Ancient theater of Dodoni
The ancient theater of Dodoni in Epirus is one of the largest and best preserved ancient greek theaters. The capacity of the theater is 18,000 spectators. The theater of Dodoni was part of the Panhellenic sanctuary of Dodoni and was constructed in the 3rd century B.C. by King Pyrros of Epirus (297-272 B.C.) who wanted to decorate the areas of his kingdom with architectural monuments and buildings. At the same time the small theater ancient Amvrakia was constructed. The hollow of the theater of Dodoni was placed at the foot of Mount Tomaros in a natural cavity to take advantage of the sloping terrain, which was the usual practice in the construction of ancient greek theaters. The orchestra of the theater is not a complete cycle and has a larger diameter 18.70 m.
The theater suffered successive disasters, reconstructions and formations in the centuries that followed the decline of the kingdom of Epirus and during the Roman conquest was used as an arena. From the 4th century AC ceased to function. The first excavations and restorations of the ancient site of Dodoni began in 1875 and continue until today. nowadays the theater of Dodoni hosts some performances during the summer months. The ancient theater Dodoni is located 22 km from Ioannina.

Lake Powell is an artificial reservoir on the Colorado River in Utah and Arizona, United States. It is the second largest artificial reservoir by maximum water capacity in the United States behind Lake Mead, storing 24,322,000 acre-feet (3.0001×1010 m3) of water when full. However, due to high water withdrawals for human and agricultural consumption, and because of subsequent droughts in the area, Lake Mead has fallen below Lake Powell in size several times during the 21st century in terms of volume of water, depth and surface area.
Lake Powell is named for Civil War veteran Major John Wesley Powell, who explored the Green and Colorado rivers in 1869 down through Grand Canyon. In August, 1869, Powell and his eight companions passed through the site of present day Glen Canyon Dam. Extending nearly one-third of a mile across from canyon rim to rim, the dam created the reservoir known as Lake Powell.
On the right hand side above the horizon is probably Tower Butte, which is a 5,287-foot (1,611 meter) elevation sandstone summit located south of Lake Powell, in northern Arizona. It is situated 9 miles (14 km) northeast of the town of Page.
This was taken at Wahweap Viewpoint near Page, Arizona, after viewing the Horseshoe Bend of the Grand Canyon before moving on to Zion National Park in Utah.

Teatro Municipal, Almagro, Ciudad Real, Castilla-La Mancha, España.
The Municipal Theatre – formerly the Principal Theatre – in Almagro is a cosy and beautiful “bonbonniere” housed in a neoclassical building from the end of the 19th century, where the Festival audience can enjoy the classics inside an Italian-style theatre.
Since its inauguration in 1865, it has become the centre of Almagro’s cultural life, hosting plays, zarzuelas, musical concerts and even hosting the first film screenings to the amazement of neophyte spectators. During the first half of the 20th century, it was used as a cinema and by the end of the 1960s its condition was sadly lamentable. Incorporated into the Rehabilitation Programme for 19th Century Spanish Theatres, the architect Miguel Fisac was in charge of its restoration in 1988 with modifications and improvements that culminated in 2006, and since then, it has been one of the most beloved and emblematic stages of the Festival.
Its romantic façade is organised on two floors that do not correspond in height to the interior development. The stalls, with a capacity for 244 spectators, are horseshoe-shaped and are situated on a three-storey structure. The boxes on the first floor are accessed by side stairs that lead to a rest room located above the entrance hall, while on the second floor the public is distributed in a stand, from which they can contemplate the ceiling paintings – not original – that represent the muses of the performing arts: Thalia, goddess of comedy; Melpomene, goddess of tragedy; Thersicore, goddess of Dance and Music and Polyhymnia, goddess of Lyric Poetry.

