London Marathon should have taken place, but was cancelled due to the Covid 19 pandemic, many people sought other ways of raising money for charity. One of our neighbours had all her hair shaved off by her husband, in return for sponsorship!
The panelling around Debenham's department store (the old Arding and Hobbs building on the corner of St John's Road and Lavender Hill) has been used by local residents to express their responses to events

Community was created by Rebecca Louise Law by combining more than 50 of her previous installations to create what she calls "an undulating natural space suspended in time". Dozens of interns, museum staffers, and volunteers were involved in assembling the strings of dried plants and flowers suspended from the ceiling.
