Bullfrog - this one was about 8” long (body) and I would say weighed easily 1 lb. Native to Eastern North America, these frogs are commonly regarded as a food source.

American Bullfrog in my pond
Going through my older files trying to get more organization, I came across this Bullfrog image and I thought I would share with my Flickr friends
I've been hearing these frogs at night, but I haven't seen any...yet to get any pictures!
Thanks for viewing, your comment and Faves-I greatly appreciate them!
If you look closely in the frogs eye, you can see the silhouettes of my friends Karen and Steve, as well as myself. Wildwood Park, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Saw this pied-billed grebe with what I thought was a fish, but later saw that it is a bullfrog tadpole/polliwog. The grebe eventually downed it.
This bullfrog came up near the dock at Commonwealth Lake, and held position for a good 5 minutes before moving on.
I stopped by Commonwealth Lake today, and this bull frog was making its way from the main lake to one of the side ponds. Drew a small, socially spaced crowd.

I would say that photographing this view was one of my top three reasons for moving to Northern California. The entire experience including the hike, camping under the stars and capturing this shot was definitely a highlight during my time here.

I was off yesterday, wasn't feeling too well so I will try to catch up with everyone's photos as soon as I can!
The American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus), often simply known as the bullfrog in Canada and the United States, is a large true frog native to eastern North America. It typically inhabits large permanent water bodies such as swamps, ponds, and lakes. Bullfrogs can also be found in man made habitats such as pools, koi ponds, canals, ditches and culverts. The bullfrog gets its name from the sound the male makes during the breeding season, which sounds similar to a bull bellowing. The bullfrog is large and is commonly eaten throughout its range, especially in the southern United States where they are plentiful.
Their presence as a food source has led to bullfrogs being distributed around the world outside of their native range. Bullfrogs have been introduced into the Western United States, South America, Western Europe, China, Japan, and southeast Asia. In these places they are invasive species due to their voracious appetite and the large number of eggs they produce, having a negative effect on native amphibians and other fauna. Bullfrogs are very skittish which makes capture difficult and so they often become established.
I came across this American Bullfrog this morning at Tower Grove Park in St. Louis, Missouri, USA and we both froze and conducted a mutual staredown until the sunlight peeked over the trees to light up her face so I could get the shot I wanted. After our brief photo shoot I succumbed to the staredown master and left her to enjoy the rest of the morning in private.
