Shooting in RAW

I’ve read a few articles on whether you should shoot in RAW or JPEG. Today’s photo is a good illustration of why you should shoot in RAW if your goal is HDR...

Today’s photo: Coming Through

I’d like to be able to claim that I carefully set my camera to blur the gorillas left hand and show movement. The reality is, with a gorilla bearing down on me, playing with the camera was not the first...

In school, I hated studying history. It was always measured by wars and territory. Congress passed this act. America is the most wonderful country on the planet. Yawn!

Finally, in seminary, someone presented history in a way that made it come alive. The story of humanity is not about evolving designs in weapons, but in a flow of thought and human experience. Mistakes, ideas, cultures, and feelings. A single teacher surprised and motivated me. I learned more from studying history in seminary than I learned from any other discipline.

Now, I'm reading "A People's History of the United States," by Howard Zinn. Never thought I'd read a book by that title! I'm not into the narcisism of patriotism, and many accounts of American history have been whitewashed. But, once again, history is making sense for me. Zinn is filling in the blanks.

It's good to feel that again. And, to use history -- a topic I'd always hated -- to step away, on occasion, from my everyday tasks.

That was a great dream, wasn't it?

While the sun was setting, the fishermen in the vast water land (known in local language as Haor) were preparing to return to home. No matter how far we go, we shall all return home some day from where our journey started. That's part of circle of life.

The 1968 442 convertible gets a tightness check by my awesome car buddy Matt just before it's last leg of a 285 mile trip. Coming home to papa. She came with an extra set of top bows and parts which is a real bonus when you consider the originals are very sound and not rusted as well. ( and we made it safe on I - 465 around Indianapolis whew !)

Yeah, the spider is just creepy. It doesn't cast a web, it shoots out rope. Needless to say, I didn't like being near this guy for too long. I wouldn't say I have a fear of spiders, I just don't like them.

One of only 15 of these Art Deco Odeon cinemas surviving in the country, the Byron in Hucknall is disused upstairs. It was divided from a full height cinema in 1967 with the stalls being converted to a bingo, which still continues today. The 404 seat cinema closed in 2007 and sits silently in the dark.

So, 1100 wrenches went into the fender, 316 wrenches come out, gravity took the rest...

Ha! Actually thought this was going to be a lot worse than it was. 6 bolts to remove the hood hinge, 2 small ones to loosen the top antenna mount, and 1 (long) one to remove the lower mount. A little bit of finagling and it came out. The only real PITA was the lower bolt as I'm not a lefty and you have to work in reverse to get your hand in the fender. Currently en route to Texas to be rebuilt with a steel cable.
