I don't often think to use this crazy wide angle zoom lens but when I do the results are often wonderful.

Ok, yeah, I know I'm early for Valentine's Day. Early, you say? Yeah, early for 2020. I had all these great ideas in my head, but, couldn't pull the trigger. It's been a suckie two weeks. Found out from a former student who now works with me, that two people I thought I knew, were not even close to who I thought they were. Then, last Wednesday, I slipped on developing ice outside the doors at work, fell hard, and hit my head on the border/paving stones serving as retainers on the flower bed. Dang, that hurt. Way more painful than when I broke my face back in 97, or took the softball off the chin in 94, dislocating my jaw. After shaking off the cobwebs, but, not the headache, I got up, and went back inside to call my wife. After asking someone to put some melter down, I started back to my car. You probably know where this is going. lol Yeah, slipped and fell again, at the exact same spot. This time, I hurt my knee. I was SO freaking mad at my stupidity. Drove to the hospital (only about three minutes away), and my wife met me there, after my son drove her. (It's only about three minutes from our house. Small town. lol) Long story short, there is an upside to having a head injury when you go to the hospital. You get seen by a Dr. much faster. lol In the end, I had a concussion, and needed to stay in a darkened room, with no screens for 24hs!!! I've got residual nausea, headache, anxiety, difficulty chewing, and fatigue. Fortunately, the blow to the head was on the right side. I don't think the reconstructed face on the left would have held out from a blow this hard. So much other bad news I got this week, has left me feeling quite carped out.

Was invited at this festival in Xiamen on saturday sponsored by Pepsi in a university campus. A huge bunch of canvases put up for the students to paint on. Anyhow they had a graff section and along with many writers and I was asked to paint along as a guest. Was fun, once again got a chance to mingle with the chinese writers. We where supposed to start at 9am and paint till 5pm but I finished around noon so I spent most of the day going around and talking and taking flicks. Enjoyed it. Big up to X-mark for organising this.

I improvised this piece in the same kind of vibe as my last one. As all we had was chinese local cans so I decided not to try that thin O again ... wouldve been too much of a hassle, did a squarish faded one instead and added my handcan rocking up pepsi. Aizer, a Uk writer living in china, was painting besides me and got a hold of some ironlaks, which was cool as it enabled me to add the lights with the white.

When possible, I prefer photographing hummingbirds in natural light, which makes for a more natural looking image with depth of field, layers, and natural backgrounds. In the desert, getting 1/4000 of a second is no problem, and plenty fast for freezing hummer wings. This shot from an Arizona Photo Tour a couple years ago.
