A very famous spot for land- and cityscape photographers in the Netherlands is this arrangement of colorful harbour houses in Groningen. But since I'm not from around this image has been on my bucketlist for quite some time. Last weekend we were on our way to Eemshaven and I finally had the opportunity to take this image of Reitdiep. My way: It was a sunny day with lots of clouds. Adding a 10 stop ND filter plus a circular polarisation-filter on top of each other I achieved my long exposure for a smooth water surface plus some motion in the sky. The sun brings out all the bright colors of the Scandinavian-looking houses.
I am contented with the result (although I loved a little more movement in the clouds) but hey....: there should always be reason for improvement.
For the rest..........
Enjoy!

Loaded full with cargo the ship Thistlegorm lies on the bottom of Red Sea. A really fun dive. Have you been there?
This was a highlight of my trip home. It was on my bucketlist while there and we got so lucky !
One was in the window on the east side of the old farmhouse, we hadn't seen them yet and as we neared the house we heard a clatter. When we looked we could see one owl through the east window sitting in the west window (those shots did not turn out) .... so the course of action was to disturb them no further and rather than walk around the house and likely have them fly off, we went back to the road and walked up the road a ways. Thankfully I had my 500mm Sigma. These are the shots on a high sun, very hot afternoon on the prairie in Alberta.
I could have stayed there all day watching them.
Seen at the Cincinnati Art Museum while visiting the "Burning Man" exhibit a while back. Caretakers wipe it clean every week or so. Makes one stop and examine the postings. A lot to take in...from funny to very serious. Thought provoking.
Bled was on my bucketlist for a long time.
So we planned a Slovenien vacation with my wife on this summer.
We had a bit unluck with the weather, when we arrived to Bled.
At the first night a huge storm came, and it was raining for 5 days straight. Furthermore, we were camping. We planned to do so many things around Bled but we couldn’t. Most of the time we were just sitting in our tent. It was pretty awful.
On the last day, the storm went away, and we went out to the lake immediately. After the storm it was everything so beautiful.
This story reminds me about life itself. Sometimes we struggle, we keep doing our best, and it seems like there is no result. We have to stay persistent, because sooner or later the storm will go away.
Over 600 balloons launch in the early morning at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta - the largest balloon event in the world. Each balloon is given a small spot to set up. They are arranged in rows and launch quickly. It's a miracle they don't crash into each other. Here are 3 balloons in formation right after taking off.
April 8, 2024 - Diamond Ring at the Solar Eclipse Totality, as seen and photographed from Trinity Overlook Park in Dallas, Texas, during the Total Solar Eclipse! This was a Bucket List Photo Shoot and Experience for me! The clouds were thick on Eclipse Day, but thank God for answered prayers, as the clouds moved away and gave us an amazing sight with the Total Solar Eclipse totality!
This one is from yesterday. One highlight from so many possibilities. I'll share some of the runners up later. Magnificent falls, breathtaking. You can get the scale by checking my fellow travelers to the left.

IF YOU ARE STILL READING, here are three important things to know about my bucket and my bucket list:
1. It is a small bucket. This is because my list is a short one.
2. I do not lock the bucket.
(a) This allows anyone who finds it a chance to add to my list. This is potentially an interesting innovation.
(b) This allows anyone to steal the list if they want. This has the potential to save me time and money that I might devote to a better cause.
3. The bucket is not secured in place, and it is next to a secluded public path. This means that anyone who needs a bucket worse than I do can take it without fear of consequences.
Location: A secluded public path, Riehen BS Switzerland.

Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as a homage to Richard Wagner.
The palace was intended as a personal refuge for the reclusive king, but it was opened to the paying public immediately after his death in 1886. Since then over 60 million people have visited Neuschwanstein Castle. More than 1.3 million people visit annually, with up to 6,000 per day in the summer. The palace has appeared prominently in several movies and was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle. The municipality of Schwangau lies at an elevation of 800 m at the south west border of the German state of Bavaria. Its surroundings are characterized by the transition between the Alpine foothills in the south towards the nearby Austrian border and a hilly landscape in the north that appears flat by comparison. In the Middle Ages, three castles overlooked the village. Seven weeks after the death of King Ludwig II in 1886, Neuschwanstein was opened to the public. The shy king had built the castle in order to withdraw from public life. The setting of Neuschwanstein could not be more idyllic. However, movement in the foundation area has to be continuously monitored, and the sheer rock walls must be repeatedly secured. The harsh climate also has a detrimental effect on the limestone façades, which will have to be renovated section by section over the next few years.
Today Neuschwanstein, is one of the most popular of all the palaces and castles in Europe. The famous German castle overlooks the picturesque Hohenschwangau valley and is located only a short distance from the popular tourist town, Fussen. The Neuschwanstein Castle really looks like a fairytale castle. Neuschwanstein is a castle of the paradox. It was built in the 19th century in Bavaria, in a time when castles no longer had strategical and defensive purposes. While Neuschwanstein's look is that of a medieval castle, it was equiped inside with state of the art technology at that time. For example on every floor of the castle there were toilets with automatic flushing system, as well as an air heating system for the whole castle. Water was supplied by a nearby spring situated at only 200 meters above the castle.
After getting skunked by the eastbound CN road train, that apparently tied down east of Withrow before hitting the high bridge at Arcola, we started to make our way back to the Twin Cities via Bayport, on the off chance we'd run into something interesting on UP. After hearing number 49 telling the DS they had the switch lined for the main, I knew the Commercial's Bayport job was very likely heading west.
We made a beeline for Lake Elmo and finally got to knock this shot off my bucketlist.
The Minnesota Commercial runs a job out to the Andersen Windows facility in Bayport, MN on an on-needed (roughly weekly, I think) basis via Union Pacific trackage rights.

My absolute bucketlist photo of my recent short visit to Dublin. Can't believe it actually worked out!
Initially I wanted to go on an early-access tour, but was too late with booking it. So I ended up getting an online ticket myself for 08:30 (right at opening time). I got there 30 mins before and was #3 in line. By 08:20, that tour showed up, but had to queue behind me. So missing out on it turned out to be the best thing to happen, as I would've otherwise never had a shot without people in it.

Bucketlist item ticked off....as an adult. Apparently I came here as a child, but I don't remember it!

Eleven years ago today I completed a lifetime dream of owning a book from the seventeen hundreds. I have always been fascinated by history, and more so the idea and thought of people who lived their day to day lives just like we do- so many, many years ago.
When I look at this book I wonder at all the people who have handled or read this book in the last 225 years- who they were, what inspired them, what they were passionate about… I think that is really what drives my Lifetime Dreams these days –connections and experiences.

NO ONE
The in the evening, outside office hours almost surreal atmosphere at the Terminus of Amsterdam tramline 25.
A sea of light in deserted buildings, not a living soul in sight - a totally empty double set CAF Urbos fits seamless in a SF- like decor...

I have taken a bit a break from Flickr for the past two months but I am back.
CN Tower Edge Walk. 356 meters up (1168 ft), got to walk the 150 meters around the edge of the observation tower with frequent stops and drills for thrills. The ledge is only 3.5 ft which adds to the lovely fright. I have to say this one was the most exhilarating / scary things I've done in a while and loved every second of it. Gives you perspective.
The Temple of Heaven is located in southern Beijing. It was first constructed in 1420, the 18th year of the reign of Ming emperor Yongle, and was extended and renovated during the reigns of Ming emperor Jiajing and Qing emperor Qianlong. It was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would worship the god of heaven and pray for good harvest. This is the largest architectural complex in the world for rituals to pay homage to heaven.
