Millefiori canes and uncured/unfiished polymer clay buttons, meant to coordinate with the Painted Mums print from Heather Bailey's Freshcut fabric collection. Blogged here.

I wanted to start a 365 photo challenge and today's subject was buttons. This was my favorite. I love that something as simple as a button can become so creative.

Vintage Mother-of-Pearl buttons (with a few vintage plastic thrown in for good measure).

Photographed on light table

More beautiful buttons. Its almost a shame to use them.. As my friend says, "Its the thrill of the hunt rather than the kill."

This series is of some little shortbread buttons I made for my baby shower (in March 08 - I'm a bit behind in uploading ;-p). Topped with pink and blue tinted white chocolate (as we chose to keep the sex of our baby a surprise). We now have our darling little girl, Lucia, who whilst in-utero was named Button!

I got a bit out of control with the processing of these photos - I wanted to try every possible variation! I've narrowed it down to 2-3 variations of each to upload here. I think the simplest ones ended up looking the best.

This afternoon I sorted out my button collection. No longer will I have to rummage at the bottom of my sewing box to find them.

A custom order that I recently finished. I have done buttons in the past but not for a long time. They are to be used in a bracelet.

These are sterling silver with a floral patterned brass overlay. Both disks are cupped with the larger sterling disk measuring 5/8" in diameter and the smaller brass disk coming in at 1/2". The holes measure about 2 mm.

Harry Potter Buttons I made for me and my friends.

Inspired by Adorn magazine's Button article in the Summer '07 issue, I made these button brooches/pendants. I was totally hoarding buttons so it's great to have used a bunch. I had to make mine symmetrical, not random. They've got multiple loops on the back so I can affix/hang them in different ways. I used both wire and colored (matching) hot glue. And the backs are covered in felt.

Cheyenne is starting little Buttons, getting him used to human contact and being touched. He was very nervous at first, but he is now much more relaxed and starting to trust her. This is going to take a bit of time because Buttons is 98% wild, and has had very little human contact. In five days he has gone from panicking over everything, to trusting her to tickle his muzzle, and to eat from a bucket she is holding (this entails him putting his eye close to her hand, which requires a great deal of trust on his part.) Well done Buttons and Cheyenne!

I couldn't resist. Here is "Buttons", actually an angora goat and not a llama (mainly because I didn't have a photo of a llama).

Love you guys. Thanks for the laughs. You're all awesome! Have a great day!

I'd forgotten how I love the heavier Arches paper. It is so cooperative. I plan to treat each button as a separate little painting. They all are so different that they need individual treatment anyhow. I'm also trying to work my way across the paper without smudging the pencil sketch that took so long to complete. I've used some salt in three of the buttons to make them look textured. So far, this is a lot of fun!

A bunch of buttons that I made. This is the vector art to fit 1.25" buttons

lovely buttons that I bought from the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, made by Mary Goldberg

Someone had to sort all the colorful buttons - Sabrina was the lucky one. The Crafty Rat associate, carefully sorts one by one. Sabrina is a Poppy Parker 2012 "Chauffer's Daughter" doll and has absolutely no repaint. She belongs to my sister bogostick on flickr and you can see more of this adorable doll at the bogostick photostream.
