I really like the color combination of red and white

The combination of golden light and wooden fencing helped to create a western look to this image. Add to that a white streak in the sky in the form of a cloud, and balance was achieved. I wanted to find the correct angle that would line up the fence with the ridge. That had me fumbling about while standing on an uneven drop off.

Alone on this ridge, there was plenty of time to work uninterrupted. Only the golden light served as my hour glass. Like the sands that would flow through the apex, light too would continue to change, until absent.

Thanks for views,faves and comments:-))

The combination of early morning light, mist, hills and trees create interesting fan-shaped triangles and a moody atmosphere.

Just painted a wall and thought this orchid looked nice against it. Just a phone pic.

Ogwen Valley looking towards Tryfan.

I was treated to a beautiful sunrise over the Ogwen Valley in January. It was a cold night but worth it to wake up to this stunning view, one of Snowdonia's most beautiful landscapes.

I love the combination of colours in this image, with the colours reflecting in Llyn Idwal and Llyn Ogwen matching the colours in the sky.

Mist and sunlight is such a nice combination.

Enjoy!

Next Sunday I will try to photograph some different subjects, maybe extraordinary single trees.

The colors come from the combination of very expired film and ECN-2 developer. Yes, you can use my DIY ECN-2 kits with slide film. No, I don't add extra saturation in Photoshop. There's no such thing as a scan "straight from the camera" - every choice you make in post, including making no choices, affects the final look of the image. If you make no choices, the scanner, the software and some algorithm are collectively making choices for you.

What I did in post was scan like I'd scan anything else. Reduce the saturation a bit and tighten up the low ends. There's no such thing has "doing nothing to it" whether it's in the darkroom or on the scanner bed.

Enjoy these choices (and your own) or don't.

Most of the overall look comes from the film and the camera and (obviously most importantly) the photographer.

And if you find yourself complaining about someone's work on Instagram realize that you're looking at it on one of the tiniest formats for art in literal human history.

In a fairly timeless scene (minus the modern newspaper box), GMRC 405 chugs across Depot St. in Proctorsville for the umpteenth time in its sixty-six year career. The classic RS-1 was the power on the west end of the Green Mountain Flyer over the weekend, and the combination of an extra trip, and the overcast weather allowed quite a few shots of the vintage diesel toiling away.

CN 500 is backing their new (to this yard) caboose to the shop track. With previous caboose CN 79834 out of commission, the Pointe St-Charles Switcher is now using GTW 79047 for their shoving moves. Also a fairly new addition to this job is BNSF 2302. Trailing is CN 4724, which has a CN noodle underneath the zebra stripes on its long hood.

After posting lots of animals, I went back to the archives and found some pix from my days of traveling to Kansas to visit my grandbaby. I saw lots of rustic old barns and nice landscapes there. It's a pretty place!

A combination of 3 images taken on the same day... horse...fence...tree. The fence was used to create a higher elevation for the foreground (horse) by placing it half way up the frozen tree canopy. The camera settings shown are of the tree.

I saw a bunch of "love locks" today and noted that there were a surprising number of combination locks---not sure what message that sends

Looking out the back door I saw the moon rising and then noticed that it was coming "up" into the flight path of airliners on final approach to DIA. So I set up my shot and I waited and waited and waited...

Yeah this went on for a bit. Finally I got one that was close.

Keep an eye on the moon and sky this month as there is a lot of cool things happening! Most of the planets are in wonderful alignment and are basically on parade as they are in conjunction with each other and the moon.

Later this year there will be a combination of Jupiter over a crescent moon and Venus underneath. That should be spectacular!

A combination of three pictures taken from the same spot but put together to form something different. I couldn't resist putting the girl her umbrella and friend in the shot when I saw them walking towards the headland to the right and looking out to sea. The seagulls just kept hovering beside me with the updraft.

I share today this photograph of my last trip to the south of Portugal. More specifically in Lagos.

I really wanted to get to know this area, so the ten-hour drive and get up early the next morning at 5 am was really worth it, since I was in one of my most dreamed coast locations to explore and the light that there was that dawn was perfect at the time of creating this photograph.

Regarding the technical part, it is a 30 second long exposure using the combination of a four-step Formatt Hitech Filters ND filter and a soft three-step gradient ND.

I hope you like it. And I would love to know in your comments what you think about this location.

Have a nice Wednesday. ;)

There's a big broadleaf maple like the one in the background here behind our house. I couldn't guess its dimensions, but it is enormous. Technically it is in our neighbor's yard, but since it towers over and is much older than all of us it's more like we belong to it, a feeling I particularly experience in the fall, when it creates the most epic cleanup responsibilities. We often hear barred owls in it at night. Somehow we have never laid eyes on them, but I expect it is just a matter of time. We see all other kinds of daytime birds in it, of course. Cooper's hawks like to hunt in it and it is a popular place for racoons to spend the day before raiding our pond at night. All of the other very big trees nearby are firs, and I think the combination of evergreen and deciduous habitat, as well as the nearby greenbelt and wetlands, all play a role in the extraordinary suburban birding around here. This is from the owl family down the bicycle path. Barred owl, Olympia, WA.

The main window of the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) at Southbank in Brisbane looks out onto the Wheel of Brisbane and the city on the other side of the river. This late afternoon shot in the lead up to Christmas provided a fabulous reflection of everything behind me.

Happy Window Wednesday.

The general view of this area from the other side of the window can be seen in my shot from the Star Casino viewing deck a few days back in my photostream although the wheel and ABC are just out of shot to left in that image.
