"Poetry is a fresh morning spider web telling a story of moonlit hours of weaving and waiting during a night."

- Carl Sandburg

When I began capturing images with my macro lens, my spider friends were some of my favorite subjects. I especially like how this image allows us to see the thin strands of silk coming from the spider's spinneret.

Back from a wonderful workshop on Helgoland, photographing the huge colony of gannets.

I was trying to get a blind shot of Jasper but he kept advancing. I'd back up, he'd advance. And so the dance went until I put the camera down so we could play properly.

male peregrine falcon about to go overhead (thankfully). This is six shots after the previous picture. cropped because it was too much bird, too fast and too close. those amazing eyes. they can spot prey from a mile away. humans have 30,000 cones (to perceive color) in their eyes, peregrines have around a million. they can also see ultraviolet light that helps them track prey. and because of their speed in flight they are designed to perceive light at 100Hz while humans see it at 60Hz. everything would be a blur to them at high speeds with out that ramped up flicker fusion frequency.

So here ends the French trip, with a parting shot of the sun setting taken from the ferry. Thanks to everyone for all your comments and for sticking with me through the tour.

View of Wharf 4/5 at Walsh Bay.

Hickson Road, near Dawes Point.

At sunset on Friday, 13th December, 2024,

This wharf is home to 'The Sydney Theatre Company'. At the end of the wharf there is, on the top level, 'The Theatre Bar At The End Of The Wharf'. See:

On this occasion the Tall Ship 'Søren Larsen' was just arriving to allow passengers to disembark and attend the Christmas parties at either the Theatre Bar or Pier One.

In the far distance, across Sydney harbour, you can see the 1940s apartments, and the car-park, at McMahons Point.

The odd swirly bokeh are the Christmas lights I usually use to create shots like this. Unfortunately, they are very orange light and kinda overpowered the scene so I directed the blue flood LED onto them instead to create this. Ordered some colour change ones off Amazon that will hopefully arrive soon!

Shot on some glitter card.

Have a great Sunday.

Out of nowhere this Snowy Owl suddenly appeared. It flew past a few us walking along the circuit road and then banked right to sit on the slope of a hill. Eventually it managed to grab a vole at the bottom of the slope. Toronto, Canada
