Van 12 juli t/m 1 augustus 2025 was ik met ons gezin op vakantie in het prachtige vakantieland Tsjechië. Als uitvalsbasis voor het treinenspotten zaten we voor de hoofdlijnen heel gunstig in de buurt van Litoměřice. Voor de karakteristieke diesellijnen was het iets verder rijden. Helaas viel het weer in de vakantie behoorlijk tegen. Wel fijn weer om buiten te zijn en goed weer voor zwemmen en uitstapjes. Voor het treinenspotten was het echter niet optimaal. Door de vele bewolking was het risico groot dat een plaatje aan een diesellijn in de wolkenbrij zou verdwijnen. Totaal meer dan een uur rijden voor een mogelijke mislukte of mindere foto deed me besluiten om me vooral op de hoofdlijnen te richten. Daar viel het echter ook nog niet mee om goede foto’s te maken. De wolkenluchten waren vaak wel mooi en daar hou ik ook wel van.
Een fotostek die al jaren op mijn bucketlist staat is de fotostek vanaf de oostelijke Elbebrug bij Litoměřice. Het was nog geen tien minuten rijden vanaf ons vakantiehuisje. De auto kan worden geparkeerd in de buurt. Het is niet echt prettig om op de brug te staan, want er rijdt erg veel verkeer over de brug. Met een beetje geluk rijden er echter wel een aantal goederentreinen goed voor de zon langs. Ik stond op zaterdagochtend 19 juli voor het eerst op de brug. In het begin was het erg rustig en toen de goederentreinen begonnen te komen, kwamen ook de wolken. Toch ging het meeste gelukkig wel in het zonnetje, al heb ik die ochtend heel wat keren "zenuwachtig" achterom gekeken.
Hier zien we de Metrans 383 440-5 met een containertrein richting het zuiden in iLitoměřice op 19-7-2025.

When we were planning our trip to Hongkong, one of the bucketlist locations was Victoria Peak viewing deck, where -under the right weather conditions- you have an overwhelming view over Hongkong harbour and a good part of the area.
The conditions turned out to be perfect. We were just in time for the golden hour, and I was able to make this 3 image panorama of almost the complete scene. After that the waiting game started for blue hour. What happened then, I will tell you another time. For now, please click L and

The Flam Railway (Flåmsbana) is a spectacular train journey that offers a panoramic view of some of the wildest and most magnificent nature in the Norwegian fjord landscape. The 20 km-long train ride took 20 years and is one of the steepest standard gauge railway lines in the world.
How does a bucketlist get it's content? In my case I watched an episode of "Photographing the World" by Elia Locardi around 7 years ago. This landscape and cityscape tutorial was recorded all over the world. Elia's shots from Singapore really encouraged me to visit this place. One of his locations was this spot near the bay. So when I had the chance to visit Singapore this year I knew that I wanted to make this image. I was lucky with the circumstances: no rain, nice sky and no other photographers that wanted my spot 😉. I am satisfied with the result and ticked one item of my list.

Ein Roadtrip auf dem Hwy 101 entlang der Küste Oregons stand schon so lange auf meiner Bucketlist. Südlich von Cannon Beach ist die Küste besonders rauh und zerklüftet mit vielen kleinen Buchten und Stränden - aber leider hoffnungslos überlaufen im Sommer. Zwar traut sich kaum einer ins eiskalte Wasser des Pazifiks, aber trotzdem tummeln sich Menschenmassen auf den Stränden - wir werden wohl irgendwann noch mal wiederkommen wenn es leerer ist.
A road trip along the Oregon coast had been on my bucket list for a long time. South of Cannon Beach, the coast is particularly rugged with many small bays and beaches—but unfortunately, it's hopelessly overcrowded in summer. While hardly anyone dares to swim in the icy Pacific Ocean, crowds still flock to the beaches. We'll probably come back sometime when it's less crowded.

