City of Arts and Sciences

The City of Arts and Sciences is a cultural and architectural complex in the city of Valencia, Spain. It is the most important modern tourist destination in the city of Valencia and one of the 12 Treasures of Spain.

Designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela, the project began the first stages of construction in July 1996, and was inaugurated on 16 April 1998 with the opening of L'Hemisfèric.

The Suspension Bridge was built by the French company Claranges Lucotte and Co., and opened to the public in 1843 to fill a need for a permanent bridge between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, replacing the Bridge of Boats. It was said that the bridge, which was officially known as the D. Maria II Bridge, trembled like a reed, and it was this lack of safety that dictated its short 44 years of existence. It had been quickly built because of large floods in Porto that rendered the old Bridge of Boats inoperable. It was deactivated in 1887 and replaced by the D. Luis I Bridge. The two stone obelisk shaped pillars are all that remains of the historic crossing.

The Giza pyramid complex also called the Giza Necropolis, is the site on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt that includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. All were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The site also includes several cemeteries and the remains of a workers' village.

The site is at the edges of the Western Desert, approximately 9 km (5 mi) west of the Nile River in the city of Giza, and about 13 km (8 mi) southwest of the city centre of Cairo.

The Great Pyramid and the Pyramid of Khafre are the largest pyramids built in ancient Egypt, and they have historically been common as emblems of ancient Egypt in the Western imagination. They were popularised in Hellenistic times, when the Great Pyramid was listed by Antipater of Sidon as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is by far the oldest of the ancient Wonders and the only one still in existence.

The Governor’s House was erected on the Volga embankment at the order of the Emperor Alexander I; it served as a residence for the governor and the en route imperial palace. All Russian emperors from Alexander I to Nikolay II visited Yaroslavl and lived in the house. Since 1970 the Governor’s House serves as the main building of the Yaroslavl Art Museum

The side-valley village of Gramais was first chartered in 1427 and lies on an altitude of 1,328 metres. Only one other municipality of Austria is smaller than it.

Near Häselgehr the road branches off to Gramais and it leads along the Otterbachtal valley directly into the small village with its districts Dörfl, Gschwendt and Riefen. Surrounded by steep mountain flanks, Gramais is a true paradise for hikers, mountaineers and nature lovers. Located amidst the Lechtal Alps, the typical mountain village is surrounded by numerous untamed brooks and waterfalls as well as five mountain lakes.

The inner courtyard façade features large arched windows and stained glass.

Just a pedestrian bridge crossing the Saône river in the middle of Lyon. The picture, the mood could also look like this on any day. Unfortunately, the sky was not so beautiful luminous but rather a bit boring and the light was also not ideal. So I replaced the sky in Photoshop, actually a simple process. But one that should be mentioned to be fair.

The picture is from 2014. Taken with a small Pansonic camera. Actually there are three pictures that weren't even taken very congruently. Adope Photoshop and Lightroom, together with the ON1 plug-in, create such an image ..... impressive .... just don't enlarge too much. In spite of everything, the resolution is not that great.

After two years of pandemic and many photos of nature, landscapes, mountains, etc., it was a relief to once again get structures made of steel and glass in front of the lens.

The Circle at Zurich Airport is far from being able to compare with big cities. But for once it was not mountains made of stone, but man-made buildings.

What a relief! :-)
