When we were planning our trip to Hongkong, one of the bucketlist locations was Victoria Peak viewing deck, where -under the right weather conditions- you have an overwhelming view over Hongkong harbour and a good part of the area.
The conditions turned out to be perfect. We were just in time for the golden hour, and I was able to make this 3 image panorama of almost the complete scene. After that the waiting game started for blue hour. What happened then, I will tell you another time. For now, please click L and

Thank goodness for the rain! I put marbles on the bottom of the bucket so you could see the raindrops and distortion better.
How does a bucketlist get it's content? In my case I watched an episode of "Photographing the World" by Elia Locardi around 7 years ago. This landscape and cityscape tutorial was recorded all over the world. Elia's shots from Singapore really encouraged me to visit this place. One of his locations was this spot near the bay. So when I had the chance to visit Singapore this year I knew that I wanted to make this image. I was lucky with the circumstances: no rain, nice sky and no other photographers that wanted my spot 😉. I am satisfied with the result and ticked one item of my list.

Van 6 t/m 9 september ben ik samen met mijn treinenspotmaat voor vier dagen naar Tsjechië geweest. Voor deze periode werd erg fraai weer voorspeld voor een deel van Europa en daarom werden er op het laatste moment plannen gemaakt om weer wat fraais op te rollen in één van ons favoriete treinenlanden. We hadden van te voren nog de grootste moeite om onze werkagenda's leeg te vegen en oppas te vinden, maar het lukte op het laatste moment toch nog. Er werd een dag in het Elbe-dal bij Ústí nad Labem genoten van het landschap en de treinen, twee dagen in het midden van het land doorgebracht en de laatste dag werd een Bardotka-jacht gecombineerd met wederom de regio Ústí nad Labem.
Donderdag 7 september werd de regio rondom Jihlava bezocht. Op de hoofdlijnen was de missie om nog zoveel mogelijk 242's in de sneltreindienst en een spitstrein te pakken en daarnaast nog Laminatka's (230/240) in de goederendienst en de serie 210 in de lokale goederentreindienst te pakken. Dat lukte allemaal wonderwel met de nodige interessante verhalen achteraf. Een diesellocomotief met de mooie bijnaam Duikbril staat echter ook altijd hoog op onze bucketlist. Vooral de fraaie kleurvarianten van deze markante serie. Nu hadden we in de omloop gezien dat er op de diesellijn Brno-Jihlava een fraaie loc (de 754 023) zou rijden. Daarom werden halverwege de middag de plannen omgegooid en de vrij rustige hoofdlijnen rondom Jihlava verruild voor de diesellijn.
Nou ja, diesellijn: het gedeelte tussen Brno en Střelice ligt al onder de draad en voor de rest van de lijn zijn er plannen om te electrificeren. Althans, wij dachten dat het alleen plannen waren. Op weg naar de bekende stek bij Omice waar een deel van de middag de zon goed staat, zagen wij tot onze schrik hekjes langs het spoor staan en de sokkels voor de bovenleidingmasten. Bij onze stek stonden zelfs al de eerste masten! Nu is er onlangs flink gekapt en gesnoeid en daarom konden wij mooi gebruik maken van een stek die iets meer richting Tetčice is gelegen en konden we de masten aardig uit ons beeld houden om zo het dieselgevoel nog te behouden.
Een dag later begrepen we van een Tsjechische spotter dat het lijngedeelte Střelice-Zastávka u Brna tweesporig wordt gemaakt en geëlectrificeerd. Daarna is volgens hem het geld op en wordt in een later stadium de rest van de lijn aangepakt. Wij konden in ieder geval onze platen hier schieten in nagenoeg nog de oude situatie al is rechts in beeld bij de spoorwegovergang een nieuwe mast getuige van de naderende modernisering. Als leuke bonus konden de motorwagens van de serie 854 en bijbehorende stuurstandwagens mooi worden meegepakt.
Hier zien we de bovengemiddelde combinatie van de Čd 954 201, 854 028, 954 303 en 854 201 met stoptrein Os 4832 Brno hl.n.-Třebíč bij Omice op 7-9-2023. Altijd weer fijn om deze klassiekers weer in actie te zien en te horen.

On my last trip to Iceland, this was one of the places that I most wanted to know and for which I had great expectations.
Knowing it would be just a short visit at dawn in one of the longest days of our trip, we left Akureyri at 6.00 AM accompanied by heavy rain and some snow, I confess that on the way I feared that this would not be "the day" ...
Fortunately, shortly after our arrival we had a good weather window that allowed everyone to shoot and contemplate this beauty of nature that for me, is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world !

