The blood moon appears over the hills in southwest Germany. It is a hot summer evening in August 2024. The night temperature also remains around 20 degrees Celsius and you can enjoy the spectacle of the rising moon without a jacket.

Another Banded Sphinx Moth Caterpillar found sporting a few racing stripes......

I've read that the young Instars come in a variety of colors, and there is some color variation in mature Instars as well.

They have a series of false eye patterning to ward off birds and other predators......

Kind of hard to tell which direction they're facing sometimes, as their markings can be deceiving.

An arctic tern flying above the breeding colony watching for its mating partner. It is so fascinating to me that they could find each other in all this chaos and between hundreds of similar looking birds.

This was taken at the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary in Sabah. It was feeding time. I'm not sure, but I think the trainers have actually trained several of them to walk along the rail on the way to the feeding station. It was a rush to be so close.