On my last trip to Iceland, this was one of the places that I most wanted to know and for which I had great expectations.
Knowing it would be just a short visit at dawn in one of the longest days of our trip, we left Akureyri at 6.00 AM accompanied by heavy rain and some snow, I confess that on the way I feared that this would not be "the day" ...
Fortunately, shortly after our arrival we had a good weather window that allowed everyone to shoot and contemplate this beauty of nature that for me, is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world !

In de zomer van 2022 werd de vakantie samen met de vrouw en dochter doorgebracht in Tsjechië. Uiteraard vond ik het niet heel erg dat de dames wederom voor Tsjechië kozen, want mijn bucketlist qua treinen in dit fraaie land is nog best wel lang ;-). De eerste twee weken zaten we in de buurt van Nymburk en de derde week nabij Uherské Hradiště.
In de buurt van Nymburk is op spoors gebied genoeg te beleven. Nymburk is het startpunt van twee fraaie diesellijnen in noordelijke richting. De hoofdlijn Nymburk-Ústí nad Labem biedt voor de liefhebbers van cargo veel actie.
Iets verderop rijden richting het zuiden bezocht ik ’s ochtends vroeg het station van Čáslav. Het interessante aan dit station is dat het een station aan de elektrische hoofdlijn Kolin-Havlíčkův Brod heeft (wisselspanning 25 kV) en een station aan de diesellijn Čáslav-Třemošnice. Beide stations zijn met elkaar verbonden via een loopbrug. Er is echter op maaiveldsniveau ook een onverhard pad. Daar werd door de Tsjechen het meeste gebruik van gemaakt. Ik vond dit ook wel zo gemakkelijk ;-). Via de brug was het nogal omlopen en de trap was ook best wel hoog.
Op de hoofdlijn rijden sneltreinen die allemaal worden getrokken door een loc van de serie 362. Daarnaast rijden er goederentreinen op de lijn (met een beetje geluk nog getrokken door een Laminatka). Op de diesellijn rijden motorwagens van de serie 810. Er rijden ook goederentreinen op dit lijntje die meestal worden getrokken door een diesellocomotief van de serie 742.
Naast de sneltreinen op de hoofdlijn rijden er ook enkele stoptreinen die bestaan uit een e-loc van der serie 362, een bagagerijtuig en een dubbeldekker. Op de foto zien we Čd 362 161-2 met Os 5909 Kolin-Žďár nad Sázavou op station Čáslav op 22-7-2022.

