Pretty much everyone who visits the south of France stops off in Carcasonne. This small town is famous for its absolutely well-preserved medieval old town, with city walls, towers and so on. Unfortunately, you are never alone there and one tourist trap follows another. It's a little quieter in the church, which can easily stand comparison with other places of worship.

The Galleria built between 1865 and 1877 is formed by two arcades shaped like a Latin cross covered by a glass and iron dome. The structure of the Galleria is 32 metres high, comprises 353 tonnes of iron utilised for the skeleton of the cover, and its octagonal-shaped roof reaches a height of 47 metres. If you walk around the galleries, the central dome has a stunning mosaic that represents the continents of Asia, Africa, Europe and America.

One of Quinta de Regaleira's most fascinating feature is located beneath the ground – a pair of wells spiraling deep within the earth. The wells were never used, nor intended for water collection. Instead, these mysterious underground towers were used for secretive initiation rites.
The ‘Initiation Well’ or ‘Inverted Tower’, consist of ‘winding stair’ architecture, which carries symbolic meaning including the death/rebirth allegory common to many hermetic traditions.
The well contains nine platforms, which are said to be “reminiscent of the Divine Comedy by Dante and the nine circles of Hell, the nine sections of Purgatory and the nine skies which constitute Paradise.”

Estructura arquitectónica compuesta por tres arcos de medio punto realizados en ladrillo. Fue una antigua puerta de acceso a la plaza, abierta en el siglo XVIII. Los arcos unen la iglesia de San Esteban con una de las casas de la plaza.

A classic shot of the Pier in Scheveningen with a little twist to it. I love how they have painted al the pillars into rainbow colors. it makes for such a nice sight underneath the pier. And… what do you do when there are no clouds and the sky is boring? Block the sky in this case with a pier! Another image from last weeks visit to the awesome city of #scheveningen

About 5km south of Fort and inland from Kollupitiya, Cinnamon Gardens is Colombo’s most gentrified area. A century ago it was covered in cinnamon plantations. Today it contains elegant tree-lined streets with posh mansions, embassies, stylish cafes and shops, sports grounds and a cluster of museums and galleries. Colombo’s vivid white, domed 1928 Old Town Hall overlooks the area’s heart, Viharamahadevi Park. To the south is the striking Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre, which opened in 2011.
Сингальское слово "Курундувата" в переводе означает "район коричных садов". Название осталось от прежде многочисленных коричных плантаций, располагавшихся на этом месте ранее. The “floating” holiday huts stand on stilts in the local lake, the waters unique because they will not freeze in winter due to heat generated by a nearby power plant. This makes the lake suitable for fishing year round, to the delight of local anglers.

Once it was the main church of Vladimir principality. Its construction was initiated by the glorious Prince Andrei Bogolyubskii in 1158. Its new face the cathedral acquired after the fire of 1185, which had heavily damaged the interior of the church. The heir of Bogolubsky, the Prince Vsevolod the Big Nest, decided to improve the architecture of the cathedral. He surrounded the building by galleries, on the corners of which the new gilded domes appeared. As a result, the cathedral square become even bigger than before and its new look become even more beautiful, more solemn, and more elegant. In 1408 the interior design of the cathedral was taken care by the well-known icon painter, Andrei Rublev and his friend Daniel Chyorny. But unfortunately, the magnificent frescoes have survived only partially: the fires and looting did their work; by the 18th century the cathedral had dilapidated and dreary appearance. Thanks to the restoration of 1888-1891 the Assumption Cathedral received its original look. Today the Assumption Cathedral stands on the top of a high hill and is the integral part of the city’s panorama. The tourists enter through the high tower, which is also a remarkable example of architecture.

