Since the Spyrius faction of Classic Space never got a big flagship, I decided to build them one for SHIPtemeber 2023. The Spyrius Primus is the Spyrians' mothership where they bring all of the technology they steal from the other Space factions to bring them back to their home planet. It has the same kind of saucer shape as their other ships which allows them to be undetectable by the Space Police's radar. It is equipped with a powerful triple engine and two quad-laser cannons for defense and quick getaways. It features interior for the bridge, cargo bay, and the hallways. The bridge can serve as a detachable escape pod. The ring was inspired by Chris Wight’s Steampunk Mega Wheel Design. Thanks to Diego from 1980somethingspace.com for the Spyrius background.

This weeks song is "Build" and is the third song on Healy's Unwind album. For this photo I used the line "Venus like other lands." I took this at the McKormick Ranch RailRoad park because I wanted to use an open feild so that I could shoot with as wide of a lens as possible. This photo fits into my concentration because it shows a surreal world and it uses similar editing techniques (lightroom sliders and curves) that I have previously used. To edit my image I layered the same image three time and rotated two of them 90 degrees (clockwise and counterclockwise). From there I used the pen tool to select and mask the section near the bottom middle so that I could get it to look as if the world was collapsing or turing (an inception based idea). From there on out I mainly focused on some shadow and lighting adjustments and added the sun flare with the render tool and the birds were a brush which I downloaded online.

“More wine son! Don’t be shy, we are celebrating after all!”

It seemed Baron Locklear possessed not the capability for an ‘inside voice’. He was already on his second glass and feeling its effects, although the former northerner showed no outward signs. “The new lands will be ours for the taking soon enough!” Locklear turned to face the visiting councilman Captain Ramsey, who currently held the Baron’s ear in all things New Roawia. “Oh cheer up Ramsey, the our new ally Ivanovich and his pet are just what we needed to turn the tides in our favor.” He guffawed at his obvious pun, and Captain Ramsey humored him a strained smile.

“While I agree with my lord Baron, I feel I must remind you that Lenfald is still colonizing the isles unopposed. As we capture ships, they capture the unknown wealth of the islands,” He sipped from his wine to allow the point to take hold. “I wish to submit my proposal to you once again, we must al---”

“Enough!” Locklear interrupted. His face suddenly cold and commanding. “I am mulling over your plan. Your ability to make the most out of any situation is why you are here enjoying my best vintage and the luxury of my summer home. But do not overstep yourself.” It was the Barons turn to pause for effect. Locklear’s face turned once again to a grin and he barked a hearty--if not heartful--laugh. “Come! Join my family in the garden.”

He led him to the garden with a hand around his shoulders like old friends. Out of the side of his mouth he spoke in a hushed tone to the veteran pirate, “Ill tell you what Ramsey, convince my wife of this plan and we shall talk...”

This build took much longer to complete than it should have...

It started out as a winter SdKfz 251/1 that was to be part of a friend's project to make a Battle of Kharkov MOC. The problem was that several parts were missing after buying from Bricklink, and he was never able to really complete it. He sold me the parts for a relatively low price when he was doing some spring cleaning, and I managed to complete the halftrack using some spare parts I had lying around. I then decided to change things up a bit and convert it to an early production version of the SdKfz 251/9 howitzer variant, seen here.

Features moving tracks, opening rear doors, posable 75mm gun with detailed gun breech and vehicle interior. Seats 3 minifigs: a driver, a loader, and a gunner.

The design is a modded SdKfz 251/1 from Brickfactory-Berlin.

Some people build careers. Others build bridges. DJ Patil does both. He is one of those rare individuals who move seamlessly between worlds—tech and government, science and storytelling, logic and intuition. I’ve known DJ for over a decade and have photographed him countless times. One particular image comes to mind: a windswept walk along the dunes of Fort Funston, the Pacific crashing below, the light shifting by the second. DJ, as always, was in motion—both physically and mentally.

Most know him as the pioneering data scientist who shaped the role of Chief Data Scientist for the United States under President Obama. His work wasn’t just about numbers; it was about people—using data to improve healthcare, criminal justice, and national security. He’s a mathematician by training, a strategist by experience, and, at his core, a problem-solver who sees patterns where others see chaos.

But numbers only tell part of his story. There’s a warmth to DJ that’s rare in the corridors of power and influence. He has a big heart, always willing to help—whether advising a fledgling entrepreneur, tackling an intractable policy issue, or simply offering a kind word. Conversations with him are an exploration, full of unexpected detours and insights. He listens as much as he speaks, a trait that makes him both a great collaborator and a formidable thinker.

Lately, he’s added another skill to his arsenal: photography. What began as curiosity has become an art, a way of seeing the world beyond data and algorithms. He approaches photography as he does everything else—with intention, precision, and an openness to discovery. The eye of the scientist meets the soul of the artist.

It’s easy to list DJ’s accomplishments—his leadership in Silicon Valley, his work shaping national policy, his role in defining what modern data science could be. But what truly sets him apart is something deeper: his ability to connect, to synthesize, to humanize the abstract. In an age where technology often feels impersonal, DJ reminds us that at the heart of every data point is a human being.

And that may be his greatest talent of all.