OK this photo was one of the main reasons I went to Northern Ireland as I've wanted to see this for ages. Loved it took loads but won't bore you with any more.. Over the next few days I'm going to try to do a quickish summary of my time from then till now!
Vandaag was het maandag 23 december, een dag met zeer wisselvallig weer, wat het lastig maakte om plannen te maken. Ik besloot naar Engis te gaan om daar de bediening te fotograferen. Tussen 9 en 10 uur komt hier normaal een HLD77 om ketelwagons uit te wisselen. Vooraf heeft de Prayon-locomotief de ketels aangebracht, waarna de HLD77 ze op een zijspoor plaatst. Vanaf dat zijspoor rijdt de loc naar de mee te nemen ketels, waarna de 77 vertrekt. Vervolgens komt de Cockerill-locomotief naar het station om de aangeleverde ketels naar Prayon te brengen. Dit wilde ik vandaag voor de tweede keer fotograferen. In 2022 had ik deze bediening al vastgelegd met de gele Cockerill, maar die lijkt hier niet meer te rijden. Vandaag zou de bekende witte Cockerill komen.
Bij aankomst in Engis kwam vrijwel direct de HLD77 aan met vier gasketelwagons. Het rangeren verliep vlot, en ik verwachtte dat de Cockerill rond 10 uur zou arriveren. Dat liep echter anders. Terwijl ik wachtte, kon ik op het hoofdspoor een Vectron van DB fotograferen en ook iets wat ik al lang eens op de foto wilde hebben: een "Frankenstein"-samenstelling bestaande uit M7- en M4-rijtuigen (M7+M4+M4+M7). Om 12 uur leek het wachten tevergeefs, en ik besloot naar de tweede brug te gaan. Daar zag ik in de verte de witte Cockerill stilstaan. Het begon erop te lijken dat de locomotief defect was. Ik besloot richting Hermalle-sous-Huy te lopen en onderweg te kijken wat de status was. Toen ik de Cockerill niet meer tegenkwam, keerde ik terug naar de brug. Uiteindelijk zag ik de locomotief uit Prayon aankomen en kon ik hem eindelijk fotograferen.
Rond 13.30 uur arriveerde de Cockerill en nam de ketels mee die door de HLD77 waren achtergelaten. Omdat het bijna kerst was, hadden ze bij Prayon een redelijk levensloze kerstman aan de locomotief gehangen, een leuke toevoeging. Op dat moment werd de lucht erg donker, maar gelukkig brak de zon door, waardoor ik een zonnige foto van deze prachtige combinatie kon maken. Hierna besloot ik door te reizen naar Marchin.
In Marchin moeten de wagons door een privé loc van arcelor mittal naar de fabriek gereden worden. Mijn vermoeden was dat een koe-kalf loc hier dienst deed omdat zo eentje te zien was op google maps. In Engis kon ik de trein naar Huy nemen en in Huy had ik een overstap van 50 minuten, wat me de gelegenheid gaf om even pauze te nemen in het stationsbuffet. Daarna nam ik de bus naar Marchin. Deze locatie stond al lang hoog op mijn bucketlist. De bedieningstrein, die wordt aangeleverd door Lineas, rijdt over een prachtige spoorlijn en biedt mooie fotografiemogelijkheden. Toch is het lastig een trein vast te leggen vanwege de ongunstige tijden: maandag rond 16 uur en vrijdag rond 8 uur. Vandaag wilde ik voor het eerst kijken hoe de bediening in Marchin verloopt.
Bij de Arcelor Mittal-check-in op Google Maps staat een koe-kalf-locomotief, en die stond vandaag op exact dezelfde plek. Het leek erop dat deze loc niet snel meer zou rijden, al kan het ook zijn dat hij er slechter uitziet dan hij technisch is. Ondertussen zag ik dat er ook een HLD77 op lijn 125 reed. Hopelijk was dat de trein naar Marchin die een uur te vroeg reed – en dat bleek zo te zijn! De 7767 had twee staalwagons bij zich en ging nog twee wagons ophalen. Ideaal, want zo kon ik de trein in goed daglicht fotograferen op lijn 126.
In Marchin stonden de twee staalwagons al gereed op spoor 3. De HLD77 plaatste zijn wagons via spoor 1 op spoor 2 en reed vervolgens naar spoor 3 om de nieuwe wagons op te halen. Tijdens dit proces hoorde ik een overweg rinkelen. Dat moest de fabrieksloc van Arcelor Mittal zijn. Ik fotografeerde de 77 bij zijn vertrek, die ongeveer twee uur eerder was dan gepland. Op de achtergrond kwam een prachtige Cockerill-locomotief tevoorschijn – een gele dit keer! Recent had ik die niet meer op foto’s gezien, dus dit was een fijne verrassing.
Na het vertrek van de HLD77 liep ik naar een eerder uitgekozen plekje waar ik de Cockerill opnieuw kon fotograferen. De locomotief koppelde zich aan de wagons en bracht ze naar de fabriek. Hierna was het tijd voor een wandeling terug naar station Huy, omdat de bus net vertrokken was. Vanuit Huy nam ik de trein en reisde ik rustig terug naar huis. Een geslaagde dag vol mooie momenten en geslaagde foto’s!

