City of Light - night with mist and clouds low - every now and then the mist retreated so I could get a glimpse

Louvre is one of the world's largest museum and also a well-known landmark of Paris. Located on the right bank of the Seine, this world class museum is a former royal palace and was the actual seat of power in France before Louis XIV decided to move his political powers to Palace of Versailles. Nonetheless he still uses Louvre as a place to store his private art collection. So that is how the Louvre began to becoming a world class museum

Known locally as Musee du Louvre, it houses the most renowned painting - the Mona Lisa, and masterpieces like the Winged Victory of Samothrace and Venus de Milo, and more than 380000 objects as well as 35000 works of art. The place is so enormous that you need a game plan when you visit. You could spend days there if you were to look and digest each artwork and exhibition thoroughly. Go early to avoid long queues at the ticketing counter. If you are into art and history, make it a long trip as you will not be disappointed. But if you plan just for a short visit, I would recommend going straight to the 1st floor of the Denon wing. There, you can see masterpieces by da Vinci including the Mona Lisa, multiple works of Raphael and other huge paintings from the 17th Century Upwards. Other exhibitions and items that are interesting to see is the Napoleon apartment. You will certainly be impressed with its splendor and it is a definite must for any visitor.

This image was taken last year in 2013. The three looped infinity sign on the glass pyramid is decorated by an Italian artist in a protest against capitalism and was sanctioned by the museum. The symbol is made out of mirrors, overlooking France’s business district, La Defense. This defiant political gesture is meant to convey a message to the politicians that "they should look at themselves in the mirror, and learn to take responsibility for the terrible mess (global financial crisis) and think of the infinite future ahead for humanity.”

Perhaps the most iconic of all the landmarks of The Venetian Las Vegas, a recreation of St. Mark's Campanile Tower in Venice, Italy which has a long and glorious history. One of the most famous events to take place in the original Tower was Galileo demonstrating his new invention, a telescope, to the Doge of Venice.

The first construction of the original Campanile Tower began in the ninth century. It was primarily used as a lighthouse for the docks near the Piazzetta. The Campanile Tower was finally completed in the 12th century, at which time the logetta was added to the base of the structure. Throughout the intervening centuries, the Campanile Tower was rebuilt several times due to earthquakes or other disasters. In 1912, the Tower underwent its last reconstruction. This is the final iteration that has been etched into modern history and the version that was recreated at The Venetian in 1999.

Only a true blooded MOCer would intentionally open new sets just to get much needed parts for a new creation. Once the lighted Eiffel Tower shined through Paris, it just had to be done. Similar in construction of the earlier tribute MOC with the French flag, except the tower is now in the three colors on the black background as the night sky with the white ring surrounding it.

Wynn Las Vegas opened on April 28, 2005, with 2,716 rooms and a 111,000 sq ft casino. At the time, its 45-story hotel tower was the tallest building in Nevada. It also includes a beautiful pool area featuring two large oval shaped areas connected by a long water passageway (as seen in the photograph above) and several other smaller pools.

In the distance is the High Roller, a 550-foot-tall ferris wheel with observation cabins offering city views & capable of holding up to 40 people.

I cut down the shutter to 6s here, much nicer saturation of the night sky. I also used the remote shutter control - got a sharper image than the previous 10s shutter.

“Golf is the loneliest sport. You’re completely alone with every conceivable opportunity to defeat yourself. Golf brings out your assets and liabilities as a person. The longer you play, the more certain you are that a man’s performance is the outward manifestation of who, in his heart, he really thinks he is.”

-- Hale Irwin (American professional golfer who was one of the world's leading golfers from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s; he is one of the few players in history to win three U.S. Opens, becoming the oldest ever U.S. Open champion in 1990 at the age of 45 and as a senior golfer, Irwin ranks second all-time in PGA Tour Champions victories making him widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Champions Tour history)

Paris Pantheon - Paris, France.

Not everything under construction is not worth taking a photograph of. The Paris Pantheon, although at its present state is hard to appreciate, still has an innate beauty that comes through no matter what.

The Pantheon was originally built as a church dedicated to St. Genevieve but now functions as a secular mausoleum containing the remains of distinguished French citizens. An early example of Neoclassicism, its facade was modeled from the Pantheon in Rome.
