name: Button Hopscotch
made for: E
size: 7
status: Completed
date completed: October, 28, 2013

3/4" button. Tarnished silver rim; metal back and shank; glass or plastic cover. Information regarding this button was obtained from the California State Button Society. A collector there had a similar button The button she had with this pose was a white egret on a black background. Presumably, this bird was made in pink for contrast against the white background. The collector said she was told that the button was made from hummingbird feathers, South American in origin, circa early 1960s. The hummingbirds are now endangered or protected and it is apparently illegal to import these buttons today.
