Returning to Harlech beach and a combination of colour that I think complement each other rather well. The perfectly still waters of the reflection and sand ripples were the draw along with the interesting sky.

This is a combination of data from two telescopes and three cameras. The blue reflection nebulosity that covers the Lagoon Nebula and extends outside the main magenta-red nebula is very evident.

Over the weekend I redid this 2 year old photo from the Perseids meteor shower of August 2020. I shot several long nights around Aug 13 from Staré Hamry (Czech Republic) with 2 cameras to capture as many meteors as possible. I managed to photograph and process 28 of them, which I then incorporated into this mosaic.

I also photographed the trees and overal foreground from multiple angles and the same place as the sky and meteors. This particular foreground photo was taken after moonrise (I suspect it was sometime after midnight). The sky is 1on1 correct to the foreground and is combination of 5 photos merged into panorama.

Brain #: 346 (LEFT)

In describing his inspiration for the Brain Project, artist David Drebin noted that the title of this brain says it all: Inner Thoughts. What was once personal and safely nestled inside one’s mind is now on display for all to see. Take a look and see if you discover some inner thoughts of your own.

When Bobbie Burgers wakes up or falls asleep, various dream-like images often float across her mind’s eye. This is what makes up most of her work; a collage of day dreams, death, rebirth, nature, beauty, age, perfumes and sounds. All her senses intertwined. She has recently been intrigued by how most of her creative work takes place in this dreamlike, subconscious state. Lucid dreaming and dream incubation are a fascinating combination of creative control and controlling one’s own creativity on how we view the world, what we wish to experience and the endless unknown of the human brain.

Due to a train service strike, no trains ran until 9 a.m., and on the same day there was snow for the first time this winter. So a photo with rails and snow on the top of the track, in daylight and on a working day is a fairly rare combination.

ROSE Tower was a combination tower/yard office. This large structure sat between the Westbound Classification Yard and the Westbound Departure Yard and was directly adjacent to the 5th Street bridge. A major fire in the late 50s destroyed part of the tower, requiring a rebuild. ROSE housed yard offices, dispatcher's offices, and locker rooms. ROSE lasted until April of 1974 when ALTO Tower took over its functions.

So, I've decided that I want to become a strobist. I'm really excited about the whole prospect, and can't wait to start getting all the equipment for it. I love the effect that it gives a picture, and I'm totally sick of the horrible lighting I always deal with. Expect great things if I can ever find a manual flash that I'm satisfied with. I'd love a Lumopro LP120, but it seems that they're sold out EVERYWHERE I've looked online.

If you have a suggestion for where I can find one, or another manual flash that would be good for a beginner and not more than $150, please let me know. I've heard mixed reviews about the Vivitar 285... any thoughts?

I'd really appreciate any tips anyone can offer.

Seen here flying in tandem above the shoreline of Jones Beach are the U.S. Navy Blue Angels team. These pilots are part of an incredibly talented group that can make virtually make their jets dance in the sky. Their performance run was simply incredible to watch.

The Blue Angels pilots are selected from the best of both the U.S. Navy and Marine Corp, and serve as part of a two or three-year rotation that travels across the country (and around the world) to perform for millions of spectators.*

The Port of Miami, styled as "PortMiami" but formally the Dante B. Fascell Port of Miami, is a major seaport located in Biscayne Bay at the mouth of the Miami River in Miami, Florida. It is the largest passenger port in the world, and one of the largest cargo ports in the United States. It is connected to Downtown Miami by Port Boulevard—a causeway over the Intracoastal Waterway—and to the neighboring Watson Island via the PortMiami Tunnel.

The port is located on Dodge Island, which is the combination of three historic islands (Dodge, Lummus, and Sam's Islands) that have since been combined into one. It is named in honor of 19 terms Florida Congressman Dante Fascell.

As of 2018, PortMiami accounts for approximately 334,500 jobs and has an annual economic impact of $43 billion to the state of Florida.

