Purchased at an estate sale in good vintage condition. Plastic button measures 1 1/2" in diameter. 1/4 inch thick including shank
I ran one of the ends through half of every other selvedge stitch all the way around and then drew it in tight. See my knitting blog for more details.
Brought home the family button tin when we cleared Mum's house last year. Mr'icks wanted a button so I opened up the treasure trove, then spent ages looking at the buttons. Amazing how small circular bits of plastic and metal can bring back memories. Most of these buttons were used as tokens when we played the Little Grey Rabbit card game.
Intact support post is seen on the upper left. Places where posts have broven off are highlighted by red arrows. Center post that activates the horn is circled in green.
This building once was a button factory on the Milwaukee River in Waubeka, WI .
Freshwater clam shells were used before buttons were made from plastic.
We used buttons in a lot of places: our invites, our welcome bags and our escort/seating cards. The pictures of the cowboys corresponded with each table.

These are so simple to make, but highly addictive, not to mention super cute!

Ever seen a button tree? Well now you have. This lovely felt button tree has been appliquéd onto an awesome bag made from a vintage pillowcase. The pillowcase fabric features a picturesque dogwood forest in the bloom of spring. The bag has also been embellished with a spattering of hand beading and buttoning. It is lined with a shiny red fabric which contrasts in a bold and beautiful way with the the grass green of the outer fabric.
The bag measures about 10 inches tall and 8 inches across. The shoulder strap / handle is about 22 inches long, making it rest around your waist.
Fabric Knot Buttons.
From hand made ribbon:
I hand cut, heat sealed all edges, rolled and heat secured these strips of matterial for home made rolled fabric ribbons.
Knotted and glued securely into place. The crafter will sew the back side of the button directly to their project.
Made with vintage thread.
Shank on back if you want to sew it on.
Usually I just sew through the middle directly but as this thread is a bit thicker than I usually use for this button size (1.5cm) I thought I would try this shank and I think it works quite well.
