During the days of Mobutu Sese Seko's Zaire, the university was a status symbol in what is now the Eastern Congo. Two wars and numerous rebel conflicts later, the university is no longer what it once was. Windows are cracked or knocked out entirely, the electricity has stopped working years ago, and a functioning toilet is no where in sight.

In the heart of Colombo the tallest residential towers around this part of the world -and definitely the tallest in the country- are under construction. Designed by the famous architect Moshe Safdie, Altair, the $ 250-million development project is set to become the city’s new landmark. The structure consists of one 68-level vertical tower and a 64-level sloping one, forming a total living space of 1.5 million ft2 (140 2). The towers meet at level 38.

An unexpected find in the abbey—a dictionary instead of a Bible. While it may seem out of place, this book reflects the abbey’s long history, including its use as a private residence after the French Revolution. The dictionary serves as a symbol of knowledge and learning, which, like faith, was central to monastic life.

At the time of its construction, this was the largest man-made structure in Greenland. Now, it just seems like an average arctic-sized church, close to the coastline. Being a small town of less than 5,000, it's pretty easy to find the church as the whole town is technically walkable.
I say technically because, well, being if you're not used to cold weather you might not appreciate walking around in freezing temperatures for 20-30 minutes at a time. It's surprisingly doable though if you prepare proper clothing, and, the cold doesn't feel as cold when you're in the arctic compared to non-polar latitudes.

The Petronas Towers, also known as the Petronas Twin Towers (in Malay Language: Menara Petronas, or Menara Berkembar Petronas), are twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH)’s official definition and ranking, they were the tallest buildings in the world from the year 1998 to 2004 and remain the tallest twin towers in the world. So the Petronas Towers were the tallest buildings in the world for six years, until Taipei 101 in Taiwan was completed in the year 2004.
The Petronas Towers still remain the tallest twin buildings in the world. The towers feature a double decker skybridge connecting the two towers on the 41st and 42nd floors, which is the highest 2-story bridge in the world. The 88-floor towers are constructed largely of reinforced concrete, with a steel and glass facade designed to resemble motifs found in Islamic art, a reflection of Malaysia’s Muslim religion. The Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace), one of the most interesting example of neoclassical architecture, characterizes the surrounding area. Luigi Cagnola began its construction in 1807 when the city was under Napoleonic rule. It is located at the centre of the large square, Piazza Sempione. It was interrupted after Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo, and then completed by Francis I of Austria who dedicated it to Peace. In his book “A Moveable Feast”, Ernest Hemingway reports the erroneous conviction that the Arco della Pace is aligned with the Arc de Triomphe at the Carousel and the Arc du Triomphe at the Étoile, both in Paris. Originally the enormous group consisting of the chariot and six horses faced France, but after the fall of Napoleon and the advent of the Austrian domination in Milan, the chariot was turned around to face the city centre.

The United States Capitol Building is located in Washington, D.C., at the eastern end of the National Mall on a plateau 88 feet above the level of the Potomac River, commanding a westward view across the U.S. Capitol Reflecting Pool to the Washington Monument 1.4 miles away and the Lincoln Memorial 2.2 miles away.
The Franciscan friary of Irrelagh, known as “Muckross Abbey” was founded for the Observatine Franciscans about 1448, by Daniel McCarthy Mor. The friars remained in occupation at Muckross at least intermittently and despite the dissolution of the monasteries until Cromwellian times. The present well-preserved ruins include a church with a wide, square tower and fine windows, and a vaulted cloister with an arcade of arches around a square courtyard.
