On strategically so important place towers Trentino’s largest fortress, referred to as Castel Beseno. First written documents date back to the 12th century, when the castle still belonged to the counts of Appiano and served as a residence to the aristocratic family Da Beseno. In the following years and centuries, the castle witnessed a rather turbulent history. In 1470 it was handed over to the counts Trapp, a noble family from Styria affiliated with the Austrian emperor. Soon the castle had to be rennovated due to a fire and the medieval castle turned into a residence. Threatened by decay, the castle was given to the Province of Trento, rennovated and made a remote seat of the Castello del Buonconsiglio Museum. Two mighty elliptical walls featuring a length of 250 and a width of 55 metres surround the castle. Worth seeing are also the dark castle gate, the drawbridge, the crenels and the arena.

The Schellemolen was built in 1867 on the walls of an old wooden mill. There had been a mill for ages at the same place. Traces go back as far as 1267, when Margaret of Constantinople sold its rights. There is an oil-mill inside the windmill.

The Khan's Palace in Bakhchisaray was built in the 16th century and served as a residence for a succession of Crimean Khans. The Crimean Khanate was a Turkic vassal state of the Ottoman Empire from 1478 to 1774 -- the longest-lived of the Turkic khanates that succeeded the empire of the Golden Horde.

London, England - January 5, 2025: Long exposure of traffic on a rainy night on Tower Bridge. Tower Bridge was built between 1886 and 1894 and was designed by Horace Jones. It crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and is one of five London bridges owned and maintained by the City Bridge Foundation, a charitable trust founded in 1282.

Built high above the city of Marseille, the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde! The view of the city and the Mediterranean Sea is spectacular, the climb steep (unless you take the bus). But the interior of the church is equally beautiful, unless you visit it at the same time as the masses of tourists who are regularly unloaded from the cruise ships in the port of Marseille.

A Chapel in Romanesque style, built by miners, dedicated to St. Nikolaus is mentioned in a document dated to 1339. In the fifteenth century, because of the growing population, the chapel was extended and the choir was built in Giothic style. Until 1758 the chapel depended on Matrei am Brenner, than had its own Curate and on the same site, under the direction of Franz de Paula Penz, a new baroque church was built; in 1891 it was elevated to Parish.

I've walked past this waterfall many times and it is usually barely more than a trickle. However, after many days of rain, it can be more interesting.