I've waited a lot of years to see a shelf cloud over checkerboard hill, along the South Saskatchewan River north of Leader. It is a popular look out spot for locals, and also tourists. It finally happened tonight.
UP's once a week 'potash job' works their way south through the rock cut just north of Moab, UT. Finally knocked this shot off the bucketlist and couldn't be happier with the outcome of it.

🇳🇱 Iets wat al een tijdje op de bucketlist stond, waren de Düwag-trams van Freiburg. Na lang uitstellen begon het toch te kriebelen om deze oudjes eens te vereeuwigen, vooral na een niet-hobbygerelateerd bezoekje aan Freiburg. In deze stad rijden er nog drie types Düwag-trams rond: de GT8K uit 1981/82, waarvan er nog twee actief zijn (helaas niet op de dag dat ik er was), de GT8N uit 1990, waarvan er nog zo'n tien in dienst zijn, en de GT8-MN-Z uit 1993/94, waarvan er 26 rondrijden en die een radicaal ander ontwerp hebben.
Hier zien we de GT8N 230 in originele kleurstelling stoppen bij de halte Hasemannstraße. Niet lang daarna zal de achtasser de halte Littenweiler bereiken, waarna deze terugkeert.
🇬🇧 Something that had been on the bucket list for a while was the Düwag trams of Freiburg. After much postponing, I finally felt the urge to capture these oldies, especially after a non-hobby-related visit to Freiburg. In this city three types of Düwag trams are still in operation: the GT8K from 1981/82, of which only two are still active (unfortunately, not on the day I was there), the GT8N from 1990, of which about ten are still in service, and the GT8-MN-Z from 1993/94, of which 26 are running and have a radically different design.
Here we see the GT8N 230 in its original livery stopping at Hasemannstraße station. Shortly after, the eight-axle tram will reach the Littenweiler station, after which it will return.
🇩🇪 Etwas, das schon eine Weile auf der Bucketlist stand, waren die Düwag-Straßenbahnen von Freiburg. Nach langem Aufschieben verspürte ich schließlich den Drang, diese Oldtimer zu verewigen, besonders nach einem nicht-hobbybezogenen Besuch in Freiburg. In dieser Stadt sind noch drei Typen von Düwag-Straßenbahnen im Einsatz: der GT8K aus den Jahren 1981/82, von dem noch zwei aktiv sind (leider nicht an dem Tag an dem ich dort war), der GT8N aus dem Jahr 1990, von dem noch etwa zehn im Dienst sind, und der GT8-MN-Z aus den Jahren 1993/94, von dem 26 fahren und der ein radikal anderes Design hat.
Hier sehen wir den GT8N 230 in seiner originalen Farbgebung an der Haltestelle Hasemannstraße halten. Kurz danach wird die Achtachser die Haltestelle Littenweiler erreichen, wonach sie zurückkehrt.
This summer I finally had a chance to see some puffins in real life on the island of Hornøya on the east coast of northern Norway. It had been on my bucketlist for a while already.
Honestly, I expected these cute birds to be the size of a big sturdy chicken, but to my surprise they were the size of little bantams instead. Aww :)
Eventhough they look kind of quirky in resting mode, it was impressive to see these birds in action. They are so incredibly fast, diving from the rocks and soaring across the sea. They can even swim underwater, 100% adapted to this particular environment.
I saw some razorbills, guillemots and large cormorants on this island as well. It was wonderful to see their feathers up clothes.
At first, I wasn't sure how I would feel about invading their space, but luckily it didn't seem to bother them too much. Obviously they see people all the time. A strange situation, but wow, what an experience!

