My Friends and I would lament having to witness another green Burlington Northern caterpillar (unit train of PS2’s lead by solid sets of SD40-2’s) coming into view. Reluctantly we would spend our limited frames of Kodachrome on “it” mostly because traffic levels weren’t near what they are today. We had to take what came at us, or sit and wait, for hours, ‘til the next train showed before the light left us. And, unless we were fortunate to have snagged a Train Lineup that never seemed accurate, or heard some squawk on our crystal-channeled scanner that burned batteries faster than the midday sun our skin, we merely had to wait it out which we did time-and-time again. Hard to imagine in an age of fingertip information. Say it ain’t so! And if only we could redeem those endless waiting hours, we might add another ten years to our life. Recently a Friend with whom I spent countless hours throwing rocks between the too few trains said: “Youth is wasted on the young!” Acerbic, the quote. But, wryly true. In retrospect, I am, of course, glad we did spend our precious “film” on angular, ribbed strings of cascade green: they were more pleasing than today’s BNSF “earthworms.” I guess, that’s why I get a little romantic when I see one. Yeah, I freely admit it sends me back to when life seemed unending, uncomplicated though we struggled to save a few coins for gas pumped at just over a frogskin a gallon; never enough red and yellow Kodak boxes bearing that canister of light-sensitive, stretched-arms-length strip of celluloid with that peculiar, unmistakable odor; and meager camera gear: hopefully having enough dough left over to dial “D” for Dominos after a day of “shooting.” Priceless, those days, were. So suffer my indulgence in posting this mundane image of this anachronism from my youth immixed infinite rust brown hoppers with its viridescent luster graffitied and dulled by decades of service still sporting the bold, iconic BN logo even as it nears the end of its useful life just as we too will someday become anachronistic. Indeed, nothing lasts forever. (© 03Mar18)

A bit of a wildly colourful shot of Grotto Mt. with the frozen-over Grotto Pond in the foreground. The light of the stars was excellent, and the many colours that my camera managed to capture in the air and on the mountains were astounding. Thanks for looking!
More Bermuda grass from our yard taken this morning. (Thanks for sharing the name of this in your comment yesterday Kevin! (AmbientFocus)
Hope you're all having a nice weekend.

Chromatic Pool in Upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park. The pool is linked to nearby Beauty Pool, so that when the water level of one pool drops, the other rises.
The Coyote Buttes area is best known for its wonderful sandstone stripes and layering, but there is also a beautiful area of bentonite hills within the wilderness area (South unit). The colors in the hills are unlike any others I've seen, with prominent yellows, pinks, and purples. One of the hills is capped with numerous small rounded pebbles, probably of riverine origin, adding to the geological mysteries of the area.
