The events that led to construction of the Kazan Cathedral took place in 1612 during the Time of Troubles, following the end of the Rurik dynasty. During this period Polish forces, in supporting claims to the Russian throne, had occupied Moscow. Russian liberation forces on the way to retake Moscow were led by Prince Dmitri Pozharsky and Kuzma Minin from Yaroslavl. They carried with them the Our Lady of Kazan Icon from Yaroslavl. The Russians laid siege to the Poles who occupied the Kremlin and the walled Kitai-gorod area next to the Kremlin. The Poles were soon defeated and retreated from Russia.
Following the expulsion of the Poles, Prince Dmitri credited their victory to the divine help of the Icon of the Theotokos of Kazan. In honor of the icon, and to commemorate the victory over the invaders, Dmitri financed the construction on Red Square of a small wooden church dedicated to the icon. The church was placed in the northeast corner of Red Square as one enters the square through the Resurrection Gate. The wooden church was destroyed by fire in 1632. Tsar Michael directed that the church be replaced. This time it was built of brick. The new church had a single dome and featured a number of tiers of Kokoshniki, a wide gallery, and a tent shaped belfry. Over the years many modifications were made to the church so that its original design was lost. While attempts, by Peter Baranovsky, were made between 1929 and 1932 to restore the exterior of the cathedral to its original appearance, the accuracy of the restorations were questioned.
In 1936, the year of the three hundredth anniversary of the cathedral, the Kazan Cathedral was destroyed as the Bolshevik dictator Joseph Stalin (nee Joseph Vissarionovich Djugashvili) ordered the Red Square cleared of churches so that it could be used for military parades. In addition to the cathedral, the Resurrection Gates. that stood at the entrance to the Red Square, were also demolished so as to not inhibit entry of parade vehicles and armed forces personnel onto the square.
Within the Perestroika initiatives of the late 1980s, a decision was made to re-build the Kazan Cathedral. The reconstruction was conducted under the direction of architect Oleg Zhurin, a pupil of Peter Baranovsky, using Baranovsky’s plans that he had prepared in the early 1930s. Construction began on November 4, 1990, the feast day of the icon, with the laying of the cornerstone by Patriarch Alexei II. Three years later, the restored cathedral was consecrated and reopened on November 4, 1993.

Second shot from my two days with Mark Bauer. We spent quite few time driving around and ended up at Corfe Castle for some shooting.
The clouds were moving incredible fast, it was just a question to wait for the right time to get the sun lighting the Castle.

Lujiazui skyline@4:50 am. I got up very early and took a taxi to the Bund, which is approximately 20 km away, to take sunrise shots. It turned out to be a rainy day. The sunrise glow only last no more than 30 seconds, followed by a light rain. Another shot with the sunrise glow will be uploaded in the future.

Jyväskylä seen from Kuokkala Bridge. I couldn't resist taking a few photos because I don't often go there and now I happened to be there at sunset.
Lifeguard's View
I had two weather predictions apps on my mobile to check for rain. Believe me: I had one saying torrential rain. Other saying cloudy day. Because I had a really though week, I really wanted to sleep. But no one would be there to take the shot for me wouldn't? So I woke up and seriously consider the app with torrential rain to be right.. LOL.
It wasn't. So packed my stuff and went to the beach to be blessed by a crazy cloudy moving morning with just few breaks of sun. More to come.

The two hardest-working men in Venice stand duty on a rooftop around the clock, and wear no pants. The 'Do Mori' (Two Moors) exposed to the elements atop the Torre dell'Orologio are made of bronze, and their bell-hammering mechanism runs like, well, clockwork. Below the Moors, Venice's gold-leafed 15th-century timepiece tracks lunar phases. The clockworks required constant upkeep by a live-in clockwatcher and his family until 1998. After a nine-year renovation, they are now in independent working order – 132-stroke chimes keep time in tune; moving barrels indicate minutes and hours on the world's first digital clock face (c 1753); and wooden statues of the three kings and angel emerge from side panels annually on Epiphany and the Feast of the Ascension.
The magnificent fortress of Le Castella is located on the eastern end of the Gulf of Squillace in the province of Crotone. To be precise, in Isola di Capo Rizzuto looking out over the protected marine reserve of the same name. You don't need much imagination to see the Aragonese soldiers locked in combat with Turkish pirates five centuries ago.
It was erected in 1635 on the site of wooden and is the southeastern tower travel from it is the road to Uglich, and thus there is a name. On the south side of the tower adjacent to it preserved part of the fortress wall. This is a rather powerful structure with thickness up to three meters and a height of more than ten meters. In the XVII century the monastery walls exceed the length of 820 meters, and before the wall was dug roar filled with water.

All visitors of Burano remain intrigued by the many colours and the colorful houses that are reflected into the green waters of channels, by the leaning bell tower, by the tranquility and the calmness with which the elderly ladies embroider original Burano lace by their tombolo (or lace pillow), while they are laughing and chatting in squares among them. It seems to be in paradise.
