Archilochus alexandri shot handheld from the upper deck of my home. The purple iridescence at his throat is clearly shown. It distinguishes him from the ruby-throat. Both birds appear to have a black collar unless the light is at the right angle.

The American alligator is a large crocodilian reptile endemic to the southeastern United States. Adult male American alligators measure 11 to 15 ft in length and can weigh up to 999 lbs. Females are smaller measuring around 9.8 ft. The American alligator inhabits freshwater wetlands such as marshes and cypress swamps from Texas to North Carolina. It is distinguished from the sympatric American crocodile by its broader snout, with overlapping jaws and darker coloration, and is less tolerant of saltwater but more tolerant of cooler climates than the American crocodile, which is found only in tropical climates.
Alligators are apex predators and consume fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Subsequent conservation efforts have allowed their numbers to increase and the species was removed from the endangered species list in 1987. The species is the official state reptile of three states: Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi U.S.A.

Ex East Midlands Trains now DATS (Data Acquisition & Testing Services) Class 43 HST Power Car 43 066 arrives into Chinnor Station on the morning of 2nd April. The Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway had brought in two of these DATS Class 43s for the spring diesel gala. However, 43 054 failed no sooner than it arrived leaving 43 066 to hold up one end of the SR EMU consist. On the 2nd April it ran with 50 008 on the rear end. And when the 31 failed it did an extra run leaving the 37 to soldier on alone to run around it's train at Princes Risborough.
I was sitting on the platform for this shot trying to keep out of everyone's way and it came out better than I thought. The Mrs looks on sitting on the platform bench in the sunshine. Needless to say the Class 43 consist was the more popular of the two trains running. Every time the HST power car was stopped at the platform a queue of people would form for a cab visit and by the end of the gala the horn will probably be worn out!

Village de Baojin, province de Guizhou, Chine
Ce jour là, c'est jour de fête à Baojin, un village authentique du peuple Dong. La fête de Sanyuesan. a lieu le 3e jour du 3e mois lunaire. Des centaines de Dongs ont revêtu leur plus bel habit et ont convergé vers le petit village dominé par les piliers de l'autoroute récemment ouverte à la circulation. Ils vont participer aux diverses cérémonies traditionnelles dans une ambiance chaleureuse et bon-enfant. Quelques touristes chinois, pas d'Occidentaux, à part nous.
L"ethnie Dong forte d'environ trois millions d'individus, est particulièrement bien représentée au Guizhou. Longtemps isolée dans un environnement difficile, elle a développé une culture dont l'un des éléments essentiels est le chant.

During our visit to the Pantanal we encountered several species of spinetails with the most frequently seen being the Yellow-chinned Spinetail. This Yellow-chinned Spinetail was the first one I saw during the trip and was a bit of a photo bomb. I was trying to follow another bird as it moved through the brush and was really struggling. Then all of a sudden this brown blob appeared in my viewfinder and when it came into focus this is what I saw, what a surprise!

Phoenix, AZ. Finally! These little Black-chinneds are so skittish and next to impossible to get shots of with their purple collars showing but he gave me a few seconds today. These guys live in my yard from March to August every year. They are smaller and flightier than the Anna's.
