There’s nothing quite as spectacular as seeing a 200,000 pound southern righthand whale fly into air so effortlessly, exposing its whole body.
It was pure magic to see this just a few meters away from me!
Have you been whale watching before?

BLM Winter Bucket List #30: Cadiz Dunes, California, for Dramatic Photography of Pristine Wilderness
The Cadiz Dunes Wilderness is located in a remote corner of the Mojave Desert about 12 miles south of Cadiz and historic Route 66. The area is accessible year-round, but summer temperatures can soar to 120 degrees in the dunes so winter and spring are better times to visit.
These small dunes were formed by north winds pushing sands off the Cadiz Dry Lake. The pristine nature of the dunes and the beautiful display of unique dune plants have made the area a favorite for photographers. It is surrounded by several other wilderness mountain ranges that provide dramatic backdrops for the dunes.

I am in the process of replacing a few items on my Lifetime Dreams list, and one of the new bucket list items is to spend time at 100 waterfalls.
I have discovered the beautiful and enchanting experience of not just seeing a waterfall, but sitting next to it, hiking in and around it- feeling the breath it pours out. So I don't want to just go see 100 waterfalls... I want to go experience 100 waterfalls (two on the completed list so far!).

Year Fifteen Of My 365 Project
Day Twenty Two of Thirty days of Giving Thanks:
I am very thankful for Alberta, my beautiful Carvin acoustic guitar- not because of its monetary value by any means but for what she means to me and what experiences I have had with her. After six years of a 365, I cannot remember if I’ve shared this story, but I will anyways.
When I first learned to dream and go after things that I wanted to have, accomplish, see, or do I was utterly penniless and in dire straits. I had about $20 to my name for groceries every week and often went without so my wife could eat. The bills mounted, wolves were at my door breaking it down, and things were not changing. But I still believed in what I had learned, that we can focus and believe and make our dreams a reality- and this guitar was to be the test of that.
Up until then I’d achieved dreams but they were dreams that didn’t cost money, and if they did it was very minimal. This was a pretty big expense and I was paycheck to paycheck so the world would have told me that there was no way I’d ever have her in my hands. I visualized and pictured myself playing this, ordering the guitar: every imaginable detail. Before I knew it I had the money- but I had an expense come up that took precedent. I didn’t give up but kept on and doors opened up for overtime and additional income. Before I knew it, I had the money and ordered it.
I remember every detail of the day it came: tracking its delivery through UPS, running home on my lunch break to pick it up, opening the case, etc. Pictures really never do justice on the craftsmanship of Carvin Guitars.
The first time I played this guitar publicly was about 10 weeks later at my sister’s funeral. I had hidden the purchase from my family because I didn’t think they’d understand what this guitar meant to me as they never really understood what music meant to me; I knew they’d think I was being irresponsible. I decided that was stupid to hide behind such fears, and I sat down with my dad and talked about it and showed it to him- I sat by my sister’s casket and played haunting melody after melody; it was my way of “showing” it to her and my way of grieving.
Hands down, this is the best acoustic I’ve played on in my life… but more so when I pick up Alberta, yes I name all my guitars, I remember to believe in my dreams… and I NEVER want to forget that!

#conservationlands15 Social Media Takeover, March 15th
What is an National Conservation Area? From the vast deserts of western Nevada to the fog-shrouded coast of Northern California, the BLM’s National Conservation Lands has stewardship of 16 NCAs and five similarly designated lands in ten states. Each area is has its own unique congressional legislation guiding BLM stewardship and public use. They offer a wide range of recreation opportunities, from whitewater rafting and gold-medal trout fishing in the Gunnison Gorge NCA in Colorado to world-class rock climbing in Red Rock Canyon NCA in Nevada. These lands feature exceptional scientific, cultural, and ecological values. For example, the San Pedro Riparian NCA in Arizona supports over 350 species of birds while the Steese NCA in Alaska contains critical caribou calving grounds. They differ tremendously in landscape and size, the largest being Nevada’s 1.2 million acre Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon- Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area.

The Snow Petrel is the only member of the genus Pagodroma. It is one of only three birds that breed exclusively in Antarctica and has been seen at the South Pole. It has the most southerly breeding distribution of any bird.
The Snow Petrel, Pagodroma nivea, is a small, pure white fulmarine petrel with black underdown, coal-black eyes, small black bill and bluish gray feet. Body length is 36–41 cm (14–16 in) and the wingspan is 76–79 cm (30–31 in). Flight is more fluttering than most petrels. They are known to live 14 to 20 years.
Breeding occurs in colonies on the Antarctic Peninsula, and various Antarctic islands. Nesting is colonial in small to large colonies on cliffs, usually near the sea, but also inland. Some birds remain at the colony all year, but the main influx at colonies is from the mid-September until early November. Nests are simple pebble-lined scrapes usually in a deep rock crevices with overhanging protection. (wikipedia)
We had many Snow Petrels along the southeast coast of South Georgia, and south to the Antarctic peninsula. This was taken in gloomy and snowy conditions deep into Drygalski Fjord, a bay 1 mile (1.6 km) wide which recedes northwestwards 7 miles (11 km), entered immediately north of Nattriss Head along the southeast coast of South Georgia. Truly stunning birds.

BLM Winter Bucket List #17: Powderhorn Wilderness, Colorado, for Cross-Country Skiing across Alpine Tundra
The Powderhorn Wilderness in Colorado is found in a rugged, glacier-carved landscape of the northern reaches of the San Juan Mountains. The area consists of large expanses of alpine tundra, spruce forests, and several alpine lakes at nearly 12,000 feet in elevation. Breathtaking views of the San Juan Mountains are available in this wilderness. Above 12,000 feet are two high-elevation plateaus that make up the largest relatively flat expanse of alpine tundra in the lower 48 states.
The higher elevations of Powderhorn Wilderness area characterized by alpine tundra and high alpine lakes, such as Powderhorn Lakes and Devil’s Lake. During the winter months, visitors can enjoy this scenic area while cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
