Just four hours ago I took some photos of the old library. At that time mostly the demo work had been in the interior. I arrived back on Lower Roswell Road around 5:30 to find a whole lot of the building had already been knocked down. Shot with my little Sony DSC-WX220 and worked on in Snapseed.
This is a cropped, edited and converted to an RNI Films simulation of my original b+w image of this photo. I actually like this version a lot. The film simulation dates it further in the past than it originally was, but in time it won’t mean as much.
LEGO Design Building 19-02 one week after the demolition began.
For everyone who ever asked me to take a picture of the inside of the Design Buildings! Taken 10 minutes ago this is LEGO Design building 19-02 coming down.
Until six months ago this building housed the LEGO IT servers and our back-up generator and most importantly the rubble in the foreground was the LEGO deleted element storage with parts that dated back to the early 1980's packed carefully away in hudreds of cardboard boxes with dozens of bags of elements in each one. Now it's being torn down to make way for a new canteen and office block. Don't worry - the elements are safe in their new home!
(This is the last time I'll add a picture of this to the LEGO removable panel group - it's just funny to subvert the groups purpose so much!)
Before this old warehouse can be converted into luxury storage units, or posh industrial park adjacent condos, or whatever the developer has in mind... the Gunn Brothers have got to finish clearing it out.

An FDMB Fire-Medic is the first on scene to a possible structural collapse at a building demolition site.
All the dispatcher could advise was that 3 men had fallen, 2 were possibly stuck inside, and then the caller's phone died.
Now it's up to the Firefighter Paramedic to do a quick and dirty assessment, ensure the scene is safe, contact the reporting persons, identify and begin to triage the victims. It's also nice to be able to brief the first officer on the situation upon their arrival.
Of course, if anyone needs immediate medical treatment, he's the only game in town.

The Cal Poly Pomona Classroom, Laboratory & Administration Building, aka CLA Building, is a beloved Futurist-style architecture and a well-recognized landmark in the San Gabriel / Pomona Valley east of Los Angeles. Because the building does not meed current California earthquake safety standards, officials voted to tear down the building due to high retrofitting costs. The site will be replaced with green space and outdoor seating.
Kmart was once the leading discount chain (an outgrowth of the S S Kresge company). In 1969, Kmart had a new headquarters built at 3100 W. Big Beaver Road in Troy, Michigan featuring multiple dark grey service towers connected by offices with bronze colored floor to ceiling windows. The towers gave the building a grim ugly appearance. As a kid growing up in Troy, I have a memory of helicopters transporting trees to the site for the landscaping. The structure served as Kmart's HQ from 1972 to 2006 when they merged their operations with Sears and abandoned the Troy location. It had been empty ever since. Demolition started in November 2023 and continues through March 2024. These pictures do not convey the large size of the complex (40 acres).
There goes my favourite bldg on Nicollet Avenue. It was a meatpacking plant!
When I saw what happened I sat down & cried on a nearby sidewalk. A lady got off a bus & comforted me in Spanish. But teens in a car went past & hollered things & squirted water pistols at us.
I became disconsolate. I began literally to wallow on the sidewalk.

After doing some research, using Google’s Street View Maps, I’ve determined that the structure being knocked down is the PowerCo Federal Credit Union. It’s near the eastern end of the East Lake Shopping Center on Roswell Road (GA Hwy. 120)
the 98 year old place is being demolished, wonder what the last person did at those desks and the red beacon that collapsed on it, what it was for
Originally built in the early 1920s by John Metz (J.M.) Schneider, the property was purchased by Maple Leaf Foods in 2003 and final shifts took place there in March of 2015 with hundreds of jobs lost in the process
The new library/community center is set to open in about a month. So the old library building is coming down. Shot with my LUMIX LX100 and worked on a lot using Snapseed.

"Turns out the signs are put up by the Portland Fire Marshal to denote buildings that are unsafe for firefighters. The “U” stands for “unsafe.” They started going up about three years ago, said Mike Alderman, special hazards inspector with Portland Fire & Rescue.
Here’s how they work: The fire department has a catalog of all the unsafe buildings that includes details on how the buildings are unsafe. For example, if a warehouse has a lot of cotton or paper products on the second story, firefighters need to know because those materials could absorb water and double the weight of the floor. The catalog also include details about where firefighters can and cannot go in the building, as well as details about which exits are blocked and which parts of the building are structurally unsound.
This catalog is kept in a database that firefighters can access from computers in their trucks, but since they don’t usually have time to check it – fires are emergency situations, after all – they usually get the information from the dispatcher.
So why do firefighters need signs if they have this database? The signs on the buildings are necessary, Alderman said, in cases where firefighters stumble upon a fire. For example, if firefighters get a call or just happen to see a fire without first talking to dispatch, the sign will let them know they need to ask dispatch about the special safety precautions before barging into the building.
Now just because a building has a “U” sign doesn’t mean the building isn’t safe to inhabit. In fact, a building can be 100 percent up to building code but not comply with the fire code. Building owners may not like the “U” on their buildings, but Alderman said they usually understand it’s necessary. Besides, a building owner could always bring his building up to fire code, which would allow him to remove the sign."

June 10, 2021 - Demolition of the Lazarus (Macy's) Department Store which was built in 1970. Located at 3180 Kingsdale Center, Upper Arlington, Ohio.
"The Lazarus Department Store was founded in downtown Columbus in 1851. This structure is a good example of the suburban Lazarus store design of the mid-20th century. The entrance is emphasized by three ground-to-roof bays of pebble-embedded rock defined by New Formalism style white pilasters and arches. Designed using the same glazed multi-colored blue bricks as the Lazarus Eastland and Northland stores, these materials were selected “not only for their handsome color and sparkle, but for their durability and quality of never needing cleaning.” The design was influenced by Raymond Loewy, considered the father of industrial design, who had a decades-long working relationship with Robert Lazarus." The demo guys have been back at it since Monday. Here’s a quick visual “progress report.” For some unknown reason, Snapseed started outputting my images at 800px a couple of days ago. I discovered it late last evening and have had to recreate a few of my photos in order to measure up to my standards. This is one of them.

The old and the new. Our brand spankin’ new library/community center awaits its official opening while the old building is just a pile of rubble. Shot with my LUMIX LX100 and fixed up using Snapseed. NOTE: I used Snapseed’s brush tool to desaturate the power shovels at the far left. Their intense yellow dominated the entire panorama.