In de zomer van 2022 werd de vakantie samen met de vrouw en dochter doorgebracht in Tsjechië. Uiteraard vond ik het niet heel erg dat de dames wederom voor Tsjechië kozen, want mijn bucketlist qua treinen in dit fraaie land is nog best wel lang ;-). De eerste twee weken zaten we in de buurt van Nymburk en de derde week nabij Uherské Hradiště.
In de buurt van Nymburk is op spoors gebied genoeg te beleven. Nymburk is het startpunt van twee fraaie diesellijnen in noordelijke richting. De hoofdlijn Nymburk-Ústí nad Labem biedt voor de liefhebbers van cargo veel actie.
Iets verderop rijden richting het zuiden bezocht ik ’s ochtends vroeg het station van Čáslav. Het interessante aan dit station is dat het een station aan de elektrische hoofdlijn Kolin-Havlíčkův Brod heeft (wisselspanning 25 kV) en een station aan de diesellijn Čáslav-Třemošnice. Beide stations zijn met elkaar verbonden via een loopbrug. Er is echter op maaiveldsniveau ook een onverhard pad. Daar werd door de Tsjechen het meeste gebruik van gemaakt. Ik vond dit ook wel zo gemakkelijk ;-). Via de brug was het nogal omlopen en de trap was ook best wel hoog.
Op de hoofdlijn rijden sneltreinen die allemaal worden getrokken door een loc van de serie 362. Daarnaast rijden er goederentreinen op de lijn (met een beetje geluk nog getrokken door een Laminatka). Op de diesellijn rijden motorwagens van de serie 810. Er rijden ook goederentreinen op dit lijntje die meestal worden getrokken door een diesellocomotief van de serie 742.
Naast de sneltreinen op de hoofdlijn rijden er ook enkele stoptreinen die bestaan uit een e-loc van der serie 362, een bagagerijtuig en een dubbeldekker. Op de foto zien we Čd 362 161-2 met Os 5909 Kolin-Žďár nad Sázavou op station Čáslav op 22-7-2022.

OK this photo was one of the main reasons I went to Northern Ireland as I've wanted to see this for ages. Loved it took loads but won't bore you with any more.. Over the next few days I'm going to try to do a quickish summary of my time from then till now!

Hiking in Yli-Nampavast wilderness and breathtaking natural beauty. The area boasts picturesque hiking trails that meander through forests, alongside lakes, and amidst rolling hills. Yli-Nampa is located in the north of Finland, specifically in the Lapland region. This region is located above the Arctic Circle and is known for its vast forests, lakes and un-spoilt nature. Yli-Nampa itself is an area in Lapland that is suitable for outdoor activities such as hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing and experiencing northern nature and culture. During the month of January, daylight hours are very short due to the polar night. This phenomenon occurs in areas above the Arctic Circle, including Lapland. We set out early in the darkness on our way to Luosto. In Yli-Nampa, the moon shines beautifully over the forest while the sun has yet to rise, but the sky is beginning to lighten. The snow in Yli-Nampa lies like an untouched white carpet, and the trees are draped in a thick layer of powder snow. Every step breaks the serene silence of the snowy surroundings; the crunching sound of fresh snow under my hiking boots fills the air. The trees bend gently under the weight of the snow, and nature seems to be in a deep winter slumber. The path is lined with pine trees adorned with ice crystals. The expanse of the snowy landscape stretches to the horizon, and the cold air tingles on my skin. The moment with the moon, surrounded by the white beauty of nature, is magical. Wandelen in Yli-Nampa, Finland, biedt een prachtige en serene buitenervaring, vooral voor wie ongerepte natuur en rustige landschappen waardeert. Yli-Nampa ligt in Lapland, bekend om zijn uitgestrekte wildernis en adembenemende natuurlijke schoonheid. Het gebied beschikt over schilderachtige wandelpaden die door bossen slingeren, langs meren lopen en tussen glooiende heuvels door gaan. In Yli-Nampa schijnt de maan prachtig over het bos terwijl de zon nog moet opkomen, maar de lucht begint al te gloren. Als je geluk hebt om tijdens de donkere maanden van het jaar te bezoeken, is Yli-Nampa ideaal gelegen voor het bekijken van het noorderlicht aurora borealis. Na een dag wandelen word je misschien getrakteerd op een spectaculaire vertoning van deze dansende lichten aan de nachtelijke hemel. Eén van de meest aantrekkelijke aspecten van wandelen in Yli-Nampa is het gevoel van eenzaamheid en rust. De afgelegen locatie en ongerepte wildernis bieden een perfecte ontsnapping aan de drukte van het dagelijks leven. Naast de natuurlijke schoonheid biedt wandelen in Lapland de mogelijkheid om je onder te dompelen in de lokale Sami-cultuur. Leer meer over traditionele praktijken, bezoek rendierboerderijen en proef misschien zelfs lokale lekkernijen zoals gerookte vis of bergbraambessen.

