Hummingbird in my backyard. They have been very active recently. I have Rufous, Anna's and Black-chinned Hummingbirds now but the Rufous and Black-chined will be flying south soon. was lucky to get all 3 species in a single day. Many are likely flying south now. Some of the Anna's will stay all winter. West Valley area, Yakima County, Washington. IMG_9788

Metroline BDE2647 (LJ19CVX) turns on to the B4009 Chinnor Road at the Lambert Arms Cross Roads, Aston Rowant, on the 2020 Showbus flyby event.
I'm guessing that this bird is a juvenile male due to the spotting pattern under its chin, the aggressive territorial behavior, and the darker features than the obvious young females. Fun to watch!
Black-chinned Mountain Tanager
Large and colorful tanager of Andean cloud forest in western Ecuador and western Colombia. Plumage is golden-yellow with a black head, blue wing patch, and yellow stripe on rear crown. Separated from the more common Blue-winged Mountain-tanager by yellow back, orange tinge to underparts, black chin, smaller crown stripe, and less blue in wing. Usually encountered in pairs or small groups that move through middle levels of the forest, often with mixed-species flocks. Visits feeders in some areas.

Palmer Park, Colorado Springs, CO
Small, fast-flying parakeet of humid lowlands on the Pacific slope. Favors forest patches and fairly open country with hedges and tall trees, including towns and villages. Usually seen in pairs or small flocks; associates readily at fruiting and flowering trees with much larger and longer-tailed Orange-fronted Parakeet. Flight is distinctively bounding, not direct like larger parakeets. Plumage is green overall with bronzy shoulders; small orange chin patch is very hard to see.

Photographed at my home, Yakima County, Washington. The smallest hummingbird I will see here in Washington State. This is a male.

Tri-colored Heron juvenile ~ St. Augustine, Florida
In the Wild ~ In the Nest ~ Northern Florida U.S.A.
*[left-double-click for a closer-look - that face!]
*[surprisingly they turn deep-blue as an adult]
The Tricolored or Louisiana Heron does not swim but wades in deep water. Audubon called this bird "Lady of the Water" because of its grace and beauty. It resembles the Great Blue Heron but is much smaller and more delicate. Its white belly clearly distinguishes it from all other Herons. It strides briskly through the water, sometimes running after fish and catching them with a thrust of the bill. This action is so fast that it can only be caught with a shutter speed of 1/4000th of a second! Their chicks have a reddish coat but turn blue with age. The name Louisiana Heron is very misleading because
it also lives in coastal states from North Carolina to Texas, and especially in Florida. ~ A Very Elegant Bird ~ Fun To Observe