Dry dock #1, on the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, Ca. is the oldest dry dock on the west coast built in 1891…It was constructed of concrete and granite and sits at 525’ long, 122’ wide and 35’ 9” deep…just to the right sitting in dry dock #2 is the Liberty ship Jeremiah O’Brien, built in 1943 and a rare survivor of the 6,939-ship 6 June 1944 D-Day armada off the coast of Normandy, France…

Finally! Got the shelves adjusted and the basics set up - furniture, stairs, etc... Now moving on to details (pictures on the walls, decor...). Top shelf - entrance, table for guests and counter (counter is still in progress!). Middle shelf - more sitting for guests. Bottom shelf - kitchen - also still in progress. I plan to make a long table for baking/cooking where the chest of drawers is sitting right now. Also, need to build entrance door for the top of the stairs.

But so far so good... A bit cramped, but with 1:4 scale it's hard to make a large display with limited space.

Stuck · Martha Skye Murphy

Knowing I didn't try hard enough

I got it wrong all too much

I was stuck

I based this build off the concept art that was released before the movie, see the original here: www.flickr.com/photos/antdude3001/8618467480/in/set-72157... I tried as hard as I could to make as close to the original, but still with my own little twists like adding Yondu.

A reworking of any earlier idea to reduce the number of parts to the magic 15.

Was asked by locate Lexus dealer to reproduce their dealership for a 5th anniversary celebration. Didn't get much $$, but it was a different challenge to build something other than Star Wars. A big shout out to Tim who was a big help with pieces.

A competition I am running on my facebook page:

PAPER BUILD COMPETITION!!!!

Its my birthday so to mark the occasion I am launching a new competition :)

Post a picture of your favourite building on www.facebook.com/Popupology (side and front viewpoints required) labelled "paper build" and at the end of every two weeks I will select one to be made into an OA building. If your picture is chosen I will post a finished card to you as a prize!!!

Just snuck in to post this. Gotta go write some scripts, that's what they're paying me for :)

This is dedicated to all my loyal flickr friends. Thank you for your never-ending support. Let's build one another.

Don't destroy.

I'll be on your streams soon enough.

Madpea is having a fun free hunt this weekend. Collect the robot pieces and build your very own robot friend just like mine. You do have to join the free Madpea group to play, clues are given. Fun hunt. Thanks Madpea!

I think my favorite term that I've seen to describe this year has been "a dumpster fire."

Festina Lente!

I wish I was a teddy bear...

124 pictures in 2024 (109) teddy bear

Highlights:

– 131 builds! Not bad, really. ;)

– Blogged by TBB, once.

– Blogged a couple of times by BrickNerd.

– In quick succession, MOCathalon in March, GoH’s Challenge IV from March to June, and then AG kept me with a rate of at least one build a week. A bit exhausting, but fun!

– Published in Beautiful LEGO: Wild!

– Participated in a collab build with my brothers – Fight Through Abercrumbie Pass.

– Made it past the 50 favorites mark, though I was gunning for a hundred, but I guess that will have to wait.

– Passed 500 followers.

– Got a few honorable mentions here and there.

– Participated in launching Brethren of the Brick Seas.

Unlike those who are saying that they will be trying to build more next year, I will actually be trying to build less. I really want to make every MOC as good as it can be rather than feeling rushed to finish a build in a couple of hours. Plus I want to start building more as an art than just because I want to enter the next contest… so we’ll see!

My favorite builds this year:

Well, I really liked my worthless steering wheel build. But apparently not too many other people did.

Water of Life, if small, is still one of my favorites.

The Hanging rock + snake was enjoyable.

And of course, Auner Chapel, one of my heaftiest builds.

From left to right, top to bottom, the above builds are:

Spaceship

Bank Robbery

The Consequences of War

Sea Battle!

GSM Enterprise

Tree-house in Paradise

There be Treasure in Them Thar Caves!

The Vinyard

Geyser Dangers

The Bard's Tale

The Giant Crossbow

Inside the Inn

FYR Arm

The Dragon of Peliger

My Own Pet Flim

Slithering Around Wastyria

Octan Mech

Fight Through Abercrumbie Pass

Pipe Organ

"Wow Emmet, you look kinda small!"

The Waterwheel of Azulair

Five-wheeled Motorcycle

Can Opener

1948 build tram - restored. Was a former restaurant tram in Melbourne. Now part of Ballarat Tram Museum.

Named for Sir Henry Cuthbert (1829-1907).

Member of the Victorian legislative council. Held several important ministry posts. Became first chairman of Ballarat Tramway Company. Has a local road named in his honour and his home (Beaufort House) now provides accomodation for local Federation University students.

Despite the URE's growing army of VCS units, there was a need for cheap field artillery units. The result was the unimaginatively named Main Assault Tank, or MAT. The MAT is armed with four semi-automatic 100 mm cannons, and is capable of piercing the armor of light VCS units. Its four crew consists of a driver, loader, gunner, and commander. Although it uses two engines, both are fairly small so the MAT is prone to engine failure, leaving it immobile on the battlefield. Because of this, they are primarily used as artillery units from the rear lines while infantry takes the front.

A tank. I kinda wanted to build one so I did. Enough said.