Close to the village of Arsha in the Kazbegi region lies the Arsha Waterfall, about five kilometers from Stepantsminda Kazbegi. The hike to the waterfall is considered easy and typically takes three to four hours. The trail is unpaved but well-trodden, surrounded by lush meadows, and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The waterfall is one of the lesser-known natural attractions in the area, contributing to its untouched and serene atmosphere. A bit further along is the Toti Waterfall, accessible via a steep trail that passes above the Arsha Waterfall. This waterfall offers spectacular panoramic views and is an ideal spot for a picnic. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility, the breathtaking nature, and even take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water. For adventure seekers, it's possible to continue the hike to the nearby Gergeti Glacier, making the journey a full-day excursion.
The journey to the waterfall is a true challenge, yet also a breathtaking experience. The trail winds through rugged, arid terrain with steep inclines and loose rocks. Hikers must be well-prepared, as certain sections can be demanding and exhausting. However, the reward upon arrival is well worth it: a refreshing breeze from the waterfall and a stunning panoramic view. In the photo, Kanitha is seen reaching the Arsha Waterfall after an adventurous climb, set against the rugged, mountainous landscape of the Kazbegi region. The waterfall in the foreground contrasts strikingly with the dry surroundings, creating a spectacular natural destination. The steep slopes and untouched wilderness highlight both the challenge and the extraordinary beauty of this remote location..
Nabij het dorp Arsha in de Kazbegi-regio ligt de Arsha-waterval, op ongeveer vijf kilometer van Stepantsminda Kazbegi. De wandeling naar de waterval wordt als eenvoudig beschouwd en duurt doorgaans drie tot vier uur. Het pad is ongebaand maar goed begaanbaar, omringd door weelderige weiden en biedt prachtige uitzichten op de omliggende bergen. Toch blijft de tocht een ware uitdaging, maar tegelijkertijd een prachtige ervaring. Het landschap verandert geleidelijk van glooiende weiden naar ruigere, drogere grond met steile hellingen en losse stenen. Wandelaars moeten goed voorbereid zijn, want sommige delen van de route kunnen veeleisend en vermoeiend zijn. Maar eenmaal aangekomen, wacht de beloning: een verkoelende bries van de waterval en een adembenemend uitzicht. Op de foto is te zien hoe Kanitha, na een avontuurlijke klim, aankomt bij de Arsha-waterval, gelegen in het ruige, bergachtige landschap van Kazbegi. De waterval op de voorgrond vormt een sterk contrast met het dorre terrein, wat bijdraagt aan de ongerepte en serene sfeer. De steile hellingen en ongerepte wildernis onderstrepen zowel de uitdaging als de ongekende schoonheid van deze afgelegen plek. Nog iets verder ligt de Toti-waterval, bereikbaar via een steil pad dat bovenlangs de Arsha-waterval loopt. Deze waterval biedt spectaculaire panoramische uitzichten en is een ideale plek voor een picknick. Bezoekers kunnen hier genieten van de rust, de natuur en zelfs een verfrissende douche nemen in het heldere water. Voor de echte avonturiers is het mogelijk om verder te trekken naar de nabijgelegen Gergeti-gletsjer, wat de wandeling tot een dagvullende activiteit maakt.

On a trip down to San Francisco, I wanted to get a shot of sunrise. I was thinking of heading over to see the Golden Gate Bridge and photograph something in that general area. My girlfriend's cousin let us borrow his Tesla for the drive up to the area. We were playing around with some of the auto drive features and unfortunately missed the exit to get up to the north side of the bridge. Instead, we just pulled off into a small viewpoint and hung out there as we waited for the sun to rise. Fortunately for us, the sunrise was absolutely beautiful and I am very glad that we were able to see it. This image ended up being a bit different from my usual super large stacked panoramas in that this is a single frame. Well, kinda, haha. This is a single image made of about 13 images stacked together to give it a long exposure effect, so no camera movements and thus not a panoramic. Regardless, it was really nice to just sit back and enjoy the scenery and watch the sun rise that morning. I hope you all can enjoy it as well.

The Seabee emblem is from when our daughter was in the Seabee's, the emblems on his hat, one of her Seabee warfare pins that she earned and a patch from her uniform, I treasure them and Rocky loves it.
