I was away for a week and before I left I think my garden was half as filled in. Bradley took over for me while I was gone – it was crazy-hot outside that week and with B's TLC the garden took off. Maybe I should go away more often! I swear the raspberries doubled in size.

Many of current and potential students took advantage of an event aimed at teaching them how they stand to benefit through Houston Community College’s training opportunities and course studies. Saturday’s event at HCC’s Alief Campus (SOAR Learn and Earn Summit) was hosted jointly by HCC District VII and Alief ISD with HCC Trustee Neeta Sane and Alief ISD Trustee Ann Williams initiating and leading this summit. The event was held at the HCC Alief Campus Saturday, April 2. The attendees asked potential employers about what they’re looking for in an employee. They also learned about job skills, work ethics and financial aid.

This picture here was on a rainy day and I liked it since it was in a different perspective. I wanted to enhance the colors a bit to look darker and sharper than the original photo. I noticed that the community is always focused on their tasks and do not really pay attention to their surroundings. I chose this image because it was the best looking picture in my opinion as I wanted to remake my contact sheet. I feel like the end result was a little too blue though.

Sponsored by the Southwest Illinois Division of United Way of Greater St. Louis and The Telegraph, the annual Community Christmas donation drive for the Riverbend community once again brought in thousands of items for those in need during the holiday season. The drive wrapped up on Thursday, December 13, when more than 160 boxes were picked up from local businesses, dropped off at a central location, and then were sorted for distribution to the 14 receiving agencies. This year, Community Christmas brought in more than 20,000 items, including non-perishable food, clothes, winter weather necessities like gloves, hats and scarves, blankets, baby care items, hygiene items, and new toys.
A nine-foot bust of Benjamin Franklin, commissioned by the city of Philadelphia, was installed on Oct. 3 and dedicated in Girard Fountain Park at 4th and Arch Streets in historic downtown Philadelphia at 10 a.m. on Oct. 5, 2007.
In 2003, the city of Philadelphia launched a competition to replace the much-loved but deteriorated Penny Franklin sculpture that stood next to the Engine 8 firehouse in the historic Old City neighborhood (see map). After sifting through many submissions, the council chose James' proposal for a nine-foot bronze bust. Key to its selection was James' desire to make the sculpture more than simply a memorial and a thing of beauty; just like the work it would replace, he said, it should be a touchstone for the surrounding community.
