Record high heat and strong winds have created a perfect combination for wildfires to break out. This one is a bit too close for comfort.

When I took this portrait of my dad and eldest daughter last evening I took one capture focused on his eyes, and then one on her eyes ... then overlaid them in Photoshop so that both were in focus given the shallow DOF I was shooting at, and wanted for the bokeh.

A fun time taking their photos last evening and also processing today on Father's Day :)

A beautiful Monarch feasting on Mexican Sunflowers (Tithonia) is a hard-to-beat combination. The biggest plot of Tithonia I've seen this year is at the National Arboretum in DC.

Superb and remote but not remote enough! As we came away , bad timing indeed as irate farmer arrived. After a brief chat we were off and as we got in the car he came up the road after us but we escaped ;)

"Chanteloup XXO embodies a heritage transmitted through nine generations, as the Martell art of blending has been passed on from one Cellar Master to the next. Today, just as I blend eaux-de-vie that were aged by my predecessors, so I nurture eaux-de-vie that will be blended by my successors.”

The Colour

Rich amber in colour, with shimmering highlights.

The Aroma

Luscious aromas of honey, vine peach and apricot, complemented by notes of fig, almonds and walnuts.

The Taste

Intense fruity aromas predominate amid an impression of fullness, balance, power and elegance, which continues into a remarkably long finish.

Martell Chanteloup XXO is named after the historic Château de Chanteloup near Cognac, France, which is the soul of Maison Martell. It is fitting, therefore, that Martell Chanteloup XXO takes cognac lovers right to the heart of the House , and to the very essence of its art of blending. This legacy of savoir-faire, perpetuated through nine generations, is today in the hands of Cellar Master Christophe Valtaud, who blends Martell Chanteloup XXO from up to 450 very old eaux-de-vie, from the four most prestigious cognac crus, brought together in perfect harmony. An unprecedent combination of richness and complexity, Martell Chanteloup XXO offers cognac lovers a complete expression of the very best of the Cognac terroir.

Serving Tips

Best enjoyed neat to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity.

American Bison

The American Bison or simply Bison (Bison bison), also commonly known as the American Buffalo or simply Buffalo, is an American species of Bison that once roamed North America in vast herds. Its historical range, by 9000 BC, is described as the Great Bison Belt, a tract of rich grassland that ran from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico, east to the Atlantic Seaboard (nearly to the Atlantic tidewater in some areas) as far north as New York and south to Georgia and, according to some sources, further south to Florida, with sightings in North Carolina near Buffalo Ford on the Catawba River as late as 1750. It nearly became extinct by a combination of commercial hunting and slaughter in the 19th century and introduction of bovine diseases from domestic cattle. With a population more than 60 million in the late 18th century, the species was down to just 541 animals by 1889. Recovery efforts expanded in the mid-20th century, with a resurgence to roughly 31,000 wild Bison today, largely restricted to a few national parks and reserves. Through multiple reintroductions, the species is now also freely roaming wild in some regions in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with it also being introduced to Yakutia in Russia.

• Old and more modern Habana combination from the Malecón seawall promenade. The Malecón (Maceo Avenue) is a promenade (paseo in spanish) waterfront 8 km long, north of Havana, Cuba. Towards, the Vedado district where are also located the Cuban government quarters on Plaza de la Revolución. In the background, on the left, you can see the impressive FOCSA building, the highest in Cuba with its 121 meters high. Its construction dates from 1956 and is considered one of the seven wonders of Cuban civil engineering. To its right, the famous Hotel Nacional which over the years has welcomed so many well-known personages. In early colonial times, it was forbidden to build on these lands to be able to see at far the enemy fleets coming. Hence the name of Vedado, which means forbidden in Spanish.

Brown Honeyeaters can often be found around Cockscomb Coral Trees in the Oxley Creek Common. The tree does well in wetlands like this because its seeds are distributed by water. Its showy flowers produce nectar which attracts insects and birds. Considered an emerging environmental weed by councils due to it becoming rapidly widespread.

The theme for this week (on October 7) is "Combination of Soft & Sharp".

A scene taken on Gloucester Horton Road shed (85B) in November 1965 shows the old and the new order with Castle Class No.7029 "Clun Castle" alongside a Brush Type 4 No.D1721. I would not have imagined that nearly 57 years later that this combination of locomotives would still be working on the mainline. 7029 now owned by Vintage Trains of Tyseley regularly hauls charter trains (topping and tailing) with Brush Type 4 D1755. D1721 was not so lucky being scrapped in October 1990.

There's something about the combination of both pink and blue colors from a single nebula that I find really interesting. This is the Trifid Nebula (aka M20) located in the Sagittarius Constellation near the core of our Milky Way galaxy.

For years shooting with a dslr camera, I saw this nebula appear really small against the vast Milky Way core. Now that I'm using telescopes and I can capture the rgb colors independently, the results are very different. With about two hours of total capture time using iTelescope's T32 wide deep field telescope based at the Siding Spring Observatory in Australia, I shot 24 images (over 3 separate nights of shooting) before processing them with Astro Pixel Processor and Photoshop.

I thought about titling this "Everything but the kitchen sink" but decided that wasn't appropriate as these depressions nearly always hold water, even when it hasn't rained for months. Great for the critters!

This is a combination of three 6-photo panoramas of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty taken from Liberty State Park on Saturday, August 29, 2015 (the night of the super moon). The top panorama was taken about 30 minutes before sunset. The setting sun is reflecting off of One World Trade Center. The middle panorama was taken at sunset (which was setting behind me). The bottom panorama was taken about 45 minutes after sunset near the end of the blue hour. This photo includes the Super Moon. If you click on the photo, you can see the Empire State Building (left), the Chrysler Building (left) , and the Brooklyn Bridge (middle).

Many local photographers were out capturing the moon with the Statue of Liberty on this summer evening. Each panorama covers a 90 degree view. The combined photo quite detailed at [11,005 x 8,378].
