A couple of more hummingbird photo just because they are willing to pose for me. I enjoy watching them chase each other and even a few other birds. West Valley Area, Yakima County, Washington.IMG_9843

There are five Black-chinned females that usually visit the back yard. So far, this is the only variety this season - once the Rufous show up, the others usually leave. Less commonly, there are visits from Broad-tailed and/or Calliope Hummingbirds.

Out in Norfolk at sunrise today but the very strong wind (despite blue skies all day) meant birds were few and far between.

So am resorting to shots from Costa Rica again. I took about 60k shots so have to do something with them!

Black-chinned Hummingbirds are dull metallic green on the back and grayish-white underneath. The males have a black throat with a thin iridescent purple base, and the females have a pale throat and white tips on the tail feathers