Route 31 can be a fairly busy route connecting East Craigs and Corstorphine in the west and heading south towards Lasswade, Bonnyrigg and Polton Mill.
Hopefully a sign that XLB's could become a more regular sight on this route maybe. Lothian City 1082 almost at the end of its working to East Craigs. 07th April 2019.
Reaching fully operational capacity in 2015, NATO's Medium Extended Air Defense System (or MEADS, for short) quickly replaced the PATRIOT as the western world's primary strategic ground-based air defense system. The program was developed by a multinational team consisting of the Americans, British, French, and Germans, and was designed to address the shortcomings of existing systems across the Alliance, as well as permitting full interoperability between US and allied forces.
MEADS provides a unique mix of ground-mobile air and missile defense against a broad array of adversary capabilities. Greater interoperability, mobility, and a fully 360-degree detection and engagement bubble proves a significant improvement over legacy systems. Designed to accompany both maneuver units, or protect static, high-value targets, MEADS offers the flexibility that no other western system previously could. Truck-mounted system components drive or roll on and off C-130 and A-400M transport aircraft, and are quickly deployable to any theater of operations.
The minimum requirement to engage a hostile target is only one launcher, one Battle Management TOC, and one Fire Control Radar. As more system elements arrive, they automatically and seamlessly join the MEADS network in a "plug-and-fight" fashion. Because fewer system assets are needed, it permits a substantial reduction in deployed personnel, equipment, or airlift capacity.
By the outbreak of the Second Eastern European War in June 2016, only the United States and German contingents of ZEUS fielded full MEADS batteries. The "plug-and-fight" capability of the system allowed German launcher units to be controlled by the first American Battle Management truck that was forward deployed, rapidly expanding the air defense coverage zone. As the conflict escalated and NATO became more involved in supporting Ukrainian, Slovakian, and Bulgarian forces, these units were able to deploy to the Alliance's southern flank in Czechia within days. By mid-December, Yugoslav advance into Bulgaria had been significantly curtailed by allied airstrikes. With the conflict rapidly turning against the aggressors, NATO leadership grew increasingly concerned about potential retaliatory strikes by Yugoslavia's considerable conventional ballistic missile arsenal. Although the threat never materialized, German and British MEADS units both had successes against enemy Cikavak Alpha helicopters that would conduct hit and run attacks across the border, downing three enemy aircraft by the close of the conflict.

The Ford Corsair 120E was designed by Elwood Engel and initially launched at the 1963 London Motorshow for the 1964 model year, as a replacement for the Consul Classic and was essentially a long wheelbase re-skinned Cortina (the windscreen with much of the internal panelling was the same). The Corsair had unusual and quite bold styling for its day, with a sharp horizontal V-shaped crease at the very front of the car into which round headlights were inset giving the car an aerodynamic appearance in a simular manner to the German Ford Taunus and American Ford Thunderbird. The 120E featured a 1500cc S4 single carburettor Kent engine.
There was also a GT model with the same engine mated to a dual choke Weber carburettor instead of the standard cars Solex carb.
The range was revised in September 1965, as the Corsair V4 adopting new Ford Essex V4 engines, originally available with a capacity of 1663cc, also available from 1966, a larger 2.0-litre L version