I've waited a lot of years to see a shelf cloud over checkerboard hill, along the South Saskatchewan River north of Leader. It is a popular look out spot for locals, and also tourists. It finally happened tonight.
UP's once a week 'potash job' works their way south through the rock cut just north of Moab, UT. Finally knocked this shot off the bucketlist and couldn't be happier with the outcome of it.

From a recent visit to the iceberg packed glacier lagoon in Iceland. It´s amazing to see the multiton ice sculptures that mother nature carves out of this ancient ice, slowly float out to sea... =)
🇳🇱 Iets wat al een tijdje op de bucketlist stond, waren de Düwag-trams van Freiburg. Na lang uitstellen begon het toch te kriebelen om deze oudjes eens te vereeuwigen, vooral na een niet-hobbygerelateerd bezoekje aan Freiburg. In deze stad rijden er nog drie types Düwag-trams rond: de GT8K uit 1981/82, waarvan er nog twee actief zijn (helaas niet op de dag dat ik er was), de GT8N uit 1990, waarvan er nog zo'n tien in dienst zijn, en de GT8-MN-Z uit 1993/94, waarvan er 26 rondrijden en die een radicaal ander ontwerp hebben.
Hier zien we de GT8N 230 in originele kleurstelling stoppen bij de halte Hasemannstraße. Niet lang daarna zal de achtasser de halte Littenweiler bereiken, waarna deze terugkeert.
🇬🇧 Something that had been on the bucket list for a while was the Düwag trams of Freiburg. After much postponing, I finally felt the urge to capture these oldies, especially after a non-hobby-related visit to Freiburg. In this city three types of Düwag trams are still in operation: the GT8K from 1981/82, of which only two are still active (unfortunately, not on the day I was there), the GT8N from 1990, of which about ten are still in service, and the GT8-MN-Z from 1993/94, of which 26 are running and have a radically different design.
Here we see the GT8N 230 in its original livery stopping at Hasemannstraße station. Shortly after, the eight-axle tram will reach the Littenweiler station, after which it will return.
🇩🇪 Etwas, das schon eine Weile auf der Bucketlist stand, waren die Düwag-Straßenbahnen von Freiburg. Nach langem Aufschieben verspürte ich schließlich den Drang, diese Oldtimer zu verewigen, besonders nach einem nicht-hobbybezogenen Besuch in Freiburg. In dieser Stadt sind noch drei Typen von Düwag-Straßenbahnen im Einsatz: der GT8K aus den Jahren 1981/82, von dem noch zwei aktiv sind (leider nicht an dem Tag an dem ich dort war), der GT8N aus dem Jahr 1990, von dem noch etwa zehn im Dienst sind, und der GT8-MN-Z aus den Jahren 1993/94, von dem 26 fahren und der ein radikal anderes Design hat.
Hier sehen wir den GT8N 230 in seiner originalen Farbgebung an der Haltestelle Hasemannstraße halten. Kurz danach wird die Achtachser die Haltestelle Littenweiler erreichen, wonach sie zurückkehrt.

Redhead - Drake.
Bucketlist photo bird! It was worth loosing the feeling in my feet and fingers to get some photos of this gorgeous male Redhead who was spotted in Forest Park. I was initially hesitant at going to look for him, but an ebird record showed he was still present this morning. Even with all my cold weather gear on, the indicated 14* on the truck, the ducks were swimming about on the open section of the pond. These arent super uncommon in MO during the winter, but they arent usually seen in large numbers or super consecutively. While I do wish I was able to get a lower angle on the water to him, I wasnt going to risk going thru the ice OR laying in the snow. I took over 800 photos in about 35-40 minutes, so theres a few to go thru, and so far there are some really good looking ones.
