after a long hiatus... going for the familiar and known. nothing new here. still I didn't completely disappoint myself.
BNSF 3013, formerly a CB&Q GP40 but now a GP25M (whatever the hell that is) leads LCHI105 west at Lemont.
I've been collecting for about 2 years, but not until this year was when I really started getting unique and cool stuff. A lot of this stuff was traded for. I've only made 1-2 CB orders. Anyhow, very pleased with Citizen Brick's quality and hope to get more!
The East End of the CB&Q ran from Aurora Tower at the Station (both long gone) through western Chicago Suburbs to Union Avenue Tower (long gone) at the west end of the wye south of Chicago Union Station. The East-End Way Freight worked most of that territory. I lived in Westmont, one of those suburbs in the 1950s and 60s and took many pictures of that Way freight. Here are three for starters.

A Western Wind Wheel, Texas Wheel, also called Western Wind Mill, or American Windmill, is a lattice-mast, multi-bladed windmill with a wind direction tracking flag. This type of wind turbine, which was developed in North America during the second half of the 19th century, was and is mainly used as a pumping station drive (wind pump) for irrigation and drainage, and later also for power generation. Another application is the aeration of fish ponds via a diaphragm or air bellows pump at the top of the mast of the windmill.

Last week we met up with Sean Bagshaw and Raynor Czerwinski for a hike near Crested Butte (both awesome dudes), the light towards Mt. Crested Butte wasn't grabbing my attention so I switched my focus to these red mountains and quickly found some columbines for a foreground element.
I focus stacked 30 images (overkill but it helped with the moving flowers) in Zerene stacker after Photoshop failed with the movement.
We will be headed to the San Juans this week to chase more wildflowers!

The saltwater crocodile, also known as the saltwater crocodile, is the largest crocodile alive today, followed by the Nile crocodile. It is a species of real crocodiles. Like American crocodiles, saltwater crocodiles can live in both salt and fresh water.

The Q bought its early F-unit in ABBA sets. Being a flatlander railroad it discovered for trains of the day it needed only three units. So it broke the ABBA sets in half and added an F7A to each half. Nice solution!

CB&Q Blackbird GP7 218 built Sept. 1951 became BN 1574 and retired Aug. 1983 with the East End Way Freight in Westmont, IL on July 15, 1966.
Well, not quite. Let me explain.
CB&Q 9960C & 9960B are seen working the eastbound tracks in Eola Yard on September 1, 1964. In the photo the 3-track race track is above them. The westbound yard above that.
This F3A and B were part of three sets of ABA F3s bought in 1947 for new California Zephyr because the WP and DRG&W were going to use F units. Because they did not fit well into the E-unit rotation the Q used for intercity and suburban passenger trains, they were regeared for freight operation and their steam generators were removed. They retainwed their passenger diesel 9900 series number. However, in this lashup, the third unit is an F7A.
But it's more fun to think of them in their glory zephyring the CZ in the middle of the night to reach Chicago or Denver on the morrow.
I bet that's how they thought of themselves that September day.