The Olympic Tower in the Olympic Park, Munich was built for the 1972 Summer Olympics. It has an overall height of 291 m and a weight of 52,500 tons. At a height of 190 m there is an observation platform as well as a small rock and roll museum housing various memorabilia, which is signposted as "Rock Museum" outside the entrance. Since its opening in 1968, the tower has registered over 35 million visitors (as of 2004). At a height of 182 m there is a revolving restaurant, which seats 230 people. A full revolution takes 53 minutes. The tower also serves as a broadcast tower, and has one Deutsche Telekom maintenance elevator with a speed of 4 m/s, as well as two visitor lifts with a speed of 7 m/s which have a capacity of about 30 people per car. The travel time is about 30 seconds. The tower is open daily from 09:00 to 24:00.
Mist. Dictionary definition: "Something you'd see a lot more of if you didn't have the capacity to sleep through a modestly sized apocalyptic event as if nothing were happening. Try getting out of bed early one morning and you might see what you're missing."
Ok, that's not quite what the dictionary says - not the one on my bookshelf anyway. But it would help if I wasn't so lamentably bad in the mornings. If uninterrupted sleep is available then I tend to remain oblivious to the world until getting out of bed is compulsory. On every working day of my life, breakfast is always taken at my desk as I stare sullenly at my emails and pray nobody asks me any difficult questions until at least 10:30. There are studies that suggest I'm not lazy - it's just that my body cycle is out of kilter with the conventions of the world around me. Really I'm just lazy. I know it, even if the clever bods who work on these studies look to excuse my morose glare at anyone who tries to enter my office before I've brewed my first coffee.
So because of this inability to fit in with the rest of society, I don't get to see mist very often, because it generally appears in the morning. I might see it when I'm making the 4 mile journey to work, but by then the opportunity to stand and stare at the silhouettes of distant trees in the gloom has passed. But over the last couple of evenings the air has been still and the mist has returned at the close of the day, and yesterday I resolved to seize the opportunity.
I almost missed my chance though. As I arrived home the mist appeared to be clearing, and I found myself gazing out into the garden feeling undecided, reaching for the remote and "Richard Osman's House of Games" on BBC2. Those of you who aren't in Britain or the Irish Republic, or those of you with interesting lives who do inhabit these countries will have little idea what I'm talking about here. Suffice to say it's a gentle tea time quiz show presented by a genial and gentle humoured giant of a host with no great riches at stake. Within minutes I was fast asleep. Half and hour later consciousness returned along with the gathering mist, and so out I went for an entire half mile in the car - well daylight time was running out you see, and we've already established that I'm lazy.
And this is how I found myself at Unity Woods, a handful of acres of scrub oak with twisting trunks and a maze of secret paths. To add to the sense of eeriness the place is riddled with old mineshafts, a legacy of the tin mining history which once made the area I live in the richest on earth. Ironic that now it's one of the poorest regions in Europe. A number of mineshafts are capped, but there are warnings at each entry to the woods to stay on the paths, lest the unwary visitor inadvertently stumble into another one and disappear 400ft into the bowels of the earth.
What's delightful about this place is the absolute silence you can find. Only the odd mountain biker, dog walker or horse rider passes through this way, or me and my friends when it's my turn to host the Sunday morning pre-breakfast trail run. Last night I saw only 3 people - all of them mountain bikers, although the third one managed to pass by when after not seeing a single soul for more than 45 minutes I decided that the call of nature wasn't going to wait until I went home. Why does that always seem to happen?
Eventually I found myself at the clearing above the local cycle trail, looking down on the lone tree that I always notice when I'm below it on my own mountain bike. The stillness was absolute. A murder of unseen crows broke the silence in the mist somewhere overhead as they made for their nests in the approaching darkness. It was about as perfect as these moments can be. The sort of evening you know you're going to remember the sensation of being there for a long time, made the more delightful by it being right on your home turf. Just wonderful.
And then I realised I needed to get back to the car, through the mysterious twisted wood in the darkness. On my own. Carrying a bag full of expensive camera gear. Accompanied by unexplained and invisible rustling in the undergrowth around me. Probably squirrels or a badger, or maybe even a deer. The fact that I look like the missing Mitchell brother didn't completely dispel the sense of unease either and I was relieved to emerge from the canopy without a band of brigands at my heels. Of course the small car park had two vehicles in addition to my own - one empty and the other occupied by a furtive looking couple, but then again those of you who read my comet tales in July will testify that I'm getting used to this sort of thing. Nobody can see you blushing in the darkness in any case.

PJM CAPACITY NEWS:
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved new capacity performance requirements this month. This marks the largest change to PJM’s capacity market its design in 2006. The ruling allows for little exceptions for resources that fail to perform during the few hours of “emergency conditions” that are determined each year. However, this does give generators the ability to charge more for capacity even though they are not improving the grids reliability. In other words, generators will gain more revenue even if they do nothing during emergency conditions.
The ruling comes on the heals of the extremely cold winter of 2013-2014. During that winter, 22% of the PJM’s capacity failed in a single day causing millions in uplift payments. The PJM is bracing for the worst, expecting coal plant retirements over the next few years will create further reliability issues.
ISO-NE CAPACITY NEWS:
The New England Independent System Operator is reporting that the growing market for renewable energy is helping to keep the average cost of electricity down. It is currently expecting 2,400 MW of solar generation to be available by 2024. That coupled with more than 800 MW of wind being utilized as of the end of last year has helped to keep cost low.
However, according to the ISO, traditional generation is being forced to charge higher capacity costs to make up for the lost revenue due to renewables. The more that solar and wind generation becomes available the more financial pressure is put on coal and nuclear.
THE RUB:
The balance of energy demand with energy supply is one of the most important objectives of an energy system. Capacity markets are designed to ensure that there are enough electricity capacity resources to serve customers on the hottest and coldest days of the year.
The news outlined above regarding 2 of the major capacity markets in the U.S. is a mixed bag. Despite new rules for one and additional resources for the other, customers can expect more of the same.
Higher prices.
