37km-stop #10

Taken near Akureyri on a 45 hour phototrip around Iceland Nov 29th to Dec 1st with my friends Ólöf and Davíð, two fellow members of Fóton, photogroup.

This trip was a great experience although we came back very tired after more than 1300km of driving and stopping around 60 times for picture taking in 45 hours.

We all made ourselves missions - assignments for the trip.

We stopped every 37km where I had to take photos for three themes.

We also stopped at the entrances of every town and village that we drove trhough where Davíð took selfportraits.

Ólöf had props with her that she used for selfportraits that she took on the trip.

Then we stopped a few times for other motives that we just couldn't drive by.

We stopped at some 60 places for picture taking.

Day Eleven: Ingleby Cross to Blakey Ridge

Meagan and I were coming home after trying to find the YMCA in Marblehead. A couple of cruisers were sitting outside of our house (which isn't pictured) and all the doors were open.

A cop in our driveway told us to just go up stairs. 10 minutes later they told us to grab our coats and leave.

As if anyone didn't know, but today Obama was sworn into office and is officially the President of the United States. He has given us hope and the promise of change. Change is coming for me too. . .

Suddenly coming face to face with a wild Hare on one of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust footpaths at Hickling Broad, not sure which one of us was more surprised! Just had time to grab a quick shot before it ran into the bushes.

No time to change settings so a shaded path and highish shutter speed resulted in using ISO 3200 and with only a small micro four thirds sensor this technically reduced overall definition/quality but the G9, RAW processed with DXO DeepPRIME XD Noisereduction, has done a pretty good job of retaining detail.

Day Seventeen .. We have two nights in Glasgow starting at a wonderful airbnb in a two bedroom flat. And we have a washing machine!

The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a museum and art gallery in Glasgow, Scotland. It reopened in 2006 after a three-year refurbishment and since then has been one of Scotland's most popular visitor attractions.

The construction of Kelvingrove was partly financed by the proceeds of the 1888 International Exhibition held in Kelvingrove Park. The gallery was designed by Sir John W. Simpson and E.J. Milner Allen and opened in 1901, as the Palace of Fine Arts for the Glasgow International Exhibition held in that year. It is built in a Spanish Baroque style, follows the Glaswegian tradition of using Locharbriggs red sandstone, and includes an entire program of architectural sculpture by George Frampton, William Shirreffs, Francis Derwent Wood and other sculptors.

The centrepiece of the Centre Hall is a concert pipe organ constructed and installed by Lewis & Co. The organ was originally commissioned as part of the Glasgow International Exhibition, held in Kelvingrove Park in 1901. The organ was installed in the concert hall of the exhibition, which was capable of seating 3,000 people. The Centre Hall of the then newly completed Art Gallery and Museum was intended from the beginning to be a space in which to hold concerts. When the 1901 exhibition ended, a Councillor urged the Glasgow Corporation (now Glasgow Council) to purchase the organ, stating that without it, "the art gallery would be a body without a soul". Purchase price and installation costs were met from the surplus exhibition proceeds, and the organ was installed in the Centre Hall by Lewis and Co.

There is an urban myth in Glasgow that the building was accidentally built back-to-front, and the architect jumped from one of the towers in despair upon realising his mistake. In reality, the grand entrance was always intended to face into Kelvingrove Park.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvingrove_Art_Gallery_and_Museum

WORK IN PROGRESS. Just puttin' that out there right now. I know I still have a long way to go on this one. That being said, as far as rough drafts go I think I've done a frakkin' good job! :D This is evidence that I'm finally making those Battlestar Galactica sims I said I would. Approximately six hours of work today has yielded what you see before you: the rough version of Mary McDonnell as President Roslin.

Now we have the boring-but-inevitable spiel from the so-called "artist" behind sim!Mary. I think I've got a pretty good grasp on her facial structure, and the things that are off will probably fall into place one her skintone is down. That leads me to the biggest leap for me: the skintone!!! I made it... sort of. (!!!) I used a skin from HystericalParoxysm's latest set as the base, and then copied and manipulated bits and pieces from pictures of Mary, and as of now the face is like 90% my work. (The body skin will likely go unaltered except for the tone, which could be tricky to get just right.) Her eyes and eyebrows have been the most difficult part of the project so far. I ended up just using pictures of Mary's eyebrows and painting them on the skin, and once I got the skin on the sim, I saw where I would have to make some changes. Shouldn't be too hard, methinks, and I'm not a ninja master like FP or Joanne or Honey or Carrie or half the other people on my contact list who get everything right the first time. ;)

Anyway, so yeah, that's my first real step in the right direction with making good on my word. I'll probably put the skintone through 2 or 3 more bodyshop tweaks and test runs, then get her in game to see how she's coming along. And yay for that hair. It's very season-3!Laura.

Yesterday on my bike ride I decided to go check the place where the fall Hayrides are in the Metro Parks. The rides are over and in just a couple weeks the toboggans will open for the season. The leaves will all be gone soon as we are getting high winds and very cold weather, they even mentioned the "S" word!!!!!