Позже в великокняжеском соборе венчали на престол и хоронили великих владимирских князей, для чего собор расширили, надстроили и пышно убрали. Главной реликвией была Владимирская икона Божией Матери, позднее переданная в Москву, и находящаяся ныне в храме при Третьяковской галерее.
В 1238 г. татаро-монгольские войска взяли Владимир. Множество горожан вместе с епископом заперлись в соборе, чтобы не сдаться супостату, но воины хана Батыя подожгли храм, и прихожане задохнулись от дыма. Храм обгорел, часть фресок были утеряны, а реликвии похищены, но в 1408 г. сын Дмитрия Донского — князь Василий — взялся восстановить его.
В 17 веке по указанию императрицы Екатерины II и на ее пожертвования был сделан ремонт храма. Тогда средневековый иконостас заменили на новый, барочный, а в начале 20 века находящиеся на нем иконы работы Рублева отправили в Государственный Русский музей и Третьяковскую галерею.
В некрополе захоронены великие князья и духовенство, некоторые из них — святые великомученики. Здесь покоятся основатель Успенского собора князь Андрей Боголюбский, Всеволод Большое Гнездо, его сын и дочь, мученики Митрофан и Патрикий. Паломники приезжают поклониться к частицам мощей святого Александра Невского — полководца, чьи войска одержали победу над тевтонскими рыцарями на Чудском озере, а также останкам святителей Симона, Максима, Серапиона. Здесь также можно приложиться к иконам Боголюбской, Владимирской, Максимовской Божией Матери (это списки со знаменитых оригиналов).

The Buonconsiglio Castle, splendid residence of the Prince Bishops and symbol of the city of Trento, is made up of different parts built in different ages: an older one, called Castelvecchio, includes Torre Aquila, with the frescoes of the Cycle of the Months, a masterpiece of Gothic art that takes us to the heart of courtly and peasant life at the end of the 14th century. Then there is a Renaissance part, the Magno Palazzo, commissioned by the Prince Bishop Bernardo Cles and richly frescoed, while another wing of the palace, the Giunta Albertiana, is from the Baroque age. During the First World War the trial against the irredentists Cesare Battisti, Fabio Filzi and Damiano Chiesa was held here.

Через 200 лет была надстроена высокая Орлина башня (Torre dell’Aquila) – веяние готики; внутренние росписи башни – сцены времен года – ценнейший памятник готического искусства. В XVI в. к крепости был пристроен Парадный дворец (Magno Palazzo): фронтоны, галереи с колоннадами, росписи на темы античных сюжетов – это уже Ренессанс. Новая пристройка к замку – La Giunta Albertiana с элементами барокко была сделана в XVII.

To be honest, I can't remember which church in Venice it is. There is a smaller or larger place of worship on almost every corner or in every alley. And pretty much all of them are magnificent. So I enjoy the sight of what the artists have created! It's more than amazing and it makes you feel humble when you think about the simple means they used to achieve this.

Two views of the former Head Post Office, Aberdeen. This large mainly granite built structure has frontages on both Dee Street and (facing west) and Crown Street (facing east). It was completed in 1904-1907, but I cannot find a record of when it ceased to have a postal function. It was converted to flats in 1999-2001.
This is the western frontage, facing onto Dee Street, taken just after 6pm on 9 July 2025.

All visitors of Burano remain intrigued by the many colours and the colorful houses that are reflected into the green waters of channels, by the leaning bell tower, by the tranquility and the calmness with which the elderly ladies embroider original Burano lace by their tombolo (or lace pillow), while they are laughing and chatting in squares among them. It seems to be in paradise.
Il villaggio rupestre è situato nell’immediata periferia di Zungri, nel vallone della fiumara Malòpera, sui 490 metri di altitudine. Un centinaio di grotte di varie dimensioni e forme, risalenti sino al Medioevo, sono distribuite in modo disordinato ma sfruttando intelligentemente piccoli pianori e terrazzamenti del costone. Le abitazioni rupestri sorgono accanto ai laboratori artigianali e alle stalle, ai campi coltivati a cereali, ai vigneti e sono collegate dal sistema idrico e dalla viabilità interna. Come in altri casi, il sistema di grotte sul fondo del vallone si pone in stretta relazione con il paese costruito all’aperto più in alto e con il territorio circostante. Скальная деревня расположена в непосредственной близости от Зунгри, в долине реки Малпере, на высоте 490 метров над уровнем моря. Сто пещер разных размеров и форм, относящихся к средневековью, распределяются беспорядочно, но разумно эксплуатируют небольшие равнины и террасы хребта. Планетарий находится в здании Николо-Кремлёвской («желтой») церкви на территории исторического кремля Владимира между Рождественским монастырем и зданием исторического музея. Рядом установлен памятник Александру Невскому.
Собственно Николо-Кремлёвская церковь — памятник архитектуры середины XVIII века. Типичный образец бесстолпного летнего посадского храма. Памятник федерального значения.
