This is a sego lily or a mariposa lily. "Sego" is a Shoshone word, meaning "edible bulb," referring to the root organ that the Native American tribe considered a delicacy. "Mariposa" is a Spanish word for "butterfly," referring to its most colorful pollinators. About 60 species of sego lilies are native to western North America -- This is Gunnison's sego lily, Calochortus gunnisoni, named after explorer Capt. John Williams Gunnison, who was also honored by the naming of the Gunnison River and Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It thrives from mesas at the lower edge of the ponderosa pine belt to high mountain meadows.
Photographed in Cement Creek, near Crested Butte, Colorado.
This is the same dog otter as from my previous post. As mentioned before, he was in superb condition and was a joy to watch and spend so much time with.
Getting closer to getting better short-eared owl photos. You can be ready but it's really up to them if they decide to fly close to you or not. This one came in pretty close but unfortunately it was after sunset, so my ISO was skyrocketed!

Lofoten Islands
Norway
Lofoten is a group of islands in the northern part of Norway.
Though lying within the Arctic Circle, the archipelago experiences one of the world's largest elevated temperature anomalies relative to its high latitude.
With its postcard-looking small fishing villages nestled in fjords, dotting a very rugged coast with abrupt peaks rising directly from the ocean, the archipelago is often described as one of the most scenic parts of Norway.

This is an image of the giant otters that one can see when visiting the Pantanal , Brazil. They are very large and swim extremely quickly making it difficult to capture an image of them. You never know where they are going to come up. Fortunately this one was coming towards me and I was able to get a head on image of him. The pantanal is a wonderful place and certainly a paradise for the photographer who is hoping to see a lot of wildlife. If you would like info on Natures Tapestry Photo Adventure Tours next trip to The Pantanal please contact me and we will send you further details.
Wishing you a beautiful and blessed night !
Driving in to the small gold rush town of Downieville is aways a delight. The town has changed little in the last 160 years and still has wooden sidewalks in the main part of town. At its peak, during the gold rush era, the town boasted a population of over 5000 people. Today this sleepy little hamlet is home to a mere 282 people. On this morning, not one of them was to be found. We did manage to find a small store that was brewing coffee, but honestly the coffee tasted like it might have brewed during the gold rush era.
This was one of the many stops on my recent 10-day "Travels with Harvey," itinerary.

The evening August air is warm, as Lonnie stands on the entrance to The Milwaukee Road shops at 3301 West Canal Street and captures the final three dead in tow Milwaukee FP45's. The final trio of cowl units will be set out in Muskego Yard, where they will be then transferred to the diesel house and stripped of any usable parts before being scrapped in the back shop.