In the early 1900s, Government Cut was dredged along with a new channel to what now is known as Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami. This new access to the mainland created the Main Channel which greatly improved the shipping access to the new port. From these original dredging spoils which were disposed of on the south side of the new Main Channel, new islands were inadvertently created which later became Dodge, Lummus, and Sam's Island along with several other smaller islands.

PortMiami's improved shipping access and growth of the South Florida community led to an expansion of the port. On April 5, 1960, Resolution No. 4830, "Joint Resolution Providing for Construction of Modern Seaport Facilities at Dodge Island Site" was approved by the Dade County Board of Commissioners. On April 6, 1960, the City of Miami approved City Resolution No. 31837 to construct the new port. The new port on Dodge Island required expansion of the island by joining it together with the surrounding islands. After the seawalls, administrative buildings, and a vehicle and railroad bridge were completed, Port of Miami operations were moved to the new Dodge Island port. Additional fill material enlarged the connected Lummus and Sam's islands as well as the North, South and NOAO slips, creating a completely man made island for PortMiami.

In 1993, the first dredge of PortMiami occurred, deepening it to 42 feet. In 2006, a $40 million project to expand the South Harbor finished. In 2011, a project to reconnect PortMiami to the mainland via railroad began. In 2013, a dredging project began to deepen the harbors around PortMiami from 44 to 52 feet. In April 2019, the Miami-Dade Tourism and Ports Committee approved a deal for Royal Caribbean Cruises to build a new office and parking garage on Dodge Island.

PortMiami is an important contributor to the local south Florida and state economies. As a world-class port, PortMiami is among an elite group of ports in the world that cater to both cruise ships and containerized cargo.

PortMiami boasts the title "cruise capital of the world", and is the busiest cruise/passenger port in the world. It accommodates the operations of major cruise lines such as Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Disney, and MSC, among others. Over 5.5 million cruise passengers pass through the port each year (FY2018/2019).

The largest cruise ship in the world by gross tonnage, the Symphony of the Seas, is currently homeported at PortMiami. As of October 2019, the following cruise ships are homeported at PortMiami: Carnival Conquest, Carnival Horizon, Carnival Sensation, Carnival Victory, Empress of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Sky, MSC Armonia, and MSC Seaside.

As of October 2019, there are currently seven actively operating passenger cruise terminals at PortMiami: A, C, D, E, F, G, and J. One facility that is purpose-built for a specific company is currently in use, with four more of these types of facilities in their planning or construction stages.

Native blue-banded bee on a Cordyline flower. Many Cordylines come from Hawaii but there are also species native to South America, New Zealand, parts of Asia, New Guinea, the islands of the Pacific, Mauritius and eight species native to Australia. Cordylines come in many colours or combination of colours including many shades of greens, reds, pinks, purples, yellows, oranges, cream and white. The Australian species are mostly green but occasionally variegated forms are found, these are highly prized by collectors. Cordylines have a large range of leaf shapes and sizes with some varieties, with foliage up to a meter long with proportionate width. Some have compact leaves of only a few centimeters in length while others have narrow strap like foliage. (Source: International Cordyline Society)

Another, slight less abstract, photo of one of the beautful concrete stairs inside the Herzog & de Meuron Blavatnik School of Government in Oxford.

Whilst searching for possible entries to this years CIOB 'Art of Building' photo competition I realised I've a whole load of photos of the Blavatnik School of Government that I've never even touched. I'm planning to upload some of the best over the next couple of days so if you're not a fan of concrete I'd look away now.......

From Wikipedia "The Blavatnik School of Government is located in the University of Oxford's Radcliffe Observatory Quarter on Woodstock Road, however its main entrance is on Walton Street. The building is designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron to promote open discussion, interaction and collaboration. The central forum is inspired by the idea of openness and transparency and connects all the floors together. Construction work started in autumn 2013, after some controversy, and ended in late 2015. The building is controlled by a combination of systems and technology that helps minimise its environmental impact."
