The Orpheum Theater first opened in 1913 as a Vaudeville house. Today, it is a Community Playhouse showcasing plays and concerts.

The Elms has been shut down since 2003. The sign looks pretty good but the poor house has significantly deteriorated.

The bulbs in the arrow still flash in sequence.

Edit 2019: Still there. Looks like it's been repainted, had the plastic panels replaced, and the bulbs removed.

The gorgeous Slipper was saved by The Neon Museum and is now located in the center of the street on North Las Vegas Blvd., near the museum. It lights up every night! Here's a photo of how it looks today!

Another sign that was saved was a "Free Parking" sign from the property. It's now displayed at the entrance to a parking lot in Beatty, Nevada. Here's a photo of how it looks today!

A recent blog post says that the restaurant will close as well, although it doesn't cite any specific sources and gives no closing date.

The sign for the 61 Motel on Highway 23 (formerly US 61) north of downtown Sandstone, Minnesota.

The now-defunct Hong Kong Restaurant once featured a great arrow sign on 4th Avenue East in downtown Hibbing, Minnesota.

903 W Garner Rd.

Originally a '50s drive-in. Supposedly the name came from the fact that you were supposed to toot your horn and tell the carhop what you wanted. Now primarily a country style buffet. Over the years, the restaurant has been added on to so many times that it's something of a maze of interconnected dining rooms.

Neon sign at Archie's Pizza, it looked like the business had recently closed at the time I took the picture.

No trace of a miniature golf course except for the sign. All that was here was a giant weedy parking lot and a lot of undeveloped land.

Formerly Barry's Cut Rate Drugs. The neon spelling out "Cut Rate" has been removed and the letters on the sign painted over.

FINALLY got a choice evening shot of this Ogden Avenue relic. Not an easy shot to grab--owners seem to be able to detect interlopers with radar! Unfortunately, the arrow bulbs don't light up.

The sign for Robson Hardware stands on West 12th Street (Old US Route 16) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A hallmark of great design, the Lu Fran Motel on Ocean Ave. in Wildwood NJ. It is perhaps the only remaining porcelain neon sign on the island. The name is a takeoff of the original owner's names, a common occurence there and was once owned by a former mayor of Wildwood. The sign has since been painted a more appealing color combination of turquoise, pink & yellow pastels.

Clifton used to have an underground bar called the Cave dug into the side of a mountain. Originally a storage tunnel for a bar on Chase Creek (Clifton's main street), the tunnel was expanded to include one large room with lots of interconnecting tunnels. The Cave opened in 1933 at the end of Prohibition and evidently was THE happening bar in the '30s and '40s. One of its appeals was that inside the mountain, the temperature stayed a constant 65 degrees. In 1951 the business was moved to its current location, mostly because a family member got tired of having the entrance to the bar in the back yard. These days the entrance to the old bar is still there if you know where to look, and the sign on US 191 that once pointed towards the Cave now also points in the direction of the new Cave.

The Monte Carlo Bar, located in the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District, dates back to 1906 making the bar/restaurant one of the oldest in Minneapolis. The photograph of the sign was taken in 2012. Sometime between 2012 and late 2015, the sign was "updated" by replacing some of the neon with backlit plastic. See the photograph below.
