The same bullfrog that was sitting on the rock with the baby painted turtle. The look on its face may have to do with all the flea/gnat-type insects feasting on its frog blood. Of course, should one of those little bloodsuckers happen to fly in front of the frog's face, it's payback time!

I was nestled in the mud and reeds along the shoreline of a local wetland, monitoring a small flock of Ring-necked Ducks and hoping one might drift my way, when a Bullfrog swam up to the shore and reversed into a hiding place, camouflaged and ready to eat what comes.

This species is a relentless predator, eating pretty much any living thing it can swallow. It is designated as an invasive species in parts of Canada because, as it moves (or is moved) to new locations it outcompetes (and eats) any other local frog population. It is a native species here, and if it weren’t for the many Heron species controlling them they would rule the water even more.

American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus). Wildwood Lake, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Two days ago a friend of mine was talking about frogs eating frogs. I never had the opportunity to witness this behaviour and after that conversation, I made a point to check Bullfrogs just in case. Well, two days later, it just happened in front of me. A bit far for my reach and it had already consumed most of the frog but it did not matter to me. If it wasn't of that conversation, I would have probably not seen this. Tx Michael Cummings :o)

Wow...the bullfrogs were all over...just too far away to see many...this one was close enough to photograph and get a good glimpse of the wake made while calling!

It was one of those days in the park with little wildlife around. Eventually I found this big male bullfrog sitting in a portrait pose.
